  1. Could very well have been Matt. When I refereed, I knew the players as I had refereed their teams on numerous occasions. I knew who to watch a bit closer, who might get a bit longer leash and who might not get that many "benefits of the doubt" based on prior performances. Actions do have consequences. The MLS refs know these guys. I have talked with many an MLS ref and other professional league refs during Dallas Cup seminars for refs. Player reputations play a pretty big role. Not in that they are treated unfairly, that's not the point, but rather that they are watched much closer and given a bit less rope based on their prior consistent style of play. Happens...may have been Perez's problem in his straight red. Harsh, but happens. Perez might want to look in the mirror, but I would hate to see him tamper down that aggressive play...just smarten up a bit.
  2. The BOR cares how many HS coaches come watch UNT spring practice?
  3. Pretty much vindication for Okie State after that discredited Sports Illustrated article a year or so ago. SI pretty much did a "Rolling Stone Frat report" on Okie State. Terrible research, terrible reporting, quick to rush to judgement. But is what it is and Okie State has been held accountable for the infractions actually discovered. As it should be...rules are rules. Seems to be a fair end to a stupid hatchet job by unprofessional SI reporters.
  4. Very true, but for me it was and will always be the Student Union. I'll just try to refer to it as "The Union" from now on as a possible compromise. But, since it is technically a remodel...the Student Union still stands!
  5. Desperate teams do desperate and often stupid things. This is both desperate AND stupid! Guy will be on the DL again in less than a month or will be "rehabbing" from yet another drug "situation". MLB had a chance to do the right thing and suspend him for his latest "drug" lapse. They punted and the Rangers stepped up to help the Angels get this distraction out of its locker room. Really really bad move by the Rangers. But, come on...this is a joke, right? The Rangers really wouldn't stoop this low even as desperate as they are right now for some power hitting, would they? Seriously?
  6. It might take that long for Coventry City. Check out the book "staying Up" sometime. A bit dated now and most likely out of print (but can probably be found using Amazon's book find link if interested), but it is a great read on Coventry's history of escapes from relegation for many years...at one time one of the longest members of the top league in England. Oh well, I had the Scottish a League Rangers...the Protestant team to the Celtic Catholic in the SPL...until, of course, they had that little money situation...still a Ranger fan, but with Coventry of the Rangers...well....got to just spread the love to several different PL teams.
  7. Good get for Jalie and the Mean Green. This staff, on paper, is shaping up very nicely. Welcome to the Mean Green Coach Brasels.
  8. Jalie seems to be pretty busy signing players and hiring coaches early. Really great to see her enthusiasm for rebuilding the program. Here's hoping all her "gets" work out for her.
  9. Good get for the Mean Green! Here's hoping he plays enough and well enough to earn a scholarship ASAP. Local kid is good news as well. Welcome aboard Trevor!
  10. Man, you are really reaching in your attempt to be a complete tool here, but not surprising that you can't grasp the meaning of the post. No where did I say I approved of the actions regarding their public criticism of UNT. I said the "adults" would understand and not be embarrassed because it is what college kids do. It is about "adults" and their reactions. But, I guess only the adults here could grasp that.
  11. I like the way you think....well, in soccer posts that is. :-). OK in some of your other sparring as well. :-) When Coventry City was relegated a few years back it was a big time bummer for me. Haven't grabbed onto another PL team in a big way since but sort of follow several including Arsenal and Everton. I know, I know...split loyalties and all that. Just wait until Coventry City comes back up!
  12. Most "adults in the workplace" will see it for exactly what it is....college students being college students and will blow it off as just that. It is in no way embarrassing to any any "adult" with any inkling of understanding of what it is...unless, of course, one just looks for such "embarrassment" and buys into the possibility. It is not the first, nor will it be the last, university that makes the news because some students didn't like the choice of commencement speakers. Happens pretty much every year. No biggie...not in any way embarrassing to the university in question. Now, if students then make public spectacles and fools of themselves at the commence the address, well, that could be a tad embarrassing.....for the students in question that is.
  13. Yep...have been on the committee at two different university stops that was charged with selecting homecoming dates. At neither university did the committee ever discuss who the opponent was to be. It was all about timing for events, weather, other local events, HC events and times, when it was in relation to parent weekend, etc. Not once did we discuss opponents and who they might be. Now, grant you this is only a sample size of two and has been a few years ago, but it is my personal experience with this sort of thing. Others serving on such a committee may have an entirely different experience. Just go win the darn game...better to beat them on their homecoming anyway.
  14. Said to be October of 2015.
  15. Yep...you know, KRAM, the guy who will actually be there to see you play...unlike UNT90 who just talks. You'll never see UNT90, but he'll have plenty of excuses and will be "supporting you from afar". I just know you will feel the love.
  16. I give you that.
  17. Officially a remodel per Dr. Smatresk. No way to get approval for new construction through the state. In fact, I mentioned that I thought it was a remodel and Dr. Smatresk replied that indeed it was. Same thing happened at OSU when I was a grad student there...the new Sereteen Performing Arts Center was classified as a remodel as the state would not approve new construction at the time (1970-1972). They tore the old building down to one wall and a bit of foundation and built the new beautiful performing arts center around that standing wall. Quite a remodel, huh? UNT Student Union is the exact same situation. Official remodel. Ha! Do we call that creativeness or gaming the system? Well, we call it whatever it takes to get the job done. The place is absolutely beautiful. Cannot wait to see the finished product.
  18. Come on 90. Certainly he isn't responsible for his own actions and behaviors. But, yes...Uber or Taxi or sober friend. Dumb move. I wonder if he still gets the SMU gig?
  19. Too funny. Well played, Sir!
  20. What? LSU doesn't have a forum? Amazing. So, not even LSU folks care. Wow, only at Noth Texas, huh? Blink blink....the light...the light.....so very blinding.
  21. I am talking about Blake Griffin. As an OSU as wee, grad I saw a lot of Blake Griffin. Probably a ton more than you. Kid played with heart day in and day out. Never a question about the kid. But if you want to make some comparison out of it...sure, it is well documented that both in college and in the pros young Mr. Mitchell's work effort was questioned by a good many people...including the pro team that drafted him and even by his own comments after being drafted. Facts are facts...hard to dispute that even though you might try. Not even you could have missed all that....I thought. So, no fair game at all...just relating what I saw in Blake Griffin...you brought up Mitchell. If you have a problem with it, go look up Mitchell's own quotes and those of the Pistons early on regarding his draft position.
  22. So, if I were HC and considering where the team is regarding the QB position, here is exactly what I would do.... I would request that Mr. Williams report to my office for a little one on one chat. I would clearly explain to him how I felt that he was clearly the most athletically gifted QB currently on the roster and the QB with the most upside. I would then clearly and slowly explain how very disappointed I was in his commitment to getting better and being committed to being number one. I would outline what I expected him to accomplish between now and the start of fall practice including off season work outs, film study, playbook study, etc., etc. I would then explain that the starting job would be wide open if he accomplishes the established off-season goals. Then...I would clearly explain to him that if he should decide not to do all he could to reach those goals that I would not be renewing his scholarship and that I would be happy to assist him in finding a new team and college for which to play. Because if he was not willing to do what it takes to be number one that there is no place on the roster for him or anyone with the same attitude/perspective. I would explain that having potential is worthless if it is not realized and that right now all he is is "potential". I would offer any help that he feels he might need to develop that potential, but I would also make it perfectly clear that this was on him and that no other person was responsible for his attitude and "want to". In closing I would explain that this was his last opportunity and it was his to either accept and succeed or continue on his same path and be playing elsewhere. That's it. Very frustrating to have such wasted potential, but there is still time. So, if I am head coach, that is exactly what I would do. And, I would hope he accepts the challenge to be number one. If not UNT would have an open scholarship available to use on someone who does want to do all it takes to be successful. And, I wouldn't look back. Cannot waste time or scholarships on "potential" unrealized. Unless, Dajon takes the hint or Mr. Smith is indeed the real deal come fall, I would be starting Little Mac with Connor Means waiting in the wings.
  23. Blake Griffin also seemed to understand what it took day in and day out in practice and on the court to be successful.
  24. Why do we care what LSU does or does not do? No impact on UNT at all. I imagine LSU has their own sports fan board. Seems better served on that board.
  25. Why are you always beating up on coaches who have left UNT? Don't you know what that looks like? LOL!
