  1. agreed, smu is a rival
  2. I thought Arkansas was not a very good team..... I say we beat their @#$@
  3. I know you can buy them at Vortmans but they are expensive (30$ I think). I had been wanting one for a while and my GF got it for me for Christmas!
  4. I bet he is the Dean in Unnecessary Roughness.....
  5. Austin Statesman Overall the article kinda blows (UT that is) but I thought the last paragraph was interesting. It talks about future developments to the Mean Green Village. When the Mean Green Village is complete with the FB stadium, the track stadium, the baseball stadium, and the "new softball stadium" it will be really nice. A completed Mean Green Village will be comparable to the athletics facilities of any other university in the country. I think it will be very attractive to prospective student athletes because everything they will need will be at the Mean Green village (except the super pit for bball games and actually going to class). As much as some of us dislike RV, he has accomplished a great deal at UNT. If he accomplishes all of these plans it will be amazing. Has the Basketball practice facility been built in the cafeteria yet? As much as I would like to see luxury suites at the Super pit I think we need to continue to get better and nationally recognized. I know this is contradictory to what many of us argued for the stadium but the Super Pit is already nice and Bball does not make nearly as much money as FB. On a positive note, I think the Bball team is well on their way to being a more nationally recognized team. Does anybody know how "nice" the private school we bought is now that much of it has been renovated? Does it still look like a school? Was the Mean Green Village an idea hatched by RV or was it planned before he arrived. Last paragraph from the article: Betting on the future This year, UNT athletics is spending even more money in the hope that it will pay off later. It increased its marketing program by $100,000 and spent tens of thousands more hosting fundraising functions. Two new hires are chasing private donations for new facilities. "We had a lot of people counting money, but no one out raising it," Villarreal said. The Mean Green Club now brings in about $500,000 a year - paltry by Longhorn Foundation standards, but several times more than five years ago. Hiring well-known high school football coach Todd Dodge has boosted season ticket sales 40 percent. Villarreal said he hopes additional investments in basketball and football pay off, too. He has increased the men's recruiting budget for basketball and football. A new football apparel deal with Under Armour should eventually help the bottom line, although it will actually cost the department money while the Mean Green switch from New Balance gear. At the same time, he is upgrading the sports complex to convince recruits that North Texas is a place to be taken seriously. The department has built 12 new facilities in the past four years. The new athletics building has a hydrotherapy rehab room - just like the big schools - and gleaming new training and weight rooms. The new football locker room includes a players lounge with the now-standard large flat screen TVs. The foyer was finally decorated with trophies and other sports souvenirs. The school also has new softball, soccer and tennis facilities. In 2004, UNT purchased the entire campus of a private school across I-35 from it. Since then, Villarreal has been transforming the old buildings into a "new" athletic campus, Mean Green Village. A single-story schoolhouse is the new academic center (the old one was under the football stadium and leaked). The old gym was refloored and is now the women's volleyball center. A choral hall was transformed into an indoor golf practice room. The cafeteria will become the new basketball practice facility. He has bigger plans, too, should the opportunity - and money - arise. The weed-choked softball field will become an indoor practice field. A baseball stadium and track and field complex will arise from empty lawns, and luxury suites will blossom in the Super Pit, the 35-year-old basketball arena in the center of campus. (He settled last year for a renovation of the basketball locker rooms and players lounges - 60-inch TV included.) The capstone, of course, will be the new $60 million football stadium to replace the 56-year-old Fouts Field. Villarreal said he hopes to see construction under way by the end of the decade. Yet he vows not to get too caught up in the athletics arms race. "We make sure our people get everything they need - though not everything they want," he said. "There won't have to be a logo every two feet."
  6. pshh. We got a new stadium on the way!
  7. DentonRC This may have been posted already. I hope we do not lose Flax because I think he has huge potential.
  8. I agree with most of you that we should not give 3% away for using paypal. Paypal was just an example. I just want a very accessible way for all the alumni to be able to donate a little here and there for the coming year or so. I bet in about a year the money would be a huge amount. Maybe a direct link on gmg.com? I know many of you care about UNT and wive give all that you could. An account set up by gmg.com would go directly to the stadium not to all athletics. Harry/Admins PLEASE DO NOT LET THIS IDEA DIE YET ANOTHER TIME!!!!! Take some action and make it happen! I would set something up but most of you would understandably not trust a random student like me with your money. You all trust GMG.com because you know they want the best for the program. That is why I am asking Harry and the admins do act on this idea! Like I said in my original post, we the students did our part now it is your turn! Keep this thread going and everyone who is actually interested in the idea please make a post that says so. If we keep this thread going long enough by showing support I am sure Harry and the admins will not ignore the idea!!
  9. I have been told that the funding for a baseball program already exists. However, the stadium must be built first! I promise I am not making this up.... For the record, the pictures Flyer posted of a baseball stadium are real they are posted on the AD website under future facilities.
  10. Aubeurn a top tier BCS program? have you seen them play this year? They are like number 65 in the nation......
  11. Please if you are one of the alumni that posted earlier tonight that you wanted to give money to UNT post on this thread. I want to show Harry and the other admins that we are really serious about this. If you are one of the alumni that always post that they do not ask for your small time donations post on this thread. Stop talking and start making a difference!!!!
  12. I have to admit that I am one of the students that originally came to UNT because I could not get into UT. As a result I busted my butt my first year at UNT and made the grades so that I could transfer to UT starting my second year. I applied to UT and was accepted. However, I decided I did not want to leave UNT it had became more important to me than UT could have ever been. I am currently a senior and I must admit there have been many times I wanted to pack my bags and leave UNT. I did not want to leave because I disliked UNT, I wanted to leave because I was fed up with an apathetic student body that showed no interest in their school and showed no desire to improve it. It angered me that so many students were okay with accepting UNT as a "commuter school" or a small time liberal arts university. By passing the referendum the students have now proved to me that I made the right decision in stay at UNT. The significance of the vote passing is so much larger then the stadium or even the AD in general. The significance of the vote passing is about a shift from having "potential" to actually capitalizing on that potential. I am not talking about a better FB team, I am talking about building a better UNT. The attitude of students for many years has been that UNT is nothing special. So many students leave UNT to never come back, donate, or even think about thier univeristy. Remind me, how many alumni live in the DFW? I do not remember but I know it is huge. How many of those alumni actually give back to UNT? How many have come back to thier alma mater? How many of them have even thought of UNT? The overall attitude on campus that caused these alumni to not care about THIER university is changing. This is the begining of a new era for UNT. An era where students show pride in thier university. An era where students truly feel the "green" in them. I truly believe that in a few years the students will start to believe the saying "once a member of the mean green nation always a member of the mean green nation." This is just the begining folks, things are changing and I cant wait. As a student I have done my part to make this stadium get built. I have been encouraging nearly every UNT student I know to vote yes for the stadium for atleast 2 months now. Flyer and many other students have done what I have and much more (specifically flyer, thanks for eveything you have done to better UNT!). During the last few hours I have seen many posts by the alumni members of this board stating they want to contribute to the stadium now. There is a great deal of momentum going now because the stadium vote passed. Will harry or one of the other admins please set up a paypal account for a stadium fund like flyer did for the student vote campaign? This account could be left open for a couple of months and then GMG.COM as a whole could make a contribution to the stadium. Lets capitalize on the momentum we have gained from the passage of this vote! If I had more then 50$ a week of spending cash I would be right thier donating with you. Unfortanatly, I don't and thats why this school needs you the alumni to actually make a real effort and get this stadium built. I know many of you donate to UNT and I appreciate it but I know many of you do not donate anything. Many of you complain about the AD not asking for your small time donations, well this is your chance. All of your donations together could be large! We the studetns have provided all of you with something you have been wanting for many years. IT IS YOUR TURN!!!! Show your appreciation for what the students acomplished this week and bring your half of the deal. PLEASE Harry or one of you admins do not let this idea die like all the other times it has come up. Please try and capitalize on the momentum we have gained from this vote. Show the students that it is not only them that cares about the future of UNT!
  13. AUBURN!!!! I hate them more then any other school in the country. I would love to beat thier @#@# to open the stadium. My little sister is a senior in highschool and she is a national merit scholar. Many major universities are sending her stuff in the mail. Every time something from auburn comes in the mail I rip it to shreds!!!!!
  14. Seriously? I hope you do not want to go electronic like many of the profesors want. I would hate that idea.
  15. I might be able to help you out...... p.m. me later this week and we will make some arangements.......
  16. why doesn't he post anymore?
  17. IT PASSED!!!!!!!!!! 59%-41% nearly 5000 students voted
  18. Rick V is about to be on
  19. If you have known for awhile and did not tell me, I will seriously beat the crap out of you next time I see you.
  20. sounds like somebody is trying to get the news before everyone else....... Why don't you call Harry cerebus? J/K
  21. I am not going to get to excited because his blog was very vague. Additionally because it is a blog the rules change and he can post "hunches" and "rumors." but, What will you do if it ends up being true? I know I will go nuts I am not sure what I will do...................
  22. number 1 is a good option, I would feel really bad about doing number 2
  23. FilmerJ and JimmerJammer (tasty greek's brother) just called me on their way to the game. They want me to call them as soon as the stadium results are posted because they have no way of finding out. Should I make them sweat it out until they get back to the DFW or be the nice guy and just tell them?
  24. where are they going to be released at?
  25. [quote name='UNT_playmaker' date='Oct 18 2008, 12:34 PM' post='382633' I think it will pass by a slim margin but it is more probable that it didnt
