also, do you really believe the DD would step down before RV or the BOR does it? if you quit your job, you don't get severance. if you are fired, you do. DD will either be "reassigned" or he will reach an agreement for less money to be bought out. if he didn't, it would ruin his career. being the director of PE is not exactly a bright spot on a coaches resume. oh and for the record, I think that we need a good D1 defensive or offensive coordinator for the program. RV is already working on names.....

unfortunately, i think that USC is our last chance of having a "good" national title game. they have to win out. West Virgina and Louisville are ranked 5&6 respectively, right now. Ahead of them you have OSU, USC, Michigan and Auburn. OSU and Michigan will elimate each other. West Virgina and Louisville are not ahead of Auburn right now because of their SOC. HOWEVER, Louisville and West Virgina still play each other. #5 vs #6.... that will strengthen their schedule and whoever wins that game will leap Auburn. The way I see it.... the only way for a 1 loss team to have a chance is 1) both WV and Louisville have 1 loss at the end of the year (doubtful) 2. the loser of the WV/Louisville game also loses one more game and causes the other teams strength of schedule to drop. If either WV/Louisville ends the year undefeated and the other team only has 1 loss(to each other).... I think that there is no way that they stay out of the national championship game IF USC loses a game

well after last weeks game against FIU, many of you said that with programs like UNT and FIU that ANY publicity is good publicity.... is this good publicity for FIU? I mean, the whole country IS talking about them today!

i am in favor of the schedule because it at least allows us to build a program and put together some wins. it would be great to bring SMU or TCU in here as a regional rivalry and I guarantee you that we tried. Sometimes we forget that there are people who believe it or not have been around these sports longer than we have and know what they are doing. With TCU and SMU not on our schedule tells me that it is because of something that THEY did not want to do, not us. We are not in a position to turn them down. Let's build some momentum with this schedule. If this team gets out to an incredible record, the momentum will start to build!! You might not have many students at the first couple of home games but once you reach a 12-1 or a 14-2, you will see a high level of excitement for basketball at NORTH TEXAS

No Chris, I was not at the game. I live in California so sorry, I was unable to attend. However, I didn't miss a home game for four years and I saw some games that warranted fans "rushing" the field. Games were we did things like make our first bowl game and winning conference championships. If I was there or not for this paticular showing against an 0-5 team, I don't think that it has any effect on my opinion about "rushing" the field. It makes us look like amateurs man. Also, I know that you are new to North Texas and to the board. A lot of folks on here just go after someone personally when they can't think of anything else to say and I hope that you don't start doing that. This thread is about football and paticuarly how we should react to this kind of win. That is why I won't even dignify your "try showing up to a game...." sentence. I think it is great for people to disagree but let's not try to turn this thread into a measuring contest.......

personally, i love the schedule. yeah it is easy but we are trying to build a program here. we don't go play Duke at Duke and expect to build from the ground up. i wish that our football team could grow this way but unfortunately because of Title IX, that won't happen

look some of this is pathetic. i am happy that we won. like i said earlier, i would NEVER root against UNT. ever. it's great to be happy that we won but excited? fans "rushing the field"? give me a break. some of you come on here and throw things like that around when we just took 7 OVERTIMES to beat an 0-5 team and you really expect people not to think that you have low expectations? yeah there may have been some people on this board expecting us to lose to an 0-5 team too. that's also pathetic. have some honest to god expectations of this program. texas should have whooped our a**, they did. we should have beat SMU, we did and WE EXCEEDED expectations by beating them as bad as we did... that was a great win for us. we should have made it a game with Tulsa, they killed us. we should played it close against Akron, we didn't. Middle TN should have been anybodies game. they beat us by 35 and again for the 3rd game in a row we played far below expectations. we should have beat FIU and we did but we shouldn't have taken 7 overtimes. we played below expectations for the 4th time in 4 games. that's all there is to it. be happy with the win, hope that it gains us some momentum and let's hope we go on a roll. however it was nothing to be excited about or "rush the field" about, that's just a joke....

yeah and if you want to compare A&M to UNT please do your research. The first 3 home games of the season, A&M COULD NOT fill the place up. Bil Burns, their AD, wouldn't even let A&M games be shown on pay per view because they were not filling the stands. So let's think about it...... they were playing no name opponents and they have NO confidence in the coach and they couldn't get people in the stands... sound vaguely familiar huh? let's not always blame NORTH TEXAS fans, some things are universal.

Woody Wilson is by no means Vince Young BUT he is a Vince Young type quarterback. Young was only able to excel in UT's system when Mack Brown stopped trying to run VY through the offense but instead started running the offense through VY. Maybe that is what needs to happen at North Texas. We keep doing the same thing expecting different results. We have to adjust to the guys that we have.

i wasn't expecting DD to be fired this week. i have been disappointed though that RF hasn't been fired. it's like nobody has to answer around here..... they keep saying well the o-line sucks. ok well fire the offensive line coach. do something... as fans we need to see that something is being done! that "something" though is not starting Meager at qb

By saying "we used to lose every OOC game" it's like you are implying that we win them now. I think we all know that is not true. 2. You pretty much sum of the differences that the folks on this board have here with this one statement. Doing what we have always done is not good enough. Go to work tomorrow and tell your boss that you are going to be the same employee that you were five years ago and see how long that last.

Are you happy where you are at or do you want to keep going? To each their own but for me, you either see DD turning a corner and taking this team to another level or you don't. I don't. I haven't. He might be a good coach in the Sun Belt and although I realize that the argument posted was that we need to accept where we are at and who we are, I simply don't agree. Where else in life do you apply that philosophy? It's absolutely ridiculous. We are who we are? Don't expect us to get better and don't expect us to get worse, just stay where we are at. It's where we have been at for the last 5 years. Again, I respect DD for what he has done with the program. In the last few years, this team has brought a lot of pride back to North Texas BUT we can't live in the past forever. At some point, we have to take that next step. If DD is going to be gone at the end of the season, then we have to lose a lot of conference games. I hope we win the next 8 in a row....

i just don't understand. you guys wonder why our program won't be more successful? i mean our fans think that there are "positives" in a 20 point loss. you can find positives in a 20 point loss to UT, OU or LSU all you want but don't start this crap when we lose by 20 to Akron. I mean what the hell is a Zip anyway? our offense was pathetic. our defense was pathetic. our special teams was pathetic. but that's ok to some. it was a moral victory. yay! I can't wait to line up and get my tickets for this years Moral Bowl.

first- I like this Chris guy. welcome.... i have enjoyed all of your post. I agree with e-bone, I am not sure how it relates that Phillips would be a better QB if he had more time in the pocket. It is not like Wilson has been inaccurate. So he has done well in practice? It's like being a pre-season star in the NFL. nobody cares. I enjoyed reading the post today regarding the 3-3-5 defense that Tulsa will be running. that's real football talk. the thing about DD that drives me crazy is that he gives us any reason to even have this converstaion about Phillips and Wilson. it's over. let it go. let's move on. Woody is obviously better. Phillips did good against SMU?? He didn't up any points in a half. How great is that? Seriously, does everyone get a participation trophy from DD like we are playing little league again? agree completely. this whole "woe is me" bullsh** coming from Highland Park is ridiculous. The last few years, North Texas has been far above SMU as a football program. We should have expected to whip their collective arses on Saturday. I am not sure why people are suprised (beside the fact that we always have low expectations in Denton). Great we beat SMU. I am happy for us but SMU ranks somwhere right around tough Sun Belt schools. We should be excited about beating them but let's not get carried away about the win either. LA Tech and Tulsa will be MUCH more of a measuring stick for us than SMU. As far as measuring our team, this COMING SATURDAY will tell us much more about our team than this PAST SATURDAY

it's really kinda sad. i wanted to join the mean green premium account so bad to be able to watch the games BUT I figured that it probally would not work and of course for many, it didn't.
