  1. Yes...just completing a $200,000,000 capital campaign successfully when a couple of multi-million dollar pledges get completed. Dr. Montecino and President Smatresk spoke to this issue just today during the UNT Alumni Association quarterly board meeting. Several large donations have come in and/or are being completed currently. Dr. Monticino who heads up Advancement mentioned no challenges completing the drive due to any of these issues. In fact, he spoke optimistically about exceeding the goal in the next few days. The bad news, yes, some future donors might have second thoughts due to the current financial situation. However, the good news is the "irregularities" are of the "accounting" nature...not of the theft or fraud nature. Bad news, indeed, but not the kind that would "scare off" most donors capable of giving in the six figure plus range. Most folks are giving for a purpose, a scholarship, a program, etc. and not just to the university. This is not a problem that will cause any real long-term damage....just some relatively short-term belt tightening in some areas, and some changes to the way things are done moving forward. A black eye? Sure. Any lasting long-term damage? None, unless the issues continue. That will not happen.
  2. How's that "we'll just sit down and talk to them" bravado working out for Obama these days?
  3. The Ukraine is not currently a NATO member. Think some folks referred to the Ukraine as a member of NATO...do not believe they are at this point.
  4. Folks...come out and enjoy the Happy Hour if you can. We need to show our sponsors that folks from UNT WILL show up for events they sponsor if we want the community to really get on board the UNT bandwagon. We hope to do this "First Tuesday" thing every month. We realize the first one will be a learning experience. I just hope part of the experience learned is that our local alumni will turn out and show up for these type of events. Ok...full confession, and in case you attend and notice...I will be out of town this time and cannot attend. I know it happens, and bummer that it fell at the wrong time, but it is going to be a nice regular event for UNT Alums and friends. Please Mark it down and try to stop by...even for a short stay....if you possibly can. Let us know you like these type events and would like to see them continue...could definitely develop into some nice networking opportunities as well as just some good Mean Green fun! Come on down!
  5. You are on! I'll double your coaching pay as well! You earned it!
  6. Nice one! Love it! Already have my Spring a Game tickets in hand! Hope to attend the HOF luncheon as well. Thanks, Eddie. Go Mean Green!
  7. Thanks for the kind words folks...and let me revise the total... Picked up a couple of new dobnations today...make that total $2770.00 for the Cheer Squad! Thanks again to all who helped make this happen!
  8. I'll double the pay you got this year if you volunteer to coach again next year!
  9. Around $1500 as I recall.
  10. Ok, preliminary results are in....and it appears that a new record was set at this year's event! Assuming that I do collect the final few silent auction winning bids, it appears the event will have raised $2500 +- a few! That is fantastic for this little event. Our sponsors, players, silent auction bidders, volunteers, spectators really turned out this year to make this a record. Cannot say enough in the way of thanks to all who helped. It means a great deal to our Cheer Squad to know they are appreciated and supported! Thanks folks...thanks so much! wow...$2500....who would have thought that when we started this event just four years ago?
  11. Appreciate you being there....it was a fun event. If all those lay ups that were missed would have fallen we might have seen triple digits!
  12. So JJ isn't an experienced coach as well?
  13. Excellent...you just answered the question....it was an off the wall nonsense post based in absolutely zero reality. You got called on it and now you just want to take your ball and go home. Good. Maybe you will think a bit more before posting such ridiculously inane garbage about UNT.
  14. So then name one employer who has mentioned that UNT is weird. You know, a top official whose opinion means something having mentioned in some way that UNT is weird and that might be a problem. Your post indicated it might be a problem with employers...don't try to squeeze out now since someone asked you for some proof of that nonsense of a comment. It was posted as a potential problem with employees. Just asking you to either put up or stop the nonsense. Having been in the world of employment over forty years and having been associated with many different business leaders, I have NEVER heard one bad mouth UNT for the quality of its programs or graduates. Nor has anyone mentioned any sort of "weirdness". I'll wait for your substantial proof should you have any. I am fully prepared to contact each and every employer you mention to discuss this with them in order that this so-called "weirdness" might not impact our graduates at their place of business. You would be more than welcome to accompany me on said visit should you wish. And...cooler talk is not "employer talk". You said "employers". Had you said "cooler talk"....great...probably agree with you there. So, employers or simply cooler talk? Big difference, yes?
  15. Hey, GreenMachine...did you see my earlier reply and request for some info on your comment regarding employers? Would appreciate a reply. That sort of comment is pretty telling, so we need to get to those employers, invite them to campus and clear that total misconception up. So, unless it was just nonsense, please provide the data to back up that comment with names and experience. Thanks so much. I promise you the Alumni Association folks will contact each and every employer who you mention that hold that "weirdness" you mention against our graduates in any way. Appreciate it.
  16. I did not give you the -1, but please explain this comment with examples of employers who have stated that this is a problem or employers you have poof of turning folks down for positions based on this assumed "weirdness". As an Alumni Association we will want to reach out to these employers and discuss why they may prejudice our grads in such a way. Thanks.

    KRAM And UNT90

THE BET! Concluding the "bet". UNT90 makes good on the bet while KRAM1 matches it for the Cheer Squad!
  18. So, the green team pulled away a bit in the second half to edge the white team in this the 4th year of the GMG.Com BB Classic! And what a fun day it was...we had two great honorary coaches in Vertrail Vaughn's for the green team and Hannah Christian for the white. Stepping in to do a "most interesting job" as our third referee was Brandan Walton. Also joint us as referees were Ex-UNT footballer Troy Kokjohn and ex-Cheer Squad member Matt Sherman. Thanks go also to our athletic department student managers and all the help they gave with the scoreboard, set-up, equipment, clock, etc. Our two coaches, UNT90 for the victorious green team and Andrew for the hard charging white team both did a fine job and I think a good time was had by all. And, what a nice turnout of fans and supporters this year! Wow...really appreciate everyone who came out to help support this game and out great Cheer Squad! Really nice to see the large group who made it to the back room at Rudy's for the after event beer and BBQ. Largest crowd I think we have had in our four years. So, thanks again to each and everyone who sponsored the event, played, volunteered, came to support the event and bid on some great silent auction items and to those who came to the after game party. I think we may have raised a record dollar total for the Cheer Squad as well....after I do the accounting and collect for the final few silent auction items, I'll post how the event did...dollar-wise in this thread. To those who helped make this happen....I cannot thank you enough. So, finally, let me again say a big thank you to our sponsors: Cross Timbers Equipment Company, Kokjohn Long Snapping, Addison Transportation, Rudy's BBQ and M Ben Designs! 20. Definitely agree...the Stockyards setting is just tough...parking and otherwise. The newly re-done Sundance Square area is great and seems like it would make a good location for the event. Yes, good thought.
  21. Just different strokes for different folks. You see as a UNT grad, I do believe part of my job is to "pay it forward" and help UNT wherever, however, and whenever I can. You mentioned going and taking a couple of friends with you....looks like you actually see it pretty much the same way. Sorry you don't understand that mindset, but like I said...different strokes for different folks. Not better, not worse...just different. If ones lives in FT Worth...it certainly does not mean taking a day or half day off work to drive to Denton. I commuted to work from Denton to Tarrant County for close to 14 years...and commuted from Denton to Cedar Hill for about two years before that. Never took a half-days work to get from Denton to either place and each trip was right smack in the middle of "drive time". But, maybe you don't have a traditional 8-5 schedule. If that's the case, even a FT Worth stop could be tough. Anyway...make your voice heard that you would like to see FT Worth get a stop again next year. Here's betting that stops in FT Worth will return soon enough. I do hope they will.
