Big News From The Letterman's Fish Fry
Daddy Dumpsalot replied to Green Means Go!'s topic in Mean Green Football
This is exciting. But I will be negative and say that I hope the stadium will break ground in 16 months. I am not sure that a high quality stadium can be built in 16 months. This leads me to belive one of 3 things a) The stadium is going to be a piece but will be up fast {hope not} bb) The stadium will be awesome and state of the art and to get it built in 16 months the AD is paying extra for a faster build (not likely) c) In no more than 16 months ground will be broken on a new state of the art recruting machine 35K capacity with an amazing sound system to get fans into the atmospher with a jumbotron to see all the amazing action with 30 luxury seats that are pulling in million dollar donators surrounded with plasma TVs and a wet bar and a catering room stadium. Also, does anyone have a link to the video of the stadium that was supposedly put out last time they were trying to raise money? -

Tulsa Board - U N T Recruiting
Daddy Dumpsalot replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
--From the linked thred above: "Dodge's contacts with the local high school coaches will definately be a asset in recruiting....at least initially. He will have to win to maintain the excitement now being generated. However, when it comes down to it.....IT IS NORTH TEXAS....IT IS THE SUNBELT CONFERENCE. If he wins in Denton, he will soon be winning somewhere else." I agree with this. I expect us to still have a losing season this year and maybe the next given the new changes and it makes me think if he will have the recruiting success in 3 years that he is having right now. --Also from the linked thred: "He has a heck of a winning tradition and I agree completely if by his 3rd year he's winning at UNT, he'll be gone!!! If you have children and you're not the boss in you're house---you're just the tallest person in your house. " I also agree with this. Other thoughts? -

This is funny... -
I am not advocating drinking at all but I certainly think w/out a doubt that if everyone could bring beer into the stadium or purchase beer in the consession stands then I think the games would be more enjoyable (for some), and I definitely think our attendance at the games would shoot up. Lets face it I think the majority of our fan base would rather drink and party in the parking lot than watch their football team. So the way it is now a) stay outside and get drunk and simply listen to the game get as drunk as I can, hope I get into the game, and watch it...No brainer, esp. if they're already drunk. Now if we could combine the 2 we would have the best of both worlds.

Where in Austin are you moving? I am from there and agree that unless you have a helicopter it's hard to get around. It didn't used to be that way, only within the past 8 yrs or so.

They're moving to be closer to Colorado St. Not really!

Really nice letter. And thanks for sending it to the AD. Please keep everyone informed as to the reply. -
Fort Collins
-
Air Force is in Colorado Springs. I didn't want to be the only one to not say something.
-
Colorado St. is in Fort Collins....but either way I agree.
-
Stebo how are you involved in the athletic dept and particularly this project? And how can other people get involved besides donating?

Cusa Thread - Tcu Wants To Return ?
Daddy Dumpsalot replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I understand and I think everyone wants to see some improvement. I think everyone agrees anything is an improvement from the Belt. I would love to be in the MWC but dont think we should, if the opp. presented itself, pass up a move to another conference. I have learned to be content in all situations yet continue to run the race with perseverence. -

That is if Dodge is still here. If he has the success that everyone is dreaming about I'm sure a larger BCS school will come sweep him up rather quickly. Then if we ever get close to that someone will say 'I say we hold out for a Big XII bid' -
I like this idea, but what do we have to offer MWC? I'm not being negative by any sense, just wondering what would our selling points be.
-
Cheer up, your day could be a lot worse I'm sure. Now... I read Stebo's post, all of it, as well as this whole thred. The question was not directed at you but to anyone who agrees that keeping everything a secret is good for the University or the Denton Community. I presented why I thought it would be a good idea to announce it publicly, not because we 'deserve' to know, but because it's positive publicity. Someone mentioned that it was being kept a 'secret' because of the professors and academics. I don't buy that at all. First off, with how little the University supports athelitcs financially, they should have nothing to say if the athletic dept. were to raise enough money to build a new stadium or anything else in the athletic dept for that matter. What are they going to say "We can afford to build a new stadium but not give us our well deserved raise?"...To which RV should reply, and show, how little the University has not helped out financially with anything regarding to athletics, and maybe even show how cutting the athletic budget almost killed the program and put some hot coals over the heads of some. It was the athletic dept. promoting it and receiving gifts that made this possible...His as well as the whole depts hand are washed and clean. But maybe I'm wrong.
-
And the question still goes unanswered.
-
Why would this start an uprise in the University? It is not like the students are directly paying for it, outisde of what they already pay in fees. If anything I would think this sort of annoucement would start a positive uprise in the community and get everyone excited about a new stadium and get people on board with the athletic department. I hear ppl say that we have some of the best facilities in the nation...I just dont see it: I see facilities that will get us by for the time being, that are indeed better than what we have had, but I do not think our facilities are going to be the deciding factor of a torn recruit over a low end BCS school. I do not see how cutting corners and saving a few pennies on our facilities will show everyone we are serious about our athletics...same thing goes for the stadium. I would rather wait a few more years and do everything right than try to cut corners like the softball field and volleyball court. I understand money is the primary issue in how well something is built but instead of stretching our $10 to temporarily satisfy everyone, why not wait and get $15 to satisfy everyone for years to come...

Maybe UA picked NT because it is close to Dallas, it's new, and we didn't charge them much to film there. Not necessarily because it is the 'cream of the crop'...don't get me wrong I def. think its better than the stadium that they weren't playing in before, but my concern is about the transportable concession stand and bathrooms. I dont think it would have been that much more of a stretch either financially or architectually to include some permanent facilities...thought I dont mind waiting if the restrooms will have golden faucets and budets (sp?).
-
I dont think its so much that it is a CVS, but rather the location of it. Opening a store like that in what has become the 'heart' of NT is probably a waste of space. There are a ton of better things that could have been planted in that space that would attract much more students, money, and better the image of Fry St., and I hope there will be more than just that. I do not believe that a CVS on one of the most popular streets will increase the demand to go to Fry St., but rather kill it.

Does anyone know what happened or what was going on August 4, 2005 to get 224 members on GMG.com? That intrigues me that we had that many people on.
-
I remember reading an article saying that the GTM owners were going to fight back and that they presented a deal to the city that if the Rayzor Ranch deal was put on delay for X number of years they would spend $40+Million (?) to update GTM. Has anyone heard anymore about this?
-
This must be nice: Tigers Could we get a real Eagle as a mascot to attend the games? He could fly around the stadium, something like Auburn. I think this would be appropriate and could get the fans into the game. War Eagle
