Perry- the answer to that would be no. Definitely no. I think that beer sales would help us. I do not know why we don't do it. However, I am not one of those that always believe "hum athletics must not have thought about this." I am sure that there is a good reason why we don't outside of the NCAA guidelines. I don't think that the beer sales would help at UT, OU, AM or any other big school that doesn't have attendance problems. However, I think that for us it would definitely help to bring people in from the parking lot. I agree with Emitt on the personal responsibility part.

i hear ya bigrob.... the only thing that i don't understand is what exactly do we need a "rocket surgeon" to figure out??
-
i am not concerned about the game. i don't really think that the attendance is going to be a problem. well, not any more of a problem than our other conf. games. i just wonder about the attendance surrounding the events. the bonfire is the same night as the big party in the west end. A LOT of students go down there just for the atmosphere. now you die hards, i understand, will be at the bonfire but we are not trying to win you over. also, the parade is at the same time as the Red River Shootout. tell me that we won't lose a lot of folks to that.... I am not trying to knit pick at all. PERSONALLY, I could care less if homecoming falls on Super Bowl weekend. I just wish that the weekend of our homecoming was OUR weekend, not Texas-OU weekend.
-
i don't know the reasoning obviously. i do know for a fact that it is that weekend though, October 7. it makes no sense to me but there has to be a good reason for it, i would think. like i said, we use to avoid even having a home game on that weekend. i can't imagine that they didn't check.
-
I haven't been on the board in a long time so I apologize if this question has already been asked but I was planning on coming in for homecoming and noticed that it was the same weekend as the OU-TU game. Does anyone know why the university decided to make this homecoming? I didn't think that any of the area schools even played a game on that Saturday, much less homecoming.

i would just like to thank the marketing and promotions department for the large crowd since they get blamed for the small ones....winning has nothing to do with crowd size, it was all about the marketing and promotions...anybody?

I just wish that MeanMag wouldn't come on here and throw initials around. Very self-serving post MeanMag, very self-serving

i think that we did. sorry guys, no more entertainment for you. now that we all know that i am better than all of you and i am actually the chancellor....no more need to argue. i will expect in the future that all my post be treated as the supreme word of gomeangreen.com and michael shall be banned from my kingdom from "henceforth and forever more" (i wonder where i got that from)

Yeah this could be over if you didn't take all of those quotes out of context, throw them on your post (which by the way, I am flattered that you went to that extent) and then acted like this was the Lincoln-Douglas debate. Man...Paul and Brian (excuse me, I mean X and Y) are the only people that work in marketing and promotions. Any moron could go to a website and see that. It's not name dropping. It's common sense. If you are talking about marketing and promotions...you are talking about Jamie and Paul. For the record, in this open public forum, I am not trying to pick a fight with you. Here is why I am even still talking to you about this. One day you send me a pm that says " Why does most of this board have no idea how athletic departments, fundraising, tickets, promotions, or marketing works? Just curious since you seem to get it - have a great night!" and then a week later you say on the board: " He sounds like a really important guy driving the future of NT all the way from the O.C. . JK SIG, I don't know you, but I am entertained by the level of self importance in a few of your posts and your tendency to name drop that everyone else on this board seems to usually fight." Come on man...the sad thing is you sent me that PM in response to one of the quotes that you highlighted. Give me a break man. Either way, I am done with this discussion with you but try not to send me any more PM's saying one thing and then come on here and say another.

Michael man you have to forgive me but I have no idea what you are talking about. Go into names or get mad? What? You think I am mad at someone on an internet chat board? Seriously? How could someone as arrogant as me throw around names on an internet chat board...wouldn't I reserve that for more important folks? How could an arrogant person such as myself stoop beneath themselves and get mad at someone on an internet chat board? These marketing post are not the only contradictions!
-
Michael- I am not even going to go down that road with you. I am posting on an internet chat board....how cool can I really be? Anyway guys, now that I can see some of your feelings have been hurt...let me just say that all I am trying to do is bring a different perspective to some things. You guys are so quick to find easy answers to complex problems that it amazes me. When the basketball attendance is bad, then you say that the AD doesn't care and marketing is not doing it's job. When football attendance is bad then you say that the AD doesn't care and marketing is not doing it's job. But as of late, even some of you have suprised me. Now you are saying that in football, marketing does a good job but that it doesn't care about basketball. I am confused. Arguments of convience don't work for me. I just wish we could all think a little bit deeper than a puddle of water.
-
ok so let me get this straught CO.....hold Paul accountable for hiring a cheerleading coach but don't hold the cheerleaders themselves responsible for anything at all? huh now i see the problem....
-
i just find it odd that people are saying that the promotions/marketing department has a lot to do with packing the football stadium...when if you read these same people during football season...they are talking about how much the promotions and marketing suck! if they truly believe that the lack of marketing/promotions is what is keeping people away from The Pit, then I have some Enron stock to sell them.

First of all with your idiot comment, I hope that you were not talking to me. I did volunteer for the 5 years that I was at North Texas. I worked with and in the athletic department every single year. I worked every single football game and 2 seasons of basketball, AT EVERY GAME. I was also the president of my student organization, had two majors and worked 25-30 hours a week. Has anyone ever heard me say that before on this board? No! You want to know why? Because I don't feel the need to let everyone know that I volunteered and worked for my school. Unlike some of you who think that everytime you go to a game there should be a post about it. Don't try to change the way that this started E-Bone. I did not originally reply to you about the cheerleaders not showing up. As a matter of fact, I said that it is ok to criticize the cheerleaders. What upset me with you is your whole "the AD doesn't care about basketball" comments. You don't know that. You go and sit in the stands for a couple of games and you think that you know all about what is going on in the athletic department. That is what drives me crazy. You make such a far stretch from the cheerleaders do not show up to the AD doesn't care, I feel like that someone should say something on this board. I am not negative about UNT on here. Anyone that knows me would tell you that I am one of the most positive UNT fans that you will find BUT what I am negative about is "fans" that love to complain, throw out accusations and all along do nothing to help the program. So please...in your 4000 level classes, in your student organization and at work, invite people to the games and have them show up!
-
e-bone- come on man, you know you love fighting with me. everyone on this board can tell that you love to argue. you are just so negative about everything! i was pretty sure that you were going to turn your post into "the AD doesn't care about basketball" so I just figured that we would go ahead and get that one out of the way. i guess you could walk over to the marketing department and ask them why there were only 500 people there. then you COULD go sign up as a student volunteer but you won't do either one because it would actually require some work, not just typing on an internet message board. CO Green- I don't know anything about the new cheerleading coach. They might be absolutely horrible and I won't even pretend to know the situation. If all of our cheerleaders are quitting because of her then maybe she should be fired. Like I said, I don't know but do you guys cheer for the coach or for UNT?
-
then be sure to walk over the marketing and promotions department and blame them for the cheerleaders not being there...
-
ok this does look bad for the Sun Belt but damn that is hillarious.....so let me get this straight........two people on the same team get into a fight, obviously can't be controlled by other players, the bus driver has to pull over and get a police officer and then the starting linebacker gets arrested for hitting that cop......WOW- i don't think i have ever heard of that one
-
man i had this long response thought out but it would be just wasting my time and considering I don't read long post on this board, i wouldn't expect anyone to read mine. this board is so frustrating because 99% of the people think that they know what they are talking about 100% of the time when the truth is they have no clue what goes on but hey it's an internet message board so who cares right? Go Mean Green.... Eagle- this probally comes as a shock to you but i am just not going to argue on this one! don't have a heart attack!
-
no the cheerleaders do not get scholarships. what you also may not notice is that the dancers rotate every game. those are not the same dancers out there that you see at the previous game. don't get me wrong, i think that the dancers do a bad ass job but when you have a squad that large, it is a lot easier to break up who goes to what game compared to having a squad the size of our cheerleaders and trying to break up the games. as far as other schools go...at a lot of other colleges have seperate squads for football than they do for basketball. i just don't think that you understand what it takes to "create" atmosphere at a basketball game when you don't have any fans in the stand and especially no students in the stand. there has been so many ideas thrown around for baskeball but it's a struggle to come up with something that really works when you don't have the student fans there. last year, the pit crew tried to do tailgating before one of the home basketball games but you can't have alcohol because of university rules. they had a stage and the whole 9 yards and the turn out for the event was not good at all. bottom line for me....the athletic department does care about basketball. it makes me mad when someone comes on here and says that they don't care. compared to other D1 schools, we have a small athletic department and they work there butt off. i mean heck they don't even hardly have student workers over there. i challenge you e-bone....since you are concerned about there level of commitment to the basketball program, call Paul or Jamie and VOLUNTEER your time to try and help the athletic department with basketball. they woud love the help. i'm fine with the criticism but don't say they don't care
-
No, actually I think that the AD does care if the cheerleaders or Scrappy shows up to the game. I just wish that before you started throwing accusations out there, you would be more informed about the way things work. First of all, Eagle and Michael are both right. There is a gentleman (Scotty, I believe) who is one of the cheerleading coaches and the lady that is over the cheerleaders is Jenifer Cloutier. Jenifer reports directly to the Director of Marketing, Paul Batchelder but Scotty, Jenifer and Paul could talk to the cheerleaders til they are blue in the face but they have no control over them in the end. Why? Because the cheerleaders are unique in that they are stricly volunteers (this goes for Scrappy too). There major does not require them to be in cheerleading (like music), they receive no scholarships and they certainly do not receive any money....so tell me exactly what you want RV to do? I appreciate the hard work that those guys and girls put in. I also believe that it is ok to criticize and say that it takes away from the game when they are not there but to reach as far as you did and make the assertion that the AD doesn't care about basketball because you didn't see some cheerleaders at a game is absurd. I haven't seen you out there in a suit with some pom pom's...do you care?
-
ebone- how do you go from the cheerleaders didn't show up to the AD doesn't care about basketball? you're reaching man
-
holy s***.....that was funniest post that i have ever read
