  1. OK, I just talked to the guy that does the float for the Alumni Association for homecoming. He can set the float up as we wish based on the Alumni set up with the SOW or Bowl Champion logos, etc., deliver the float to the parade stagging area and pick it up after the parade. The cost is about $1000.00...the same as it costs the Alumni Association each year for the same float set-up, etc. He must know if we want to use his firm no later than January 31st...at the VERY latest as he has several floats in that parade already and several other parades that same day...so, time is of the essence here folks. So, in my opinion we are at a DECISION TIME.. 1) Do we do this? 2) Do we use this firm to produce and deliver the float? 3) Do we build and transport our own float? 4) Where is the money coming from? At this point it looks like a minimum of $1500 to make this happen...and that does not include the costs of trinkets we might want to hand out, etc., etc./ or any other minor expenses. 5) Has anyone checked into insurance? Liability in case of accident to others or float participants? The threat of suit is real and we would be just a group of volunteers not shielded by any state statutes that might govern state agencies in this sort of thing. 6) Who rides? Football players...would need to be our outgoing senior class I would imagine to avoid any possible booster/player contact problems...if we use players who are still students a request form must be completed and submitted through the athletic dept's compliance office....I have a blank copy of that form 7) HOD Trophy maybe? Who contacts the athletic dept. to see if that is possible? 8) Scrappy...Cheer Squad members? Are they available due to the date and possible tournament conflict? Need to check ASAP 9) Parade application...when is the submission deadline? 10) How do we pull the float? Borrowed Van from a local dealership for PR purposes? A volunteer vehicle (I think Silver Eage has volunteered his PU), the Mean Green tailgatin' Machine bus (can it handle that trip and pull job...at what costs?)? Lots to do...like I said DECISION TIME! Several folks have said they will help with financial support...and volunter work...can we pull this off? Greenjoe is our leader...I think I have got the prelims down, just need to decide which way to go. Time it is a wastin' here folks!
  2. This is absolutely 100% true. Anyone thinking that just selling beer at Apogee is going to be the "magic pill" to get attendance to see a major spike upwards is kidding themselves. But, as I have stated before, I am 100% behind beer sales at Apogee. And, a 500 person increase is 500 more than we had if that turns out to be the case relating to beer sales.
  3. I think my wife would divorce me if I followed the pattern of Andrew's church group leader. LOL! Come on real men watch Duck Dynasty! Seriously, this time, Andrew, I do think you are stretching it just a tad. But, I do like the cut of your sail. Hang in there. Edit: What? What? W H A T? Someone doesn't like Duck Dynasty? How can that be? Is the sky falling?
  4. It's like shooting at someone with an empty gun...way way to easy...in fact, so easy they don't even have a clue that they are being manipulated...kids these days...what ya gonna do....buy 'em books, send 'em to school, but still they have no clue...but, heck, it's OK, just kids. Kids, what ya gonna do...I guess, just hope that maturity takes hold sometime down the road. It is just way way too easy. Just give 'em all a ribbon, pat 'em on their backside and tell 'em how cute they are...'bout all you can do.
  5. If it goes as it has lately....you can be certain to go home a happy camper!
  6. This is way too easy. Kids these days...what you gonna do...way way too easy.
  7. I think you hit on why some folks like the show...very immature.
  8. Good news! Just got the word that Miller of Denton is going to be donating some "adult beverages" for our event. Really appreciate the help from the good folks at Miller Beer! Also...just heard from Coach Peterson at the radio show tonight that one of the coaches will be available at noon...so get here on time....to provide us a scouting report. So, double good news. Going to be fun...hot dogs, chips, popcorn, sodas and "adult beverages"... And UNT basketball! What's not to like? Event is free and open to one and all. Come by before Saturday's game and enjoy some Mean Green fun!
  9. No question period tonight...it starts at 6:30 PM this year. Very few non-UNT staffers in attendance and no players tonight...women were getting ready to practice and the men's guest was Coach Monarch. I was glad I went, but it was a rather subdued show with so few fans in attendance. Crowds bring electricity, not much electricity in the audience tonight. Both Coach Benford and Coach Peterson seemed pretty darn serious and were not joking around much...before, during or after the show. Got to ask a few questions and learn a few things in discussions after the show. That's good, but if there were a bigger crowd probably would not have had the chance. Great story by Coach Peterson about one of his ex-players who spoke to the team before a recent game. Like I said, glad I went, but hope to see a few more folks in attendance next Monday.
  10. Ha...funny...it has been for at least a year! LOL PM me if you would like his email address!
  11. What? Signed to play for UNT under Coach Benford? How can that be? Too easy. Just having some fun...don't go ape crazy here folks.
  12. I guess you have never attended...players usually in attendance and on the show each week. Don't know about tonight as it is the first, but...in this case...your info is incorrect. Usually both a female and a male player attend and are part of the show. Several other players often there in support as well.
  13. I got a call today from one of the owners of Denton's INDEPENDENT ALE WORKS...you might recall they were one of the folks participating in this year's OKTOBERFEST Event sponsored by the Denton Chapter of the UNT Alumni Association. He wanted to invite me and all alumni and friends of UNT (and good craft beer of course) to come to the GRAND OPENING of INDEPENDENT ALE WORKS Tasting Room on SATURDAY, January 25th. Event kicks off at NOON that Saturday and runs all day until 8:00PM. I was told there would be some great ales and beers (5-6 varieties) to sample in the newly opened tasting room along with live music and lots of other fun! Independent Ale Works is located at 11555 US Hwy 380 West (3209) in Krum, Texas. Well, Krum is the post office for the location! :-) Might have a bit more info in a day or two, but this should be great fun. The owners are great guys and big time beer lovers. David Miller and Stefen Windham own Independent Ale Works and would love to see a big crowd at their GRAND OPENING event on the 25th! Just like Bobby Mullins and Yianni Arestis of Armadillo Ale Works, another couple of great local guys, who have supported our Alumni events, Independent Ale has as well. Come on out and enjoy the fun and help Denton become a craft beer destination! See you there!
  14. Just a head's up folks...the date of the parade (March 15th) is at the tail end of the CUSA basketball tournament in El Paso. Not, at all, indicating that the Mean Green might make it that far...yet the slim possibility exists. But, either way, many of the Athletic folks, Cheer Squad members, Alumni staff and folks from all across the campus such as Student Affairs will be working on the tournament stuff and the tournament logistics the weeks and days leading up to the tournament and many will actually be directly involved and traveling to and from the tournament. In no way would this stop this project from taking place, but it is a factor when one is thinking of utilizing some of these resources. Just means Greenjoe will have to do a bit more coordinating and we will need additional volunteers. Shouldn't be a problem. This could turn out to be a really great Mean Green annual event!
  15. That was a short climb up and a pretty quick fall back to reality it seems. Edit: Was what I posted not correct? Check the standings and the W/L record over the time since the thread started.... This team is in danger of missing the playoffs...AGAIN. Support the Stars all you like, they are my NHL team as well, but get a grip on reality folks. The team is not going anywhere...THIS SEASON.
  16. But, we are all supporting the players still, right?
  17. GoMeanGreen.Com reflects that this is your 100th birthday! Wow...you seem mighty spry for a 100 year old lady! :-) Have a great day...Happy Birthday and thanks for being a member of the great Mean Green Nation!
  18. Greenjoe...call me. I have the info on the float we discussed Sunday. It is a possibility and costs do not seem out of line. With the pledges of support here, should be doable. We need to chat. Call me.
  19. Bump...need folks to come out and support the ladies. Start with the tailgate...should be fun. Will be more fun with more folks attending.
  20. Surprised you even tried to understand the message. As Green Mean said..."there are douches" everywhere. Neither SMU nor TCU have a corner on that market. Some of the comments here regarding both SMU and TCU smack of pure jealousy and/or insecurity on the part of the poster. Can I get an Amen?
  21. Give her a call. Nice lady!
  22. Hmmmmmm...not helping much to date it seems.
