2100+ The players deserved better...especially from their fellow students. Pitiful turnout from the students last night. Here's hoping that the game Saturday against Middle Tennessee will draw a better and more enthusiastic crowd. But...there is that valentine's Day thing going Saturday as well.

Everyone is certainly welcome to join in the chat room to "discuss" the draft and comment on players, etc. Should not take more than a hour at best...depending upon, of course, how much homework our two coaches have done in the player specific thread.

MGB: UNT moving women's regular season finale to TWU
KRAM1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Don't test me on that! Ha! And, if only more folks shared your sentiments regarding these student-athletes. Nice to say such things....not many show up to support these athletes. The University does value them highly, it's the fans who don't seem to care. Hard to show that they are appreciated and one recognizes their hard work when no one shows up in person. Trust me, they really don't feel that "support from afar" thing. -

Agree...my point was about the historical...and current....culture that must change if we want to be like the "other" schools folks here love to point to and who do not operate under that same historical malaise that UNT does to this day. But, let us pose this question....would this ever even come up if UNT games saw large crowds historically for its home games or if, back in the day, support was such that the Athletic Dept had the funds...or could raise them...to build that arena and thus control the scheduling? I think not. if anyone thinks that silos no longer exist at UNT and that the right hand doesn't always coordinate with the left hand need look no further than this example. Dr. Smatresk has stated on many occasions that it is his goal to destroy this silo mentality. Won't happen overnight, but it will happen...and the work has already begun. -

Whoa...you think a women's basketball game...one...would bring in a million dollars? Just kidding. You been to a women's game this year? I would imagine that the athletic dept loses money at each women's home game after paying for the arena rent, security, etc., etc. If that clinic netted $1000 it would be a net gain over the BB game! Ha! But, this cheer clinic does bring in a nice piece of change, but why oh why must it be scheduled against a home game? Just silly....well, more than silly...dumb! -
MGB: UNT moving women's regular season finale to TWU
KRAM1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
This whole situation was set up years and years ago when the Super Pit was first planned. The athletic dept. Did not have the funds to build the arena....same lack of support problems faced today in many cases...so the arena's "ownership" was given to the University. Thus control and scheduling were no longer under the athletic dept. The teams, both men and women, have been displaced many times over the years for any number of reasons. Practices have been a problem to schedule...and, at times, still are, but we now have the BB practice facility thanks to several generous donors. The old snake pit has been used in the past, but as Flyonthewall mentioned, it can longer be used for games due to conference requirements. Plus, as I believe, Westie, pointed out, the Cheer Competition will also utilize the Snake Pit. This is a big revenue generator for the University and, for Denton itself in some ways, but it really sucks to have to move a UNT home game to TWU. I am just glad our friends at TWU were generous enough to help us out...for a price I am sure. Just another reason I smile when folks on here scream about how "other schools" can do this and that and how other schools are so much better in so many different ways and how folks proudly announce they will no longer be Mean Green Club members, will lower their contributions, will support the players from afar, will not come to games, will not buy season tickets, etc. While these folks seem very happy to let "other people do it", the historical and current results of such a philosophy continue to rear its ugly head in numerous ways. UNT continues to suffer from its historical (and in many ways current) apathetic fan base. Is it the fans fault entirely? ABSOLUTELY NOT, and in many many ways, UNT and its leadership has shot itself squarely in its own foot on numerous occasions. So, a good bit of fan apathy is 100% understandable. But, what is not clear is why those who claim to support UNT do not understand that to change that culture of apathy they cannot do it from afar. UNT is not "other schools", and will not be until it and it's fan base and the community look squarely into the mirror and see exactly who is holding it back. But, look at the bright side here...for those fans who will attend this "away" home game, they will get to have some fun heading across town, finding a place to park and checking out TWU's home digs. If you have not seen it before you will enjoy a different view of the game. But, where will they put all the Little Dribblers? -
Great...got him down and for a large. Many thanks.

Oh, no....you are already set to referee. We need some "muscle" out on that court in our referees. At 6'4" there won't be many messin' With the refs! :-). Besides the black refs tee will make you look even more intimidating.
-
A couple of new players have been added to the list recently bringing our count to 17..... I know of at least one more players sitting out there pondering to play or not which would bring us to 18 for 9 a side. We could still use a few more players...it is not too late to sign up. Remember...we still need a couple of volunteer referees if anyone is interested....male or female....no problem...just need to want to help and all is good.
-
We have two new players to add... Gene and Rob McKinney. Welcome aboard guys...really appreciate your help in making this a successful fund-raising event for some great student-athletes. I have added both to the draft list in the players thread!

Nope never said that at all. Not unusual for you to completely misunderstand. Never ever said or even indicated that. Your obvious bias and trolling of everything I say is getting in the way. Not surprised.

Sure...let's compare rape with some guy with a personal vendetta against an AD. That probably works for some shallow thinkers and folks with their own agendas, but won't get too far with me. I repeat....it is not the purpose of an Alumni Associate to attempt to discredit the university and alumni which it serves. Speaking out against rapists and such is not attempting to discredit ones university. Using the Alumni Association as one's bully pulpit to forward a personal agenda is. Thought even you might be able to discern that difference. Because it is not the place does not mean it has never happened. Glad some folks here understand that difference. Our own Alumni Association has, in the past, had some serious differences with the University itself. At no time did the Assiciation attempt to discredit the University or any University personnel publicly. It was handled professionally as it should have been with a successful conclusion for all concerned. Since you may not have even realized it points to the professionalism with which it was handled. But, sadly, some don't understand that actions have consequences that sometimes are not those expected or intended. I remind everyone here who happen to be members of the UNT Alumni Association that they are more than welcome to place their names in nomination for a board position. We can always use new people willing to actually work and donate time and treasure toward the betterment of UNT. But, also know that your Alumni Board is not a bully pulpit for ones personal vendettas.

Was not aware that jerry Sandusky was in any way associated with UNT. But, I would think you are correct. It is not the place of any Alumni Association to publicy try to discredit their University in any manner. I am still wondering if the FIU Alumni Association endorsed that letter. I highly doubt it, but I guess anything is possible. Also wonder if the Alumni Association at FIU is a separate 501©(3) Corporation or a part of the FIU official university itself? Lots of questions that when/if answered might shed a bit of light on this one person's crusade at FIU and how it might go in the long run. But, from the results of my first post on the matter, I am sure some folks will not understand nor appreciate reasoned thought.

Now, if that were to happen, an Exorcism would definitely be in order to shed myself of the Devils within. But, they would have no chance....negative Devils have no chance to infiltrate the KRAM-ster! The Mean Green spirit gods will protect me.

UNT's schedule is out... We will not rest

Interesting comments. After reading the full letter...note it was not on any official letterhead....and the site comments all I could think about was how did UNT90 get to become FIU's Alumni President? One must remember that the letter writer is a volunteer and is asking the full Alumni Board to support a personal opinion and position. Granted some other board members might share that view, but it is nothing more than an ask. Do we know if the Alumni Board actually endorsed the letter and sent it on under official letterhead and signature? If so, that would be pretty dramatic for an Alumni Association. Some on the FIU site indicate this sort of position is common for the proposal writer, is supported by some and not supported by others. Some even indicate the position writer has pledged funds that he has not delivered to FIU. While that may or may not be an indication of anything, I would want my pledges to be in order if I were to lead some charge claiming someone had not done what they said they would do. I think it would be most interesting to find out if the Alumni Board endorsed this position, approved the resolution and sent it forward. Perhaps Harry could back channel this and find out. But, all I could think while reading through this whole thing was that somehow UNT90 had left the area and transferred to FIU. If not, the FIU guy and UNT90 are definitely soul mates.....or twins! Edit: As usual, I see, a reasonable response is frowned upon. Plus...the UNT90 reference is just plain funny. You folks are sad.....no sense of humor at all. Carry on.....

Close, but no cigar .... Blink blink...that light can get crazy, huh? Didn't mis-read anything....just flat missed the first post. Pretty obvious, and note I was't incorrectly discussing anyone's position which, of course, would be a comprehension issue. My error, was in completely blowing by the first statement...yes, my mistake. So happy for you. But, interestingly, the award was said to be $10,000 for the low round...three golfers tied for the low round. So how did UNT get $7500 in a three-way tie for a $10,000 pot? My source on the amount was the Dallas Morning News and the Golf Tournament announcers live, so not sure how UNT gets $7500 if that were true...maybe you can find that the prize was actually $22,500 or something like that. Don't know. Don't care enough to figure it out, just happy Ortiz did well and UNT gets a payday too.
