North Texas Feels The Sun Belt Is Better For Them
Daddy Dumpsalot replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Except for before that in the 3rd paragraph he names them correctly. You're saying he forgot what schools he was talking about?? More realistically he probably thought the readers were smart enough to put 2 and 2 together. Maybe you should write him and tell him you're not so next time to spell out the school in it's entirety. -
"Hiring the right coach, making the right facility investments, and getting local support is the real key." It has done a lot for us so far. The article sounds like a pep talk for schools desperate to leave 10 time champ of the worst D-1 conference. I don't blame them for trying for the positive PR, but unfortunately the conference speaks for itself.

Fixed it so it is correct now: I think that "most" cooler NT fans support a move anywhere upward, while "most" dorkier NT fans seem to be more accustomed to the mediocrity.

Unt To The Wac Would Be An Upgrade...
Daddy Dumpsalot replied to babigos's topic in Mean Green Football
Babigos...don't bring your sound-proof logic and perfect sense to this board. Here, we only operate on speculation and blind hope. We are die-hard Sunbelt fans here who relish in the fact that we don't have to drive too far to play our nationally recognized opponents, we have small budgets because we have small expenses, and low fan attendance so that those who come can have their choice of great seats at the games. And furthermore, we don't need televised games because then we would have to dress up. You should be ashamed...we should be asking you guys to join the Sunbelt. -
Blue Moon - It used to be Shiner but I got real bad heartburn because of it. I made the switch and no longer have heartburn issues.

My fellow GMGers: I have come to decide that this board is right and that the Sunbelt Conference is better than the WAC. I don't want to recreate the Big West conference of 10+ years ago. I will forever look forward to the day that the Sunbelt gets the recognition it so desperately deserves; hopefully another 10 years will do just that. I think by staying in this conference we can help build it to its full potential and then we can really build a name for ourselves, even if it takes another decade. I am committed to sitting by and watching the other Sunbelt schools advance go to other conferences (which are not near the quality of the SBC) while we wait and build. Furthermore, I am extremely excited to see what the newly accepted D-2 or equivalent schools will bring to the Belt. Forgive me for disagreeing with your points of view and being so stubborn in my thinking that I did not catch on to this truth sooner. Carry on and long live the Belt.

Wow...so many negatives...I love it. Truth hurts I guess.

Im sorry forever. You cannot compare the schools listed to UNT and the reason being because usually they play an SBC in the home opener and everyone is so excited about the game that they dont care who they play. And secondly (specifically UT) seats are harder to come by there so getting in to see a game, any game, is something that a fan desires. I can also say that when UT plays against a SBC team the tickets are all of a sudden given away and easier to get. Your argument doesn't work. And to those that say to get students to come to the games it's all about winning...why didn't it work during the seasons we won the SBC championships? Why is our attendance higher now than it was then? Why is our attendance higher when we play named opponents? Because when I ask students and my fraternity brothers why they dont go to the games their response is overwhelmingly because the teams we play suck. The layman's definition of suck is an opponent they haven't heard of. I can't believe that you people are arguing that the SBC is somehow superior to the WAC.

Sadly, they could probably beat us right now.

AYE!

Please leave U-lala and U-lamo in the belt...where they belong.

good one. watch out for those tortillas. So you're saying that since the suckbelt is so strong that is why our attendance has "doubled" (which it hasn't)? wow...that sure is optimistic...i'm sure that it hasn't had anything to do with enrollment increase or our new head coach and new style of offense. I mean I for sure and the students I have spoken with can barely sleep the night before our big home game against Florida International. WAC > Belt. Period.

I'm sorry..what does this thread benefit? More arguments, more disagreements, and wasted time. You simply cannot compare a 2010 WAC conference to a 1995 Big West...too much has changed. We all know where you stand and yes you are trying to stop people from expressing their views because every time they do you take jabs at them. When was the last time you went on campus and actually spoke to the students? Why is it that you think the students don't go to the games? I agree there are downsides to the WAC but there is more potential in that conference than there will ever be in the Sun Belt.

+150 for this post on a stupid thread.

This thread is ridiculous...please delete.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

Little Rudy...I think I will make it my goal to throw tortillas at you from now on when we're losing against the Sun Suck teams.
-
I would take the 3 you listed over FIU, ARst, and MTSU. But since this is about getting the casual fan into the stadium why dont you walk around campus and ask the students who they would rather us play against.
-
At the same time don't forget about our current 36K students that are in Denton of which 70% don't want to come to a free home game to watch the product the sun belt is offering. Would attendance improve with a different conference? I think history shows that it does when we play named opponents that our students have heard of. I understand that many on this board would not travel to the away games in the WAC because the distance but: 1) many don't travel as it is for the Belt schools and 2) how we travel is nowhere near as important as adding an additional 3K at home game.

You might want to revisit this. I don't think your sentence structure is correct. I understand your point. But again...it's no different than our coverage now. This makes sense, however, you're saying that we never read about any Pac10 games in the Sunday paper? I understand your point. But again...it's no different than our coverage now. This isn't a "fact" at all. And you still haven't explained why the SBC is more stable than the WAC. Thanks for the clarification.
