I too heard this. But to be fair he didn't quite have the name that he does now. He was coaching at San Diego University...not to be confused with San Diego State.

To be honest if we could play teams tougher, then anyone who currently doesn't have one. Just because SMU doesn't look to us as a "rival" doesn't mean they wouldn't after we beat them a few more times. Same for Houston and Rice. I like to think that we would set our eyes a little higher than FBS schools to have anything to do with. Come to think of it, I don't think we need an intra state rival. What other texas schools have one? The only thing I can think of is TU and AtM and even then TU doesn't consider them much of a rivalry anymore. I think the intra state rivalries are mostly in smaller states with usually 2 major universities. Auburn Alabama, Ole Miss MissSt, Clemson SC, Iowa Iowa St, Kansas KSt, etc. For texas Baylor doesn't look to TCU or Tech as a rivalry, Tech wants to rival with AtM, SMU wants TCU as a rivalry. For a "rivalry" to occur we need to consistently schedule an opposing team almost every year. If we had SMU/Houston/Rice scheduled every year a rivalry would be born.

Please think bigger than UTSA and TXstate. It makes me sick thinking that one of these two schools would be our "intra state rival".

In response to the article and all the talk about the Big East expanding (which we know we won't be considered for that) has the CUSA even mentioned adding UNT? There is some speculation from people on the board but before I get a hard silly willy I want to see if there is even reason to.

A couple of comments: 1) There was not anywhere close to 13k people at that game. My estimate is 5k tops. 2) I agree that there were many big games going on yesterday that would have kept the people away (Rangers, OU/TX). I am sure that many people started drinking before noon yesterday. But to be honest I think one of the biggest reasons was because of who we were playing. I predict that the attendance for the rest of the home games will be around 14k or about triple what we saw last night. 3) We pulled out a win and everyone is happy about that but I think there is still some frustration about what happens to our defense in the 4th quarter. It would have felt great to shut out FAU and Indiana and continue to rack up the score...but instead what happens is you move to the edge of your seat because they are scoring in about 2 minutes with ease and in trying to run the ball we end up with back to back 3 and outs. With all that said we are now 2-4 and its feeling good.

I just don't understand what happens to our defense in the 4th quarter. Can we not close a deal and keep them from scoring?

I think they went off of how the receivers played the rest of the game and concluded, "he must have been juggling the ball because they have caught so few".

Gagree...if we can't start a winning tradition on the field at least we can start it in the other areas.
