  1. 26 commas, on that page. I see only, 2, that shouldn't be, there.
  2. You are right that we don't have a single stud halfback, but we have a lot of good guys who rotate in regularly. They stay fresh. Five halfbacks with the most carries each avg more than 7 ypc and as a group they average 93 ypg. Kemper wasn't the best player on the team, he was just presumed to be a starter because he played a lot in 2015. A couple of former LBs were moved over in spring ball, and Kemper didn't come out of spring ball listed as starter. One of those former LBs is starting FB - only played one series against Lafayette, hasn't practiced yet this week as far as I know, may be out Saturday. Backup FB played only a little against Duke, was out for Lafayette, not sure if he's back or not. 3rd string FB (the other former LB) rushed for 100+ against Lafayette. Regardless of who is at FB, the key is the OL. If they do their jobs, the TO will work. If they don't/can't (like @ Duke), then it won't. Best WR has been out since Buffalo (part of why we lost), but he might be back Saturday. Oh, and Kemper is off the team because he's gone from the academy due to the honor violation. Not because Monken kicked him off.
  3. Re: the head scratcher... Starting DB Brandon Jackson died in a car crash the night of the Rice game. Team managed to fight through the grief and walloped UTEP on the road. Jackson's funeral was 2 days after the UTEP game... 5 days later, on opening KO at Buffalo, our starting K got hurt making the tackle. Army scored a TD on first possession and was in the lead until about 2 minutes to go in the game. Gave up 2 TDs in the 4th quarter, and those are the only points Army has allowed in the 4th all year. Backup K missed FG that would have won in regulation and then missed again in OT. I think the combination of grief, back-to-back road games, and kicking were just too much to overcome.
  4. Visitor's section is indeed the south end zone.
  5. First: hoping for a good game this weekend. Hoping for an Army win, course, but hope that the trip is good for your team & fans. Second: a good mix of misconceptions and excuses in this thread as to why Army has struggled in football. No difference in height/weight standards between USMA, USNA, and USAFA. Protracted war effort is not to blame, at least not in my opinion. No, a one win season where that win is over Navy wouldn't be a cure-all. The only grads who think that way are the ones who have simply given up. The lack of success has mainly been due to a combination of lack of focus by administration and poor decisions on coaching changes. Back in the late 1990s, we joined C-USA, struggled, then fired a long-time coach. I think it was time for him to go, but we made the mistake of hiring someone who had an offensive philosophy that was diametrically opposed to the one that had brought us some success in the 1980s and first half+ of the 1990s. Fired him and botched the next hire -- pulled Bobby Ross out of retirement. He re-retired after three seasons and, on short notice, we promoted the OL coach, a guy with very little college coaching experience. Fired him after a couple of years and hired a guy who at least a good resume, but we limited our search by both philosophy and salary. Throughout this time, our staff wasn't being paid at FBS-level. Fired him and made some substantial philosophical changes. Hired a coach who learned under the best service academy coach in the past 40+ years. Pay him and his staff well. Made reasonable modifications to the summer training schedule -- football players now do the mandatory military training early in the summer, then get back to West Point to attend summer school & do strength training. Gone are the days where a senior starter may have been out in the field training with an active duty Army unit right up until the beginning of preseason practice. Would we join C-USA? I don't think we're interested in any affiliation right now, we're simply trying to get back to football respectability. We have the luxury of being able to do that as an Independent. After we get where we believe we should be competitively, then maybe we'd look for a home for our football program. It will get harder to have a decent schedule if we start winning more games.
  6. Yep, and the teams ahead of them in the CAA are #s 4, 5, 11, 10, "26", and "28" in the latest FCS poll. JMU is "29th". Not too shabby. Sagarin rates the CAA quite a bit more highly than the Sun Belt.
  7. How about a brand-driven button-down?
  8. It's like spring, flowers are blooming, birds are singing! As an Army grad & fan, I know how this feels. I hope you guys get the right guy on the first try. I certainly don't recommend having to go through this four times in one decade.

  9. Now do it again.
  10. That's VERY untrue. One need only look at our our points scored to see an obvious difference. A less obvious one comes from watching the plays. Our offense is expanding. The fly sweep that we ran with great success against you guys? We did not run it once all of last year. The play on which Mealy scored our first TD against you guys? Ditto.
  11. First, I'll plaigarize myself (from a post on the Hawai'i board) in answer to the costumes question: The Corps of Cadets is divided into 4 regiments; each regiment is divided into 8 companies. The companies are referred to by letter followed by the number of the regiment. Cadets live, eat, and breathe with their cadet companies. Each of the 32 companies has its own company nickname & mascot -- typically something that ties in with their company letter (one of the B companies is "Bandits", one of the D companies is "Ducks", etc.) It is not uncommon to pilfer a logo/mascot from a college or university to use as the company logo/mascot. When I was a cadet, I was in Company C-3. Our mascot was the (Fighting Game)Cock. You might be able to figure out what we used as a logo (see below)... ( and despite what the tv guys say, the cadets in mascot costumes are not always plebes -- if an upperclassman wants to be the mascot, they certainly can be ) Regarding trying to get girls to stand in the cadet section: more than likely done by plebes who were challenged to do so by upperclassmen. And no, cadets have no better game than what you saw when it comes to picking up girls.
  12. Unfortunately, we Army fans are not terribly far removed from an 0-13 season, an NCAA record which almost certainly will never be equaled. It helps keep football things in perspective.
  13. glad you guys like the campus -- maybe next time the game will be a few weeks later and the fall colors will be there for your enjoyment as well untcampbell: your cousin is a yearling here's the order: plebe yearling cow firstie
  14. It certainly got a laugh from me. Maybe I should send a link to the Navy board for their enjoyment as well.

  16. Thanks. I truly hope that your guys get healthy. ( And, as for the triple option... I was a cadet when Jim Young was our coach and we went to two bowl games in those four years. I had a roommate who started on the O line for our 1988 Sun Bowl team. I cannot tell you how nice it is to see the team for which I cheer properly execute a cut block. )
  17. I'd like to introduce you to the concept of tenure.
  18. Is your OL ready to cut block? How about your WRs? Many (most) people think the triple option is a simple offense. It isn't.
  19. Let's hear it for seriously out of date lists! Without looking things up, I count at least 13 names on that list who are either no longer head coaches or who are at different schools. There are also repeats (Richt is 7th and 10th, Tedford is 12th and tied for 26th). I wish I could collect two paychecks for doing one job. ( No, I do not have one that is more up-to-date. )
  20. one more: http://www.recordonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/misc?url=/_flash/gallery/gallery.html&Site=TH&Date=20100918&Category=SPORTS36&ArtNo=918009998&Ref=PH
  21. officially "undisclosed" but reportedly $1.2M (through 2014) with a $2M buyout http://bleacherreport.com/articles/388753-a-golden-parachute-for-both-al-and-owls
  22. No way. If he's going anywhere, it Penn State whenever JoePa decides to drop the "Head Coach" title.

  24. So, you want to run the triple option? Kinda tough to do mid-season, and not advisable when you've already lost two QBs.
