Didn't see you at the game. You miss this one?
-
Mike, did you even read my post? I said the check would be payable to the Mean Green Club...but, if you want the Andrew Smith Scholarship instead, I am plenty good with that. My post talked about the possible presentation ceremony, which could be a fun thing, not whom the check is made payable. Go back and take a look-see at the original post. And, I counted nothing...the would was "could it"? The answer is NO! Sorry you missed the point and spirit of the post.

Didn't ask for a apology, don't expect one. But, it might point out why you don't care about Texas history. I could give a rat's rear end about California history and having spent quite a bit of time in California over the last few months, I can honestly say that it is probably the last state I would EVER want to live in...bar none. So, I get it...different strokes for different folks...no jab...just fact. You said it...why be sensitive about it...as you say, you meant it. So...no, not screw you....you are doing that to yourself by moving from the great state of Texas. :-)

Could happen...just needs someone to head it up, organize everyone, raise the funds, etc., etc. Greenjoe might be our guy here...but, like he said...someone needs to step forward ASAP or it will be too late.

12-0 Coach Claims he was Fired for Running up score.
KRAM1 replied to filmerj's topic in Mean Green Football
Much more to the story here. Like others have said....very doubtful the "real" reason is due to his running up the score on anyone. Probably a big ego problem employee not worth the trouble he caused at the school even if he did win games. I've had to "find other career opportunities" for employees in my time that performed quite well, but were pretty much cancers within the organization. Life's too short to put up with these folks and there are way too many alternatives out there to put up with this sort of employee. Have no clue what really went on...just reading between the lines and drawing on a bit of experience...something just says there is way more to this. -
Joe...you heading this up? If so, I'll help anyway I can. And, if so, what's next?

Ever prone to exaggeration or hyperbole? Not questioning that you work with a lot of these wealthy folks at all. There are many many wealthy folk in the DFW area, and maybe a surprise to some here, not all are TCU or SMU grads...and not all, in any way, are SMU and TCU grads wealthy from birth. One will find wealthy families sending kids to lots of different private schools for one reason or another, but also to many public institutions...dare I even say UNT? Stereotyping every student at TCU or SMU as "independently wealthy" is really going a bit far. I know several SMU and TCU grads and have worked with lots during my 40plus career in financial services. Yes, a couple were pretty darn well off from a family standpoint, but the majority were just like the rest of us, and pretty darn nice folks. Even have a couple of TCU grad relatives...hardly "trust babies" or independently wealthy and none had trust funds set up for them at birth. Grew up in Dallas next door to an SMU grad who was a controller for one of the Hunt companies...yep, SMU grad...great guy...1400 square foot house! Hardly a trust fund baby. In working with the Private Wealth Management Group at Citicorp (SmithBarney) at the time, I worked with quite a few extremely rich people...had to have a min. of $25,000,000 net with with at least $5,000,000 liquid before our group could work with you. I think many here might be surprised just how many of those folks in this area WERE NOT SMU or TCU grads compared to a few that were. Each had a different story and a different background. While some certainly fit the "inherited rich" stereotype of privilege, the majority were self-made "rich" starting and building their own businesses or were hardworking business folks who claimed the corporate ladder. One, in fact, was a McDonald lady executive who started as a burger flipper in a local Mickey D's as she had to work to help pay her public university tuition. No trust baby this lady...and not a TCU or SMU grad either. Learned a lot from these people, and was always shocked by the challenges that many had in trying to deal with their wealth. Challenges I had never thought would be there and which I came away happy that I did not have to personally deal with. It really is all about attitude and how one chooses to "see" and react to the world around them. Fun stuff sometimes, right Oldguy, in working with these folks...other times not so much.

The kind of a-hole Charlie Strong inherits from Mack
KRAM1 replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
Big time programs are much like this across the nation. UNT supporters who have not experienced "big time programs" first hand do not realize just how good they have it at UNT regarding access, inside info, relationships, etc., etc. many wish to be "big time" like the Texas program, yet when UNT moves a bit further along that spectrum the wail and cry about their loss of influence, etc. hard to have it both ways. Change is hard, but at these programs donations of a size that gives special perks at UNT get you absolutely ZERO at places like Texas, OU, Alabama, etc., etc. Many fans at such places are required to make much higher donations to get seats on the 10-20 yard lines and "points" and seat locations are re-set annually in some cases. Matters not how long you have held "your seats".... Money matters. But, they win...so, you get what you pay for and you adjust to the changes. UNT fans are going to have to "adjust" as well if they want that "big time" atmosphere. It's not a value judgement here, just facts. As this program grows and develops, changes will occur...not good, not bad, just change and fans will need to accept the changes or move on ... If they want the program to move forward. Change is tough individually at times...heck, they have even written books about it.....Who moved my what? -

Yep...and I predict we see this o-called "a-hole" donate several more millions to the program and fall right in line behind Coach Strong....as long as he creates a winner at Texas. -
LOL....I like the cut of your jib here, Sir!

Could this be win number 10 and PAYDAY? Only the Phantom knows for sure at this point. Everyone needs to remember that the winner personally does not get the $50. The loser is required to make that $50 a donation to the Mean Green Club. So....matters not who wins or loses from a financial standpoint....UNT and the Mean Green Club is the winner here! So close....so close....you think the loser must present the winner the check in a public setting? How about at the GMG.com basketball game in March at halftime? Photos and all? I'm game.....what say you UNT90? Could today be the day? Keeping all fingers and toes crossed here! :-)
-
So, if less than the $5000 Cerebus is gunning for is pledged before the March GMG.Com Basketball game, will all (or any) of those pledging move their pledge to the event and help us raise a bit more cash for a worthy project such as scholarships for UNT students? Just asking as some pledging have supported the event in the past but some others have not, and it's always great to see new supporters involved. Anyone?
-
$390.00 to date...not bad at page 7. Actual pledges: Quoner - $100 Shutter - $100 UNT90 - $50 MDH -$50 StanR -$50 3XL - $40 Anyone talking to anyone yet that can actually approve this redo when the funds are available? Who might that be anyway?...the person to chat with?
-
Yes, Richard, I guess so...but the point is trying to get some new folks to the game who might not be donors to the MGC or at the level required. You know, there is not a time when something doesn't conflict with something else on the UNT campus. There might even be an Oboe Recital around campus at the same time. Really sorry if the efforts we make in support of UNT conflict with something from time to time. It's all good and all support UNT. Bringing more folks to the table that is UNT is not bad...at least in my opinion. In this case...our event will be free...including the refreshments. Just trying to show a bit of support for the ladies. Would love to have you come by for the event. Also...worked with the athletic dept. In trying to coordinate and include both, but the logistics just didn't work. Hope to see you at the event...bring a friend or two...how about that friend of yours I met Thursday in the Mean Green Room before the So Miss game. See you tomorrow before the Tulane game. Remind me, and I'll tell you the "rest of the story" here. Ha! If you don't know it, I can assure you your post has several people laughing right now. Beat Tulane!

Said the guy that has already posted that as soon as his personal situation is settled is planing a move back to California. See B above...so were at least 75% of the other courses you took. Should accounting just be moved to trade school status? Doubtful. I do not recall Texas History being "required" at UNT for either of my UNT degrees although I took a really great Texas History course at UNT under a wonderful professor named Dr. Stephens who was later Mayor of Denton. Great prof, and to this day I recall the final exam he gave in that course. I do believe that Texas History is required in 7th grade in Texas Public Schools and I am glad it is still required. Now, there were several courses I was required to take in HS and in college that to this day I feel were no where near necessary...perhaps this is how most feel about certain classes throughout their educational lives.

You do know how much that is, right? And to think you would bet me only $50 on 10 wins when I started at $5,000 and here you go and pledge $1,000,000 + on a Scrappy re-do. You win the Mega State Lottery recently? Want to up our bet big spender? :-)
