Blue Ribbon Sun Belt Conference Predictions
Daddy Dumpsalot replied to Keith7's topic in Mean Green Football
Question: Has an SBC school ever been ranked in the top 25 in football? I know the conference is not very old but even still. -
I like that, its cute, almost poetic. I bet you have heard that a few times huh tasty. I still love you! For you!
-
I never said giving away a car will get ppl here, infact I said quite the opposite. What will get ppl in a game if you will read my posts...please...is a great gameday experience (recognizable opponents, wins, traditions). I think you should go to ATM and call their traditions Fluff, you would have a lot of friends there. EVERYTHING that I propose is nothing different than what we do now, just built upon it. Is what we do now a gimmick? Why dont you read what chomp has to say Here. I love you guys!

Ideas To Get Em' In 30 Minutes B4 Kick-off ?
Daddy Dumpsalot replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
You cant say this stuff on here, you'll get stoned. We live in happy land, don't destroy that with reality. -
In all fairness NT80, you, me, and the rest of the ppl on here are not your typical fans and we couldn't fill 1% of the stadium if we could all show up. If we even brought 4 friends, a liberal # would be 1.5%. So while I admire your faithfulness there are 25,000 other seats to try to attract people to. I come to watch the games as well, but your Freshmen-Seniors and even some alumni come for an experience. And, how that gets displayed is whether people will come again or not and support. I think establishing traditions is far from 'gimmicks'. You would not call the ATM yell practice, or the war eagle hey, or the War chant, a gimmick. Traditions are not going to get started with 50 ppl holding up the eagle claw or yelling stuff. It's going to have to be an organized attempt. Hence, my suggestion of writing stuff on towels and giving them away. Everyone loves free stuff. And the stuff about bouncing in the stands in anticipation for the drive. You're right it might be a little loud for our QB to read their rush defense. Give me a break! We better just wisper during our drives too so not to distract our players. BTW you will also see that no where in that post did I make mention of creating a ton of noise for our drives. So you say doesn't DUKE do this. Doesn't UT have a cannon and light their tower too? Almost all of our 'traditions' are done by other schools and they most asuredly did them before we did.

What do you think I was trying to do by starting this thread? Before anyone can go to the athletic department and say "We have some proposed 'additions' to what we are currently doing in regards to gameday experience" I have to have a list of them. BUT not one person replied with anything positive. I got things from 'Our traditions are great' to 'click here' to 'all youre doing is harping on UNT. For once I would like to read a post like this..blah blah'. I even posted a link to Flst War Chant as an idea of something that we could develop. The only thing that was of any help is FFR saying that he has tried to get the University to adopt something like this. But of course nothing has happened. To those of you who spend countless hours begging to put up UNT posters, I'm sorry for saying you weren't helping UNT at all. I guess I was just hoping UNT to get to a point where we dont need to go put up posters on every store front. MY BAD! By the middle of the thread, it became pointless because it became apparent that the 'faithful' fans on GMG were completely content with everything. Traditions dont start themselves. Yes tortilla throwing caught on quite well for the 20 or so people who were doing it. Might I suggest why! Because their gameday experience was so boring and pathetic that they had to find a new way to amuse themselves. What better to do then throw tortillas in the band's tubas and at the cheerleaders? (trust me I've seen it) Lets walk through the typical average fan's UNT gameday experience shall we: Show up 30 mins before game (2 hrs if in fraternity) Try to find some beer to drink 15 mins after the kickoff you get talked into coming in to the game to watch an opponent you have never heard of You walk into a half empty stadium and decide that since there is room on the empty bleachers youre just going to lay down You watch the game and when (if) we get a first down you scream 'thats good for another......' with about 2000 other fans You start talking to people around you and socailizing a little and lose track of the game Eventually something good happens and you hear people screaming and decide to do so yourself but not sure why We score and everyone goes crazy while the cannon booms and the drunk guys in ties attempt to do pushups Here comes the kickoff - the 3000 fans that know to raise their talens (and know what that is) do so. 1500 of those make some noise. 50 of those say 'gooooo mean green' Maybe at some point during the game we can yell 'DEFENSE' - to get the crowd to pay attention Then, as everyone anticipated here comes the neverending 'NORTH' Texas chant - AWESOME! Now skip to the 4th quarter and we're down by 2 touchdowns but driving, the excitement builds and BAM we throw an interception - uh oh there goes 1000 fans right out the gates. As the opponent marches down, there goes the rest. Game over we lost - Time to sing Glory to the Green - uh oh only 500 ppl know it so it gets a little awkward and even embarrassing to some (if we Won the game - substitute 'won' for 'lost') Time to leave and get excited about the next home game *actual numbers may vary Im truly sorry for trying to pep this experience up a little bit and any toes I may have crushed in the process.

OMG! You people are a bunch of freaking DORKS. Im am sooo sorry that you think inside your little boxes and cant pull your head out of your made up reality. Yes this new hire is going to be the changing point for UNT....YEAH RIGHT! It will last 2 seasons and then UNT is back to where it was and history repeats itself. It is soo pathetic how you all sit here in your fantasy world and make excuses about how great UNT is and the SBC conference is when in reality UNT is in bad shape and the hiring of TD will simply cover that up for a while, and dont get me started about this last place thing called a conference that we're in. The 25 die hard fans on GMG do NOT represent the majority of the school and you would venture out and actually talk to people you would learn what people thing of UNT. BUT YOU DONT, you sit on this site and just go with the flow and make rediculous excuses and live in some fantasy world. Emmit when is the last time you did something productive outside your own benefit to try to improve the university? TastyGeek same question to you. Im sorry that I have passion for this university and its future and have ACTUALLY talked with the students, the 99.5% of the rest of the population that has interest in the university, and listen to them to hear what they have to say about things. And believe me, it's a sobering reality. HERE is my prediction: 2-3 years, UNT will be in excatly the same spot that it has been in: Bottom conference, 0 fan support, 0 name recognition. The only thing different is that there will be new 'faithful' fans on this website but the same old people making excuses for where we are. And out there, off the internet, the fans that have been faithful for years will be moving on and no longer interested. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to have more 'newbies' like me, that have passion for UNT and want to bring about new changes and traditions, because right NOW the 'traditions' that everyone talks so highly about AREN'T catching on or working, and if you ASK the students what one of our traditions is, chances are they wont know. So LOGIC would say that maybe we need a new approach. Adios and I'll see you at the games.

It's baseball, not football....what do you want 30K at a baseball game? It's not going to happen. Because they have no ties to them. They do have ties to their alma mater. So I can have it both ways. They will if they went there. Maybe a baseball team??? My point was in that showing you picked the lowest team attendance in the top 50. Did you notice this: 28. La.-Lafayette 30 62,736 2,091 Obviously you have never played baseball and probably an organized sport period. If so you would realize how many people 1500 is. For baseball that is a nice showing. You mean like football and basketball? Dont forget these dont put much of a dent in the 'annual operating budget' either. Maybe we should drop them too and become a purely academic school.

Ideas To Get Em' In 30 Minutes B4 Kick-off ?
Daddy Dumpsalot replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
The only way to make people come into the games is to make it more fun than getting drunk in the parking lot. And sadly, it hasn't been. And even more sadly I dont think TD is going to change that too much. For a sure fire way to get fans into the games click HERE But those genius ideas were rejected. Apathy has set in and the improvement rollercoaster is coming to a halt. -

Ideas To Get Em' In 30 Minutes B4 Kick-off ?
Daddy Dumpsalot replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I think we should have a barge carrier horn blast each time we score. Just like they do in hockey. I think we should also have a fly over before each game. -
Yes, I remember 01-04 and that is why I said nothing has changed. I was a student then and tried desparately recruiting people to come to the games. Sadly, they didn't come. So I don't get your point. We had no more in attendance then, than we do now. We need an intimidating chant, a loud one, and not just one (but it's a start). About the spirit yells in another post...I have no idea what spirit yells you are hearing, because I'm not hearing any. The time to envoke a chant, push tradition is now, while everyone is excited about what is going on at UNT. We need to have an agenda for each scenario of the game. From the march, to the waving of Green towels and yelling a NEW chant when the players enter the field, to the fans being at the games, to the yelling GOO mean green during a kickoff, to the crowd making a ton of noise when its our opponents 3rd down, to a 'block that kick' chant when they punt, to a defense chant, to a 'good for MG first down' (i guess) for every first down we get, to the fans jumping up and down like crazy in unison when we're marching down field (maybe it would make fouts crash in)....These are the experiences and 'traditions' that must be repetative to keep fans excited about game days. Hey but maybe Im the only one who thinks that the 2 things that 50% of the ppl do now need to be improved upon. Maybe Im the only one who thinks that we could have a gator chomp, or war chant, or war eagle hey, instead of the current screeching eagle over the loudspeaker. Maybe Im the only one who would love to see the stands rumble in excitement of our first home touchdown. Maybe Im the only one who doesnt see why all the Big BCS schools are the ones with tons of traditions and unified chants and why everyone thinks the little commuter school in Denton has no tradition. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.
-
For a commuter college in Denton It couldn't hurt but when we were winning before, it didn't do much, or anything. Couldn't agree with this anymore
-
Not true and its simply because EVERYONE DOES IT...and in unison. No, I actually dont think they get tired of doing it. Its called school spirit. Cheering for what? Cheer how? Throwing tortillas could be considered cheering. Point being we need to be in complete unison in our cheers and when to cheer. As of now, we don't have that, if we did it would be awesome. Ever been to a Florida State game? Ever heard the War Chant? We need to adopt something like that...Thats tradition. IF NOT CLICK HERE

Exactly the reason why nothing ever changes.

Louisiana Tech Receives $1.1million From The W A C
Daddy Dumpsalot replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Has anyone asked the players what their opionion is? Or what their opinion of the Sun Belt is? -
You mean this?? Yeah Dawg I read it and sadly no one does it. And the fans sure dont get excited about it. Having this on our website doesn't mean a thing. Point in saying is that we need something else along with these 'traditions'. Touchdown Green Brigade plays "Fanfare" after touchdown and "Fight Song" as crowd signs along after every extra point attempt. Field Goal Green Brigade plays "Fight Song" as crowd sings along after every Field Goal attempt. And how is that?
-
Everything we have is highschoolish so far. Our traditions aren't catching on. So we have a cannon, the only part the fans play in that is getting the crap scared out of them. We yell north texas back and forth a few times a game, that takes about 5 minutes. We celebrate a first down, BUT what about kickoffs? What about TDs? What about interceptions, fumble recoveries, hard hits? What about a march up the field and we're about to score? These are the real things we should be celebrating. Sadly though, the fans pay little attention to the actual game going on. The band plays the same songs over and over and the fans dont get into it. UNT has got to incorporate the fans into the traditions for them to catch on, if they dont, they wont, and they havent.
-
So basically we have 2 things the fans get into. 1) the ever intimidating silent eagle claw arm lift which 50% in attendance does 2) and the need to celebrate our accomplishments, even achieving a "First down" - granted people know to celebrate when we get a first down...........is a good thing or a bad thing I mean if they do this when we get a first down, the stadium should have a stroke when we get a touchdown.
-
Maybe this would give them a reason to.
-
Um...No we dont But I agree with this. This is the only tradition we have so lets keep it. Now some suggestions about new one?
-
I was talking to a few alumni at Fox and Hound the other night about UNT game days. We were also talking about UNT needing to adapt some sort of tradition at games and they need to do it while the box is hot under Dodge. Our idea was as such: Provide a laminated paper or cup or a Mean Green towel. On one of those would list certain things to do during the game. For example: On kickoffs: Crowd swings towels and yells GOOOOOOO Mean Green Inside Opponents 15 yrd line: Entire crowd starts bouncing up and down in anticipation for the TD and doesnt stop Opponent inside our 15 yrd line: Entire crowd bounce and make a ton of noise. On our touchdown: .....(ex: crowd push-ups like ND) On opponent touchdown: .... On first down: Dont say anything cause 'its good for a mean green first down es no bueno' I think this would really get the crowd into the games and make the game day experience MUCH more fun and exciting for the fans and the players. And eventually hopefully it would catch on and then we would have some game day tradition. But I was wondering if anyone else had any ideas of things that could be done. If so share them here and we can see if we can get something to the athletic department....not likely I know but worth a shot.
