  1. I agree that Flannigan sucks as oc but come on guys, you act like we haven't sucked on offense for the last 4 years. Darrel needs to go. He is just not a good head coach. You are right, he does have a lot of capital built up from 4 consecutive bowl games but I think that our ad will look beyond those numbers and see the truth in the matter. He has not been that good over the past few years.
  2. I think that it is plainly obvious that I am no DD fan but I have to side with the folks that say you need to get over yourself on this one. The team didn't come over and acknowledge the fans after getting their ass handed to them by a technical school from Louisiana? So...just because you are a loyal fan doesn't mean that the team should come over and make a big deal that you are there. If they would play better football, I don't care if they flip you the bird on the way out of the stadium. Maybe after next weeks road game they could hand out goody bags to every UNT fan in attendance. I am just not sure what they were suppose to do to acknowledge you...Now the fact that the head coach bashes the fans in the media is a totally different thing.
  3. Cerebus- again let's not go around the point. What does the athletic center have to do with us improving on the field? People keep going back to our conference championships and I AGREE that it is great we have won the Sun Belt the last few years and maybe you are right...maybe we don't get the new AC if we don't get some exposure from being the best of the bad BUT I am talking about on the field. Here it is in a nut shell I do not think that North Texas Football has improved as a FOOTBALL program that much. We are just in a worse conference. Yes the exposure has gotten better. Yes the fan base has improved. Yes we are building more facilities. BUT here is where I disagree...I do not think that any of this is related to a "better" product on the field. I think that it is related to A) A weaker conference. Our conference winning streak (which to me has more to do with- again our weaker conference rather than our football team) and C) A valant attempt to change the culture of the university by people like Dr Pohl, RV and Bonita Jacobs.....I do not think that the university or the athletic department is on the wrong track. I do however think that our football team, the one between the lines, the one that runs the ball, that tackles and throws (sometimes) has not improved as much as we have kidded ourselves to believe. I respect your opinion on here a lot and heck it's your board- you have been around North Texas for a while....do you think that our team on the field has improved dramatically over the last few years?
  4. Yeah there was suppose to be a 'not' in there. I am pretty sure you got the point. The psychological profile was just a little playful jab. it is true though, you were trying to break down the board man! " The AC, the attendance, the preseason media coverage, and the championships are proof enough of that, regardless of how we might be performing now"...see that's the difference with me...i don't think that is proof enough. First of all the AC is related to the Athletic Department, not the football team...there goes that point. The preseason media coverage is because we have won conference championships and have national rushing leaders but we have rushing leaders and conference championships because of the crappy conference we are in, not because we are making strides in football. I agree...media coverage has increased so if you want to say that we are on track because we have received more exposure, then I would say you were right but I am talking purely football. I hope that you can find the point in this post. It's really not that hard
  5. nice try on the psychological profile of the board illuvius. it was rather interesting. here is where i think that you miss the boat though. it's not all about this year...it's about the last 4 years. i personally think that with our success in the Sun Belt, there has come some inflated belief that our programs is heading in the right direction, when in fact, i don't believe that it is. overall, from an athletics stand point, I would say 100% that we are going in the right direction and I believe in Rick V....from a football stand point, uhm that's a different story all together. Yes we have won the Sun Belt but I am still amazed by the fact that nobody answered my question that I posted 2 weeks ago on this board..if North Texas had been in the Sun Belt for 20 years, how many conference titles do you think we should have won? If you are in the camp that believes we could not have won many titles in the Sun Belt before this streak began 4 years ago and we have improved that much, then I can see why people think that the "negative" people on this board or just getting excited about nothing. These are the folks that see real progress....I on the other hand differ. I think that over the last twenty years, with the current level of competition we have in the Sun Belt, we could have won roughly half (10) of the titles. I look at the OOC games that we have played in the last few years and compare that to yester year and it seems to me that we are not improving. Once again, I will restate it- I believe that UNT FOOTBALL,not UNT ATHLETICS, is improving as much as we have tricked ourselves into believing.
  6. man where do you start? it is a never ending battle on here between the people that demand more and the people that settle for less. we suck guys. why can't we get that through our heads? i mean my gosh calvin....that was some pretty in depth research to come up with a list of excuses. bottom line: WE LOST....why is that so hard for people to understand? we should have done this....if only he woudl have done this...if the refs would have done this...Are you serious? just quit, it is ridiculous! I love UNT and will come support the team but we have a problem right now. When the house is burning you don't sit back and admire the flames.
  7. Would love to discuss with you how much I don't like DD but unfortunately I am in Cali....but if you are still up for the discussion....
  8. If DD would take less time making shots at the fans and actually take a shot down field, maybe we would have a better season.
  9. I think that this post just proves that about 90% of college fans are idiots. His post makes no sense. He says that the athletic director sucks because they have "no radio commercials, no t.v. commercials--nothing zelch" and then says that the marketing department should not be fired because god knows they have tried. You sure he is not a Mean Green fan? I have seen this kind of logic thrown around on here a lot.
  10. "What if the entire University of North Texas Athletic Department staff could post on a public forum similar to GoMeanGreen.com and judge each of our job performances on a daily basis? What if they tried to have us replaced when we are still on our company's payroll? Hmmmm?" Come on now, this is just ridiculous. I tell you who does judge my performance...my boss. Who pays their salary? O wait, that's right. Tax Payers and Alumni...I fall into both categories so I will continue to criticize them when they don't do their job.
  11. I like the idea about hiring a party planner. I would definitely do that. Of course we don't fire Darrel this year so far but 2 more SBC losses and he is out.
  12. Untlifer- Your argument could be used in the exact opposite way too. Do you think of USC, Nebraska, Georgia, Virgina Tech as basketball power houses because they have great football teams? I am talking about our "saving grace" as far as getting more alumni back to our university, building enthusiasm in our student base and making our programs an exciting legitimate D1 competition. Of course we need to strive for excellence in all sports and academics but as we all know, only a powerful men's football or basketball program will bring year around national exposure to our university and it's obvious that is a ways off in football.
  13. I had a good converstaion last night with an old college friend of mine and we were discussing the fact that basketball is probally the way into the spot light for North Texas. I believe in Johnny Jones, I love his style and it seems that he brings a sense of enthusiasm to our basketball program. Last year, before I moved to LA, I made it to a few of our men's basketball games and was impressed by the amount of young fan support that our team had. At each game there were at least 50-75 kids waiting after the game for autographs, which the team came out and happily obliged them with. I also think that it is easier to build a great program, more quickly in basketball. Of course, you have your powers every year, the Dukes of the world... but more so than in football, a powerful freshmen can make an immediate impact on a basketball team. Also NT doesn't have to deal with the constant "our facilities suck" in basketball. The Super Pit is a nice place to play and when that place is rocking, it is incredibly loud in there. So my question to you is...even though the focus has been on our football team the last few years, do you think that our basketball team is what will help take us to the next level?
  14. Texas schedule could cause them problems also. If Virgina Tech wins out and plays in a much tougher (this year) ACC, beating Miami on the road...then Texas will have played 2 ranked opponents this year. Considering Tech doesn't blow it before they play UT. I think that Georgia or V Tech also have a shot. WIth that being said, I don't think that the powers that be let UT stay out of the Rose Bowl against USC. USC v UT- I hate them both but that is a great national championship game.
  15. Everybody was talking about how USC has an easy schedule but I think that TX has a better shot at getting to the game. TX has no hard games left except Tech and USC still plays Cal, UCLA and Notre Dame.
  16. Actually it was worth something. If you remember correct, if our defense would not have let them bust open for an 8 yard run on second down, we would have at least gotten the ball back. As far as the "successful" season is concerned. I would consider it a success if we fired Dickey...
  17. Emmitt- I am glad that you have admitted that you are an apologist for DD. All I have to say is that I think that a lot of fans have really missed the big picture that a lot of us are looking at. Over the last few years, you are right...we have won 4 conference championships and we have made it to 4 straight NO Bowls but what has changed since DD has been here? OUR CONFERENCE! People need to stop comparing apples and oranges on here and start comparing apples to apples. Look at the scores against same caliber of opponents that we were playing 10 years ago as to the ones that we are playing today. What's the difference? Nothing. So here is a good question for you that I find funny nobody has ever brought up. If the Mean Green had been in the Sun Belt Conference for 20 years now, how many conference championships would we have won?
  18. I have some bad news for the DD apologist on here. It's over. The tide is turning fella's and I love it. People are expecting more out of this program than a second rate head coach and a high school offensive coordinator at best. It's good though. You can sense it with the fans. Everytime we criticize DD, you guys try to mask it that we are preaching doom and gloom, well we're not. We are saying that we expect better and Darrel is not it and has not been it for a while. Nobody is giving up on North Texas. We have just raised our expectations. So before you try to defend DD for everything he does, just realize that there has been a paradigm shift at the way North Texas fans look at football. Losing is not acceptable anymore, NO MATTER WHICH TU WE ARE PLAYING
  19. dude you are on here talking about parking tickets and intramurals. seriously, next time, post something that is relevant to football
  20. We have enough problems in our own backyard. I hate TU. For many reason. I think that they are under achievers and I also just can't stand "bandwagon" fans period. I support the same teams regardless if they win or lose. Atlanta Braves, Mavericks, Cowboys, North Texas, OU and A&M. I grew up liking these teams and will continue to like them regardless. However, I do have respect for TU. They DEMAND winning. $80 million buys the fans an opinion down there and their opinion is you either win or you get fired. I wish we had that same expectations around here. At North Texas you either win or wait til next year and maybe we will win then.
  21. and don't forget MeanGreenDork...they stole our pride last year too. Baylor is not as bad as they have been but let's not get carried away folks. Texas A&M is not what they were either. I hope Baylor can win a game in the Big 12 but 3 or 4? This is not the best year for the Big 12 but no way the Bears of BU win 2 conference games.
  22. agree about Barbara. just watch-under her the NT Exes will take off with chapters all over the country
  23. i just thought it was funny that you ask him if he knew what a sandbagger was and he posted the dictionary definition of it. it was like...we know that webster knows the definition of it, we were wanting to know if you knew the definition
  24. Greenbat- ok well call it moronic if you like. I understand that to try and insult someone instead of actually producing evidence to the contrary is very popular to people who think about as deep as a puddle of spit but let me offer you some advice that is not moronic. Always expect better. I am not sure about the other fans on this board but I am damn tired of being a second rate program. I don't want to hear anymore of these "I've been a Mean Green fan for 50 years so you don't know what suffering is" stories. I am tired of Corky Nelson stories. He didn't do shit either. It's time we start winning. Demand winning with your butt in the seat at Fouts Field. Demand it with your pocket book. Demand it by letting your athletic director know but stop making excuses. "They were bigger, faster, have more money, better at recruiting, have more tradition....." The list could go on and on. Is it just me or is anyone else on here tired of hearing it? When our recruiting class sucks, say it. When the other team is faster....say why the hell didn't we get that kid. I am just sick of these lame excuses that I hear all the time for North Texas football. We expect to lose to OOC oppoents. Until we change that mentality, nothing is going to change at North Texas. The next time we get beat by the Tulsa's of the world or even the UT's of the world...guess what? It's ok to be mad. That's called being competitive, something that we all should learn at North Texas.
  25. For anyone that is reading this board that is not from North Texas you will have to forgive some on here. We prefer to make excuses rather than demand winning. You wonder how our program has gotten to the state that it is in huh.
