The only time I am out of "thirst" is when my frig empty of beer. And that, my friend, is a very very rare day!

Congrats! Go Mean Green!

Very sorry to see this. I hope and pray that God grants Coach Mac and his family peace and comfort in remembering all the good times!

Oh, darn....got me with that one...I admit it...I must have missed that ONE really pointed question in my multiple years of attendance at both the BB and FB shows. I guess one such question every three or four years signifies folks are really queuing up with those hot sports questions. So, one "non-answer" scares off everyone from pelting these folks with pointed questions? Wow...must have learned surrender techniques from the French Army. Either that or that one non-answer was really really scary. Come on...tough guys... Hang in there...keep asking until you get the answer you want. It would definitely spice up the shows and up the attendance and radio ratings. Could you enlighten the uninformed as to just what his "non-answer" might have been? Or, was it just not the answer you were looking for at the time? I don't know as I missed it. May have been out if town or in the men's room for that one. Like everyone I am interested in this 6-game schedule thingy. Yes...we all know you live a few counties away. Understand, but you have said countless and countless times that you don't care. Why are you not caring so much as to post numerous times each day?

Thanks for the recommendation and the back-up from CMJ. I will have to check this one out soon. I did see Unbroken over the holidays and enjoyed it, but must admit, the prison camp scenes were pretty much standard WWII Japanese prisoner of war camp fare including the sadistic camp commander and guards. No real creativity from Jolie at all here, and the life raft scenes went on and on and on...also not much creativity...only last comment "I've got good news and bad news" sort of thing added anything in the way of memorable lines. I had read the story in magazines and read the book, so it is definitely an inspiring story, but as far as a fantastic and epic movie depicting this great American hero...well, not so much. But, the thing I thought was great was that Jolie was able to form a bond of friendship with Zamperini (sorry, probably messed up the spelling here) and was able to utilize him as an expert on the film. That, and the fact that he was able to see this project come to fruition before he passed away. To me...that is the greatness of this project.

And yet your parents had the grace and compassion to send you and your brother to UNT. See, just another reason to acknowledge what great parents you guys have! I know...they are great people. Trust me on that.

How so...you can always send the question in through Facebook? Well, yes, I guess that could be censored. But, even with the football shows, no one ever asks questions folks who do not care to show up suggests "others" ask for them. Even when some of the more vocal folks did attend, they never stepped up to the mike to ask any pointed questions. Much easier to just "suggest" here that others do it for them than actually having the "you know whats to do it themselves". Agree with you that the folks who might (and that's a really big might) ask such questions are unlikely to attend. Follows the usual pattern. I really do wish some of these folks would come and ask the questions in person that seem to bother them so much. It might be enlightening to them, to the coach and to others in attendance. It is an open mike so their questions cannot be censored ahead of time. And, hopefully, they would ask it with the same zeal they seem to post such with here on GMG.Com. Open mike folks, step right up. We'll be looking for you on the 12th. Would make for a great show. Might even help ratings.

Interesting....I do not recall ever seeing five of the six prior posters in attendance when the shows started at 6pm or 7pm. Didn't we already have a thread dedicated to this change? Could...could...the change in any way be related to when the stations were available to carry the show or what and when sponsors wanted the show to air? You all know attendance was not great last season, so perhaps they are trying something new....like the Alumni's Young Professional Noon luncheons in Dallas that drew large crowds. Large enough that the AD said we drew more than the evening coaches caravan in Dallas and that he might try a noon Caravan schedule. Attendees were not "retirees" as well, but rather young (and not so young) business professionals. Perhaps it is a look-see at deciding if noon works. TWU holds their quarterly athletic events at noon in Denton as well, and they are well attended...I have attended a couple. They are held at Outback in Denton. Could it be that the coaches requested this move to better fit their coaching and recruiting schedules and the schedules of the student-athletes who often come to be part of the program. Could it be that Rudy's asked to try this to see if it helps with their lunch business? Rudy's has been a great partner for UNT with the BB and FB shows...just maybe they asked for a favor. I don't know. But, the possibility exists as much as any of the possibilities suggested. You know, in business it is a truism that you need to change and try new things to be successful. Maybe UNT is just trying something different. Anyway...whatever the reason I will miss a couple of the "regulars" who drove up from Carrollton and Lewisville for the shows each week. I feel bad for them, and will keep their seats warm until they can get back for a show. It will be interesting to see after three or four weeks if this time slot catches any traction. If it does great...if not..lOK...maybe it can be moved back to a later time or another day.

Pres. Smaestrek has done a very nice job of getting his hands around the financial mess, and that has pretty much consumed his first year and put him back a bit on the projects he really wanted to work on in his first year. In addition to the facts that NorthTexan95 pointed out...which are BIG and very significant...he has been hiring some very important people in high level positions. This would include the search for our new Vice President for Development...in my opinion pretty much the second most important and critical position on the UNT campus. Second only to the president. In addition, he has initiated the first university and community generated plan for the next several years going forward. By involving the local community and its leaders for the first time in University history he has demonstrated the willingness to work with the Denton community instead of against it as many of our past presidents have done. If folks who have actually attended sporting and academic and community events this year have noticed...the guy is everywhere building relationships across the campus, within the student population, within the Alumni population and within the community. This is BIG and done during a period of financial crisis of which he had no clue was looming prior to setting foot on campus. Oh, and did I mention he was a catalyst in moving forward with the sale of beer at Apogee and the Super Pit? Hey, that's a biggie right there! :-) To say anything other than he has accomplished a great deal in his first year is to simply not be aware of what's actually happening across the university. If what he has accomplished in the first year is any indication of what the future holds, I would say that the future looks very bright indeed for UNT under his leadership and direction.

In the vast majority of cases it is not the school or degree holding people back, but rather their personal choices and attitudes. Are you willing to move to a location where the job opportunity exists, have you majored in a field with job opportunities that are available, did you put in the time and effort to network, did you choose to study or party, did you work with the university career placement folks, did you apply for and obtain an internship....even an unpaid one, are you willing to accept an entry level position paying a tad less than you would prefer? Would you accept mentoring and actually fully participate? Are you willing to work when your buddies are off and partying? Are you willing to work the grave yard shift or holidays? Have you worked at all during college....actually, this can help a great deal with some employers. I do a good bit of career counseling and have throughout my working career. I find a good many recent grads are just not willing or interested in making the difficult choices often required of them....and some of the choices are very difficult. I know from personal experience. Now, all that being said...one can make it work. Ask around in some of your older more established family and friendship circles...how many are actually working in their degree field? You might be surprised. Talk to these folks openly about the career path they took and how long and how they became successful. Most are not overnight successes and most have made several "career" changes and adjustments along the way before they became successful and happy in their careers. Don't fret...just keep your eye on the prize. Do not compare yourself with your peers' positions or salaries...it isn't a race! And always remember...the happiest people in the world are the ones who have figured out "how much is enough". Now...go out there...make those tough decisions and be the success you worked to be and that UNT helped give you the start to be...

Interesting. I have sent several such emails...each one being responded to directly by the Prez...never once were they responded to by RV. Also...email sent to RV is responded to by him or by phone or in person at the Super Pit, Apogee or some UNT event where we both happen to be present. Not saying in any that way this redirection is incorrect, just saying my experience has been totally different. And, I know such re-direction happens quite often in the corporate world. It's often done for the sake of a quicker response and to direct the email to the person ultimately responsible for that area of operation. Not saying it is right or wrong...just that it is done.

Good one...plus one for you, Sir! Ha!

Yep, I expect more from a lot of people on this board too, but that's pure dreaming. And, way to take the gun thing way out of context. Only on GMG.Com. Sigh! I think all has been said here that should be. But I will definitely keep the attempts at humor at the level even the cool kids can understand. Or, maybe one of the cool kids anyway who loves to troll my posts for some odd reason.

Well...had to get it on a level he could understand. He loves to troll my posts, but doesn't care for the results. All he needs to do is play with the cool kids. They love him. I never post in his direction unless he trolls mine and gets involved in stuff in which he has no clue. Easy for him.. Just put me on ignore and stick with the cool kids.
-
You know...that's pretty cool..really...and on company time too... But, as always you are clueless as to my intentions, motives, humor, etc. as is evidenced here. You need to get up a lot earlier and try playing with a loaded gun or even know anything about the person you are trying to dusparage if you want to really get a gig in that works. So, maybe you should just stick to the cool kid graphics. They seem to work better for you. The cool kids will get it...different strokes I guess, but you get points for artsy in that post. If you ever figure it out I'll let you know. But, here's one thing that is pretty certain...while UNT 90 will show up, coach, play and donate to the benefit BB game for the cheer squad. You will be nowhere to be seen. That is if past history repeats. Cool kids are just too cool to support such events. But, carry on... Your routine works well with the preteen set.

Ahhhh. Out comes the peanut gallery to spoil the fun. I guess only the kids are allowed to have any fun on GMG these days...maybe you have a cool graphic you can display. The cool kids love that. I was pulling UNT90's chain about his coaching credentials....he knows I was and gets it....oh well, leave it to the peanut gallery. Hey don't you work? Having a lunchbreak in the light perhaps or just skipping the work part?
-
I know....I know...I have the records. Just having some fun with the facts like others do here so often. Was sort of hoping you had forgotten due to your dementia! Darn it...you actually remembered. You do realize you are coaching again this year, right? Game will be in March. As soon as I firm up the date I'll let you know so you can get it on your social calendar. Darn you for remembering!!
-
Just as an aside...UNT90's team in the last GMG.Com BB Classic in which he was the coach.....LOST! Just sayin...... He lost to a team coached by Andrew. Classic, huh? Wondering if the irony is lost on anyone? If so, surely the humor isn't. :-)

And, a good opinion at that.
-
And, yet, you find the interest to post in every BB thread that develops. Would hate to see how many posts you would throw out if you were actually interested...or, is it that you are just interested in letting folks know, for the umpteenth time, that you aren't interested? Sorry...the opening was just to good to pass up! :-)
-
This...well stated. Very solid observations.
-
Yep...he nailed it squarely on the head! Interesting thoughts about the AAU system. Something the BB folks at all levels need to consider.
-
Did you or the Infidel come up with that "Shanice Peterson" moniker? You both used it within about an hour of each other.
