Yes, even though they can beat us doesn't say anything for them but everything against us.

Look closer, its there. Originally it wasn't but by the time you posted I edited it in. Not true. Houston played Rice first game of the season 9/2 with a 31/30 win. Houston played Smiss and won 34-20 for the conference championship. Yes, ECarolina by 1pt and Tulsa by a field goal, yes still wins though. In which both of these bowl teams went on to lose their bowl games, but thats beside the point. Texas loss 52-7. Florida st. loss 55-7. But yes they scored. So yes given all of that I would have expected our top ranked team to able to handle their #3 Rice, however, I would not have thought by that large of a margin. And I would still say that NT could take Rice at home any day. Lets not forget that our top ranked team Troy was held to a field goal by their next to last ranked UAB. Lets also not forget that another one of the wins was against their lowest ranked team. And their SMU handled our #3 AKST 55-9. NT did handle SMU pretty good. But the big SBC/CUSA upset was by a field goal.

Would you look at all those box suites!! That's what we need at Fouts

I compiled a list of games when the Sunbelt faced CUSA. I ranked each conference by # of conference wins then by overall wins. Keep in mind that this doesn't represent where they stood at the time of win or loss, just at the season end. Also, the # and the expected/upset takes nothing into account except where they rank on the list in terms of wins/losses. I was impressed at the Ull win over Houston and equally embarrassed at the Troy loss to UAB. Overall SBC = Bad. Here are the facts, take from it what you will: Sun Belt Conference: Troy vs. (L UAB 21-3, W Rice 17-41) MTSU vs (L Central MI (MAC) 31 -14) *CMU was ranked #1 in the MAC AkSt vs (L SMU 55-9, W Memphis 23-26) FAtl (no cusa game) Ull vs (W Houston 28-31, = Most impressive win in SBC) Ulm (no cusa game) NT vs (W SMU 6-24, L Tulsa 28-3) FIU 0 wins CUSA: Houston SMiss Rice Tulsa EstCrlina SMU Marshall UTEP UCF Tulne UAB Memphis SBC Wins Against: Rice (SBC #1 vs. CUSA #3) - expected Memphis (SBC #3 vs. CUSA #12) - expected Houston (SBC #5 vs. CUSA #1) - upset SMU (SBC #7 vs. CUSA #6) - upset CUSA Wins Against: Troy (SBC #1 vs. CUSA #11) - upset Tulsa (SBC #5 vs. CUSA #4) - expected MAC Wins Against: MTSU (SBC #2 vs. MAC #1) - expected

I copied this from the most recent UNT Insider email. I think this is a great idea and couldn't agree more. I hope everyone will do their part in it. Exes strive to help you get your green easier I hope you'll help the North Texas Exes in their important crusade to get more UNT merchandise in stores so that you - and numerous other North Texas fans - can more easily find and purchase UNT green. The Exes want each of us - including you and me - to begin asking store managers and buyers to carry UNT licensed products. This is an important first step in ensuring our shade of green lines just as many store shelves as the all-too-familiar burnt orange and maroon. http://www.unt.onlinecommunity.com/cgi-any...pages3_news.htm

I saw a post stating that there were 5 players drafted from the Sunbelt Conference so I decided to gather a list by conference of how many players were drafted 2007. I believe this is a direct reflection of how bad the Sunbelt Conference is. I continuously hear people saying that the WAC and CUSA are no better than the SBC, which I completely disagree. I think the Sunbelt is one of the worst conferences in existence, if not the worst then definitely runner up. As you can see from below the WAC contributed 17 players to the NFL vs. 5 from the SBC. Obviously some important people feel that the WAC is doing something right and recruiting and producing some quality players. That no matter how 'bad' their conference is they feel their players will contribute to the success of the NFL. Even the MAC had more draft picks that the SBC. If the WAC is no better than the SBC someone had better let the NFL know. SEC - 41 Big Ten - 32 ACC - 31 PAC 10 - 28 Big 12 - 28 WAC - 17 (Hawaii 5, Boise 4, Fresno St. 4, San Jose 2, etc.) Big East - 17 MWC - 9 CUSA - 8 MAC - 8 IND. - 7 SBC - 5 SWAC - 2

I am diggin Marshall and Southern Miss' stadium: Perfect capacity, great elevation, not a lot of endzone seating, luxury suites in the endzone so you can actually see the game, fans are right close to the action on the sideline. A++ I would prefer SMiss' due to the elevation of the seating, it seems that it would entrap sound better.

Cobbs is still with the Dolphins as has been said and Johnny signed a 2 yr contract with the Bills.
-
I think most people you ask would would too, except for a select few on GMG (and RV of course)
-
ok ok...why dont we chalk up the buildings too. And maybe the cars, benches, and trees since it doesn't make our campus look bad and all 50 people on GMG.com think its a good idea and speak for the rest of the university. That could be our next tradition...chalk...we could chalk up our bodies and go to the games and throw green chalk at ppl. We could eat chalk sandwiches and drink chalkies...
-
Umm...to the average fan (which lets face it, most people are, and most people that go to our games are too) it's just the same and it's not ever going to get any better. Why? because it continues to add new schools that no one has heard of before and that are just getting their start into D1 football. While the other conferences are improving faster. Lets face it...you don't see the SunBelt conference going to other Schools in other conferences and inviting them in. You dont see other school dying to get into the SunBelt, unless they have just started D1. Case and Point right there as to where the Sunbelt conference is heading. Why did Louiseville build a new stadium? why did they....(fill in the blanks)? Answer, to move into a better conference. New Stadium = more fan interest (for a few games, then dies down) = more attractive OOC oppenents at home (agreed) = bigger attendance (maybe for those games, prob. depends on if we're winning huh) = better recruits (maybe until they look at our conference schedule) = more winning (or losing) = A NEW CONFERNCE.......seems kinda far fetched. Why not: New Conference = More attendance (this has been proven by our higher attendance while playing known schools) = More national publicity (proven as better conference gets more exposure) = More alumni support (Alumni are proud to see their school represented on TV) = More recruits (i could have put this earlier but chose down here. Recruits now know about UNT and more importantly know about the school that we play against) = Winning = New Stadium (and NOW we actually have people to fill it, wont have to build a 'starter' stadium and have to add on)
-
But behind every wink there is some truth
-
EXACTLY! The stadium is more in our hands, whereas the conference change is completely out of our hands. So back to the original question. IF we had 2 choices a) conference (which we agree we have no control over and if the opp. presented itself should take it immediately) or stadium (which we could build anytime, in any conference, period). Either one is a win in my book, but if another conference wants us 'jump-on-it, jump, jump, jump-on-it' because we may not have another opportunity for a long long time, if ever. We must look at what will bring more ppl to the games, not what the patiently awating alumni on GMG have been wanting for 30 yrs. As eppy said, a new stadium will have a great showing the first game and maybe any OOC team that the fans have heard of, but outside of that, you're back to square one. And we dont need a new stadium to change conferences, although it wouldn't hurt any. NOW for factual information...talking with RV and asking him what steps were being taken, if any, in regard to getting into a different conference. He mentioned that he didn't see it happening in the next couple of years and he thought the SBC was getting better, while the other conferences were getting worse (insert disagreement here). He did make note that he wants to get the new stadium up and ready to go. I gathered that he had very little, if any, intention on aggressively seeking a new conference. I think this is a BIG mistake but....

Thats Impressive I must say.... Sorry CMJ we cannot all have the quality of posts that Your Hin-a$$ has.
-
The biggest reason in getting a new stadium would be to get into a better conference. Why would you want to pass up the opportunity to get into a new conference to get a new stadium to maybe have the 'possibility' get into another conference in 10 yrs? Doesn't make sense to me. Seems the smart thing would be that if we can get into another conference with our current stadium and bypass having to get another one built first, do it. Then build the new stadium in the new conference. You can build a stadium anytime but can't get into another conference anytime. If we built a new stadium first, then we would get to play the 'no-name' teams we already play, which no one comes to, in a new stadium. I do not believe ppl dont come to the games because we play at fouts field a crappy stadium, but rather because of the lack of quality of the teams we play. Why put a band-aid over a gaping wound?

When I lived in Kerr hall I remember seeing all the spirit graffiti and after a day of ppl walking on it it began to fade and bleed and just look terrible. So realistically it gets the message across for a very short while then it looks real bad. I agree and am on board with the spirit thing. I just hope that Mike, or whoever is in charge of doing things, would stop and ask the students their opinions. Unfortunately, as has been said before, the opinions of the few on here (including myself) do not represent what the school as a whole need or desire. So lets ask the whole.

New conference all the way!!
-
Yes...I picked this name for a reason and I wasn't lying when I did
-
Why not just put up signs and keep our campus looking good? Why not send an email out to all the students before athletic events? Why not create a Facebook group or MySpace group or use the internet somehow? Even if it degrades the image of our University?
-
This wont ever happen, no need to discuss. NT would name the stadium 'Sweaty Grundle Stadium' if someone would pay for it.

F I U Finalizes On-campus Stadium Deal
Daddy Dumpsalot replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
WOW...They are going for the gold. I think everything they listed here is EXACTLY what we need in our new stadium, except for maybe 30 Suites instead of 19 (I think these are the money bringers). Not sure what the Panther club is, but we sure need a Mean Green Club that size that could possibly overlook the field. And individual seats?? Thats great. Backrests...also great. Whether you like the design or not you all must agree that they are really incorporating luxury here. They are crossing all their Ts and dotting all the Is and leaving very little out, if anything. We need to include everything they have here plus more in our new stadium. -
Well I wasn't questioning your voting, but rather the use of Sidewalk chalk. and I prefer Darn...no need to get testy
-
Per the Football players as well as Johnny Quinn...they are working harder than they ever have in the weight room and training.

Why dont we eat 100% natural food then throw our poop at people like monkeys do?
