  1. A near wash. How on earth do you know that? Truth is you, nor I, nor anyone else knows what the revenue increase would be or even what he costs would be. That excuse has been way played out. This shouldn't even be address because we all know that no one EVER goes to watch FIU, FAU, ULL. Why? Because no one wants to travel to watch us play no name, crappy teams. Media coverage, I have been to 1 UNT that was filmed on ESPN 2. ONE. 'Reporting in local papers and newscasts'? What are you talking about. What difference would it make if we were in a different conference or the SBC? I do agree that the kickoff times are better. But the only ones concerned with that are the people going to the games and these days aren't many. If the WAC gets 'cherry picked' in the near future, then right after that the CUSA and then the SBC will also get 'cherry picked'. The question is whether or not we will be one of the chosen. Oh wait we had the opp. a few years ago and chose not to. And now our football program is much better....or is it worse now? You know if Boise st had this same attitude they prob. wouldn't be where they are now huh...I'm not afraid to travel to watch a better game. We have time zone issues with our conference now Florida, Tenn...etc. So pretty much the only reason is increased travel costs. The idea becomes where do you want to see UNT in the very near future? Stuck playing no name SBC schools or playing schools people have heard of. A better fit for UNT fans, future, alumni or a better fit your wallet and time to travel? The question is 'who has better football program', which leads to better football teams, which leads to better competition, which leads to more recognition, which leads to increased attendance (games and school), which leads to more school spirit, which leads to a better name for UNT alumni, which leads to better jobs, which leads to more money for athletics........This is the cycle we need to get into.
  2. And if the Big 12 wasnt full....we for SURE wouldnt be up for a spot in it....I guarantee you that.
  3. WAY worse...if the WAC lost its top 5 schools it would still be better than the SBC. The SBC is nothing but an entry level conference for teams who just got a football team or turned 1A.
  4. OMG...are you kidding.... Stay where we are or hold out for CUSA...man you're shooting for the stars aren't you. So while we're waiting lets see what happens: Our fan base and school spirit decreases even more, we get less and less recruits, play worse and worse teams as those (with the right idea) in the SBC move on to play bigger and better schools by accepting better conference invitations.......All while we wait for our position to enter into a BSC conference...did i hear you right..a BCS conference. I did want this to happen while I'm still alive. Wow, lets see what the chances of a poorly ranked SBC school are of getting into any conference, let alone a BCS conference. Tell me what the travel expense would be...please. But then tell me the projected increase in revenue that moving into a better conference would be. In State rival....how would that be detrimental???? We dont have any rivals now, esp. not in state.
  5. Even still...are we going to have to wait for the SBC to fold in order to move conferences?
  6. CMJ...ok Old Timer I dont care about any Big West or any other 50's conference. I care about the future, not the past. I think its great that we have more than 2K fans at our games now, just like in 5 years I want to be able to look back to now and say we used to have only 16K fans at our games. No use getting content with how things are now because 20 yrs ago they were worse....WELL heck they should have been worse then, just like now should be worse than 5 yrs from now. So what...things have improved a little...I want them to keep improving. So lets tip our hat to the SBC.................AND MOVE ON!
  7. A few questions as I have not been here 6 months: 1. Why was that the right thing? What possibly benefits have come from it? 2. Why do we want in the CUSA, over other conferences? No one is arguing but still no one has been able to answer those questions. This should be a moot point as we all agree the SBC sucks and WAC, CUSA, MWC are much much better, therefore change conferences. Case closed, no more 'arguing'. Right!?
  8. Disagree. I think a 'Mid major' conference will vastly increase the talent of the recruits, therefore making the team more 'successful'. And who they recruit. Lets face it we aren't all of a sudden start winning unless we recruit talent. To do that we have to get out of a conference of bottom dwellers. Also disagree, their schedules are much much more difficult that ours. Not sure I understand your reasoning, or agree. I dont think UNT needs to be picky about which conference they GET INTO as long as they GET OUT of the SBC. Couldn't agree more...about the Baseball team and winning anyway. Again, I dont think a new stadium is a must to move conferences. BUT yes we do need to just focus on the Belt and every possible way to get out, if that means winning games and adding a Baseball team then my all means lets push for it.
  9. AMEN brotha...now you're speaking my language.... We need to get freakin dorks who want to keep the UNT football games feeling like a high school game out outta there. If they want to see a high school game go watch Denton Ryan. As for me, I want to start seeing some good college football games with some good recruited players with even better tailgating with exciting plays.
  10. Well CMJ do explain yourself.....please Because staying in the SBC has really done a whole lot for the future of UNT hasn't it?
  11. see that is what I heard (actually heard CUSA)...why on earth would we have turned it down?? I heard it was because RV said we wouldnt get good recruiting....al contreer (sp?) I guarantee that we could get much better recruits that want to play for the WAC or even CUSA rather than SBC. MEN It's time to move up
  12. Def. have a point but I think the reason all of Denton doesnt sport the gear is because it's dorky. I would like to assemble a team to put together an actual eagle (tho it does look better now) and decide on a color that people really want to wear and would pay money for. As I mentioned earlier my GF is on the swim team. They get some pretty cool gear that steal from her.
  13. hey how did you get ur picture to show up...i got this new pic in my profile but want it to show up so everyeone can see my elephant pooping
  14. Thats correct. I knew there was a 28 in there somewhere....but even STILL, not too bad for the crappy WAC that no one thinks we should get into.
  15. dumpsalot....doesnt that just sound funny Yes marshall is averaging better than UNT by far...But I dont think that says as much about Marshall as it should about the changes UNT needs to make. After all they lost to SMU this year after we played them. My idea is to hire a team...even volunteers....that are COOL, not dorks and try to put together some structure in our athletics. I would like a universal logo and color (forest green in my opinion). I would like cool shirts that people want to wear and hats. I think we need to get a committee of people together to decide (by asking the students) what eagle we should use and how we should design our new clothing line...Frankly, I dont wear UNT appearal (sp?) because it looks dorky, unless I'm at a game. I want shirts and hats that fans could wear to Austin and have the UT fans try to copy the design....I HAVE A DREAM
  16. Phi Kap, Let me better say what you were trying to say: Nevada lost by one pt to Miami and were up the whole game, Hawaii killed Arizona St, San jose beat NM, Boise up by 28 pts at one time (not to mention they were playing the BIG 12 champs). Sun-Suck we had 2 teams playing 2 other no name teams and only one SBC won and the other got killed....Yippy...fun to watch. My point here is not that I am an avid WAC fan but I AM avidly against SBC.........so I'm not a pro WAC fan but fully against the idea of staying in the SBC.
  17. We have already decided that Marshall isnt anything. Now what about the attendance of the other schools that moved to the WAC?
  18. Hey shaft..youre right....Sun-Belt for LIFE!!.....yeah right getoutta here Oh yeah...please tell me all the benefits of staying in the Sun-Belt, because I cant wait to here this. Probably you will say that we can save more money and build our new stadium and THEN get into a better conference...right?! Wrong, then we will have a 10% more chance of building a new stadium with the revenue that we're not getting now, and pack it with air while we're playing your favorite SBC rivals. You act like we have this awesome recruiting process and we're pulling all this talent....which we both know isn't true, so Ill just ignore your last question. Bottom line is there is no reason to continue this dispute merely because no other conference has offered us an invitation...BUT if they do and we decline, I'll burn my diploma and poop on the eagle's head in the middle of campus. If we accept, I will send my kids here. ps. about Marshall. They may have had respect for a while and they should have ran with it, but they didnt and who are they now...besides a movie with matthew mcskjlskjdfljhay. Why dont you do some research about the school you listed above and see what their attendance has done since they jumped (yes jumped) conferences. I would be curious to know.
  19. Nice post...If the Talons could stay sober long enough they might be more productive
  20. I thought financial support was a given. Dont you think the first step in getting support for the alumni would be to get them to the games?? Yeah, I do too. I mean you're asking them for money for something they take no part in or have no interest in. But if we were able to play schools regularly like SMU, La Tech...etc. then they might get out of the house, spend some money on admission, and then maybe support a little more. And we're probably not going to do that playing ULL, or ULM... Now dont get me wrong, I think it's great that you're supporting a school you didn't even attend but are you going to the games, telling your friends to go, etc.? Hey, either way I'm a huge UNT fan...but I'm one who would like to see some good football, good recruits, great plays, packed stadiums with nothing but green (and the same shade of green).
  21. There is NO WAY a Sun-Belt Conference team will EVER be in the top 25....EVERRRR How do you like the picture
  22. Great question-and all too often not asked enough. It starts with the people. I am trying to get people to realize that the SBC sucks. Once people realize that we can then work together to change it, but for some odd reason some people think that this conference is 'ok', and a select few, 'good'. I am not one to sit back and complain about the way things are, I would love for us to get out of the rut we're in, but for anything to happen everyone has to be on the same page. I don't think a new stadium is essential to us moving into a new conference, a baseball team...yes. Thats why I'm trying out....not really but I would. So to sum up your question; I'm trying to influence people. I'm trying make people see that the future of UNT is NOT in the Suck-belt conference. I'm trying to change the status quo so that students, fans, and alumni can say that We Are North Texas.... Now....what are you doing........or what is anyone doing?
