Mean Green Defense Shines In Scrimmage
Daddy Dumpsalot replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
This worries me: "Dodge was particularly pleased with the Mean Green's defensive front that kept UNT's quarterbacks on the run all day and forced bad throws that resulted in four interceptions." Not to discredit the size and strength of our defensive line but when we play against the size and strength of schools like OU what is going to happen to our QB and our passing game? Surely it wont get any better. -
Baylor's 4th Game Of The Season Is At Buffalo
Daddy Dumpsalot replied to Green Means Go!'s topic in Mean Green Football
Well I could certainly see that playing anywhere in the NE would get them some exposure to a different part of the US and possible different recruits. My statement had nothing to do with why would Baylor play Buffalo, but rather only the suggestions of why they would not play us...and its not because they're afraid we'll beat them. -
Umm..well at least we got our name in the article

Baylor's 4th Game Of The Season Is At Buffalo

Not to reign on anyone's fantasy parade here but did anyone consider: Maybe its not that they're afraid to play UNT but maybe its that they dont care about UNT? Maybe its because they derive no benefit from playing a school in the SunBelt. Think about it: The only reason any of the Big 12 schools would have to play us is because we are a 'season warm-up' team. I honestly doubt that the Rice and Houston ADs are making the schedules think...'we dont want to play UNT because they'll beat us' but rather 'what would playing UNT do for us'...and the answer is probably nothing. -
Is the scrimmage still going on?

Sow With Nt Combined On Helmet?

I knew there was a select few out there...Congratulations! But as for having it as our logo...I think the rest of the population would disagree with you (and yes, I cannot speak for all, but why dont you ask some of your fraternity bros). -

Is this correct? -
I like our new logo a lot. It's like night and day between our last logo. For some reason when I saw that I thought of Hockey, not sure why. IMO I'm down for just a plain white helmet with a big green stripe down the center.

Troy and MTSWho? Perhaps youre different from the rest of the people. Remember why MOST people watch football games, they watch them because they have heard of the school, not because they like the offense or defense the school runs. Think about it, 85% of our fans dont come to the games to see our new spread offense, they come when we play a team that they have heard of before...thats it. The other 15% is where anyone who would rather see Troy/MTSWho play than some nationally recognized team would fall. If you ask a girl...'are you coming to the game' she doesnt ask 'is todd dodge running that new offense' or 'oh yeah arent we going back to 4-3 defense' no she simply says 'um...who do we play'. If our answer is a school that she has heard of before, then she will come. -

Many of whom? You and a few other ppl on this board and possibly the older alumni. Why dont you go around and ask the greek system, the athletes, and students and see what they have to say. Either way, it isn't coming back and I dont think that being 'instantly recognizable' is a good thing if it's for a bad reason. -

This is the gayest design I have ever seen. What the heck is it. You think people want to wear shirts and hats with this thing on them? You think people want to support a university with the rediculous looking pile of worm crap? You think our players want to be seen in something like this? This logo is the dorkiest, most nerdy, stupidest logo ever. It looks like some hippy on Fry st designed it when they were stoned. If we want to be taken seriously as a D1 University, this crap has to go. It's almost as rediculous as that stupid albino squirrel. Why dont we make a stupid flying albino squirrel with crooked wings and call him SOS? -
The SOW is dead, its never coming back, its ugly, can we get over this...What the heck is a Son of a worm anyway and who wants that on anything viewed publicly. I like the white helmets I just hope that we're not called Southlake 13th grade.

I dont think I would discredit TxSts academics. Their Business school is doing wonders, esp. their entrepreneurship program. And while TxSts 'party' reputation gets them attraction and increased enrollment, UNTs academics sure dont. You dont find people coming from far off because UNT has a great Business school or whatever (now each college does have its strengths in certain depts so Im talking overall). I would not say Houston is anymore of a commuter school than UT is and UT is def. NOT a commuter school. I'm from Austin and grew up there. I was informed that at TCU Freshmen and Sophmores must live on campus. Could UNT implement some sort of way to keep the Freshmen on campus....say...no cars allowed. Now before you dismiss this think about it, there are plenty of other schools that do this (though I dont know of any off hand, does Tech?)...It would encourage the Freshmen to meet people. Another thing is TxSt has a HUGE greek scene, they are having parties all the time (not condoning). UNT's greek scene is not so happening. Everytime you throw a party the cops find out before anyone else. Not to mention that the liberal school hates the greek system and chokes them out so much they cant thrive and grow. I personally think the greek scene is one of the most important things to grow on campus. Most of the students that come to UNT from far away jump into the greek system to make friends and this keeps them here on the weekends. If the system wasnt so regulated as far as parties go then more people would want to join the greek system. You get one strike and then you get kicked off campus for 5 years. I was an SAE when we got kicked off a few years ago. Sorry this turned into more of a vent session... -

I dont believe by the term 'commuter school' they mean how many people sleep in dorm beds. I think rather they mean that the majority of the people come from outside the Denton area and that a majority of them work part, if not full time, while attending school. UT would not be considered a commuter school since it is in Austin with the majority of people coming from Austin. I agree that Denton is growing and will continue to grow, but so is Dallas. Bottom line is that there has to be something to keep people in Denton on the weekends etc., and right now there isnt. What will...(in my opinion) is that the university's image changes and more people outside of the DFW area here about UNT and desire to come here. The school needs to attract more people from farther away that do not have the option to go home every weekend. Tx State is considered a commuter school but it's lively on the weekends because people come from farther cities. Tx St. is known as a party school so people have something to keep them there on the weekends and this reputation attracts people from other cities. -

In response to UNT being a commuter school...I know that the campus is growing and increased residency is also growing but one must admit that UNT still feels like a commuter school. The reason I say this, and have mentioned it on other threds and I think it must be dealt with somehow, is how on the weekends all of the '20,000' plus students vacate Denton, leaving UNT feeling like a commuter school. Even on gamedays, though attendance in Denton is increased, people still go home. There is no sense of pride in UNT. I think us being in a better conference would def. keep more students in Denton on game days as well increase School pride. -
I went yesterday. I have never been to one before so I cant really compare it to DD era. I will say that our secondary looked pretty slow. I watched them attack the bag and they didn't (majority) have incredible speed. I was impressed watching our QBs, they seem to have pretty good arm strength and were able to hit the basket from about 40-50 yards away. #7 QB looked pretty good, he was consistent with his throws. I think we could work on how hard our QBs fire the ball. They simply just lobbed a couple of balls that would have been picked off by a one legged man or woman. Now on the catching end...our receivers looked like they needed some sticky gloves. #14 missed a number of easily catchable passes right in the numbers and a few of the rest of them missed some ones they should of caught. But this is all my $.02.

So I went to the UNT bookstore yesterday. I was very dissapointed in our merchandise. I was looking for a zip up bottle koozie and all they had was these stupid shirt shaped koozies to fit around your bottle (fortunately Voertmans had it). Then I wanted to buy a green Polo shirt to wear to the games and golfing...what do I find? Not only a tiny table with a few of them on there but 3 + different color greens between Bookstore and Voertmans. Needless to say I didn't purchase any, and the Kelly green color was hideous, it looked like a faded dark green.
