Let me guess...all those unhappy about Abbott would be praising the choice had it been Clinton, yes? Just college folks being college folks. This too shall pass. Long term is "tomorrow night's party" for a lot of these folks. They can't see further than the end of their nose and have no clue, nor do they care, of the potential benefits for UNT from having the sitting Gov on campus. My son's Academy had Obama as a graduation speaker. You think the Midshipmen were happy about that? Not one little bit, but he came and they showed the respect they should for a sitting President. A side note...O came after my son graduated, so thankfully I did not have to sit through the Obama thing. But, I darn sure would have and been plenty respectful as well of the Ofice of the President. Graduation is not about the Commencement speaker. The speech and speaker together is nothing more than part of the show...not the focus. The focus is on, or should be, those who are graduating, who have sacrificed to earn their degrees, their parents and friends who have provided support along their journey, and all the faculty and staff who have helped them accomplish their graduation dream.

Increased my Mean Green Club donation amount as well, and have already renewed my season tickets. And, I have been to more spring practices and scrimmages than I ever have before....and I do not enjoy watching practices! I just don't get the need to watch practice, but what does intrigue me is all the folks who have blasted "closed practices" on this board in the past and extolled the virtues of attending practices, yet when Mac opens up to practices to all comers, they don't show up! Only at North Texas I guess. Where "supporting our athletes from afar" is par for the course and "letting someone else do it" while complaining on high about everything UNT is the tradition. It's not fan apathy folks...it's tradition!
-
That ever so UNT fan popular "supporting the athletes from afar" thing, huh? So very UNT. How about attending a few games? Who said anything about every game? I thought fans enjoyed actually attending games and planned ways to attend, not find excuses why not to attend. Just not at UNT where all the rage is showing support by never showing up, right? Only at North Texas. Yep...I'm talking about the DFW and Denton area fans here...not the out-of-staters where attending is pretty darn challenging. But, I do know of two out-of-state fans who attend more home UNT games than many local DFW so-called fans do. You know, only at North Texas. In fact there were more Arkansas fans in the soccer stands Saturday than there were UNT fans. That's just a tad disappointing, but so UNT these days.

And we all know eyes don't lie. Just ask all the folks sent to prison because of "eye witness" testimony who were subsequently released. They are big on this "the eyes I used" thing. Some here even saw Dajon play and think their eyes saw a player who should now be starting in the QB spot. Yep...the "eyes" have it!

In fact, that's the line many professional head hunters use to seek out candidates. Might as well use in in athletics. Works in the business world.

Nope....but I'll buy your game ticket.

Where did you get this info? The President usually speaks at one or two graduations a year, the Secty of State has spoken, most State Gov's speak every year, Condi Rice spoke, Senators speak, etc., etc. very common to have politicians speak...and at Tier One Universities as well. But, one thing most here are missing...the commencement address is optional as I understand it and will be given at the joint "graduation" ceremony. Many Colleges within the University will hold their own graduation events where diplomas are given. Don't like the speaker...don't go. No biggie in my book. This is a lot of hot air about not much of anything. Getting the Gov on campus is a big plus for the University and its march toward Tier One status. Students are just being students. They will hit the "real world" soon enough. Give them this last college hurrah. No biggie. Doubtful that President Smatresk will change speakers. And, most of the threats regarding planned giving proposals are nothing more than bluster. If one's planned giving depends upon the political bent of a one time speaker, those doing the planning are pretty darn shallow people. Have they not seen our recent list of very very liberal speakers invited to campus? Pure theater here folks. The adults will prevail as they usually do in such situations.
-
Does this mean people will actually come watch the team? If all those who have expressed opinions about this hire would actually show up for the games we could see a percentage increase in attendance.
-
Just that. Saw them using it during the circle drill at a practice to fire up the players and I believe they had it after practice during a "chat"about the SMU game. Just some motivational stuff that college players get fired up about.

Sounds like a plan.

If you are embarrassed that you went to UNT, may I suggest you do enroll at A&M. Don't need folks "embarrassed" of UNT. Gig 'Em wanna be Aggie! What embarrasses me are the folks who express embarrassment over THEIR University and express their acceptance of some other random university they have nothing but t-shirt loyalty to if that.

Yankee sympathizer! You do realize that Lee was only giving Grant his sword at Appomattox so he could polish it, right? Dumbass drunk kept it! :-)

Ahem.....cough....cough....regarding Ben....well, I am here to confirm that he is now a Mean Green Club member joining at my "arm twisting" as some on here have called my fund raising attempts, and he joined above the minimum level as well. So, unlike some who love to pontificate about all that is wrong with UNT and UNT athletics, Ben is placing his money squarely where his mouth is these days. Might be time to consider a different angle to attack him...or maybe pick on someone else who bashes UNT all the time...anyone come to mind Old Guy?

No...no it isn't. It depends on ones perspective and basic view of the world and life around them. It really is a personal choice. But, this is a talk for another time and place. Some just see something, anything, and look for the negatives first. Others see the same thing and see the positives. Matter of choice. We all know some things make no sense, such as the German airline suicide mass murder, and it is hard to understand no matter one's basic outlook on life.

Unfortunately, there are lots of women's HC positions open. Candidates have choices and as such, stretches out the search. Too bad, but that's the case. Probably ran into a "challenge" or two with a few candidates as well...like salary...and maybe what players the team has coming back as a base for the team. Who knows, but no matter when or who is selected, the experts here will have their say and probably still never come to a game. You know...support them from afar! :-) LOL!

Interesting, as I get this stuff from UNT all the time. Including now stuff regarding "Grandparents University". Ha! I think they actually have me pretty well figured out!

Why the hate for UNT? UNT might be miles ahead of UK in the kid's chosen field of study. UK has nothing on UNT in the way of academics. And, they don't have a historically strong football team either. Now, if the kid is a "one and done" caliber basketball player...absolutely choose UK. But, if it isn't for basketball, the kid would do well to seriously ponder that choice of schools. Stop hating on UNT. :-)

I happen to be OK with Thursday games, but that's simply because of my personal situation. However, moving this one presents a challenge for me. We will be overseas...Australia in fact...just returning the day of that game now that it has been moved. Originally planned the trip to have a couple of days to R&R after the long flight home. And with having to miss another home game already, this will be tough. I guess it depends upon if the plane arrives back at DFW on time, how long it takes to get through customs at DFW and what the traffic is like getting up I-35 during drive time. Well, not to mention my state of fatigue after a long flight back. But, hey, it's Mean Green football...doubtful the bride will buy into driving straight from the airport to Apogee, but will hope I have time to drop her at home before kick-off. Well, unless I can try to talk her in to just coming on to the game. Any of you big time talkers got any ideas on how to convince her to come with me to the game? What do you think it might cost me in "make up" things/money/chores to get her to agree?
-
Absolutely...and some thought to dumping the Hawaii Bowl as well. The date of that bowl is terrible and so is the cost if attending. Bahamas Bowl not much better. Did everyone note the attendance at both these bowls? That alone should say all that needs to be said regarding these two bowls. Austin and Tucson are both better travel possibilities.....my opinion of course.

[quote name="Green P1" Single greatest tactical mind in US History. Had it not been for the overzealousness of a few Norh Carolinians, American history would have been much longer tarnished by the cause Stonewall himself actually despised. Lee was nothing compared to Jackson.

Mean Green Defense Hitting Hard This Spring
KRAM1 replied to GOMG2013's topic in Mean Green Football
Good stuff. Like what I am seeing from our new Defensive Coirdinator. Looks like our defense is getting its swagger back.
