This board is so funny sometimes....
UNTSIG replied to GoMeanGreen1999's topic in Mean Green Football
You folks that keep talking about the young qb, I think that (unfortunately) we are once again being apologistic Mean Green fans. Let's say that this is a "fluke" year and those other great teams are behind us that were full of experience. Let's look at the past 3 years OOC record one more time where everyone can be on board. NOT COUNTING THIS YEAR....we have a 3-14 record against OOC opponents (4-13 if you count Troy because I believe that when we played them 2 years ago they were not in our conference) We lost to teams such as the mighty somethings of FAU, Baylor, Air Force, TCU and South Florida just to name a few. Where was our "youth and inexperience" problems then? We have an excuse year after year. Why is it so wrong to demand more? Maybe we should also stop the "North Texas fans suck" bandwagon and think of this.... Did anybody notice that the movie industry was down this summer? Nobody was going to the movies. Why? The movies sucked. Think about it. -

I think that the bar has been raised '99. Great we win conference like the last 4 years. This isn't progress.... -
In "rebuilding" years, aren't you suppose to do worse than what you did in non "rebuilding" years? So far we have beat a Sun Belt team and lost badly to a OOC team...I don't see the difference. Sounds like the last 4 years to me
-
Here's my problem....I think that there has been signifigant improvements in the last few years with North Texas Athletics in general. With the facility upgrades, better recruiting and I think a better all outlook for the future of the program. However, I think that one true way to measure how far we have come as a football program is by how well we compete against out of conference opponents. Why OOC? Because the level of competition in that has not changed. Changing to the Belt is what's changed. We get blown out. Against Baylor? Tulsa? - I can understand getting killed by UT, OU (of the past), and other "major" programs but I think that we have tricked ourselves into thinking that we are better than we are or that we are in a better position than what we really are. Everyone of us considers us a "mid major" but the truth is, we can't beat teams that are not even considered good "mid majors." i.e. FAU, Baylor, Air Force...since 2002 we have won 3 games against OOC opponents, we have played 16. We beat Baylor, Nicholls St and Cincinatti. There is a difference between being negative and being a realist who expects more from your school. If we want to be a big time program, we (as fans) need to react to 50 point losses against Tulsa (?) as such. What is the measuring stick now? Are we content with just winning the Sun Belt every year? I just think that the benchmark needs to change and we should start expecting more

22,000 NT/TU Tickets Already Sold Says One Source
UNTSIG replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
i won't be there but then again neither will 22,000 -
I agree that we don't always do the absolute best job at marketing but to blame it on the marketing department is unfair, in my opinion. They have tried every avenue possible, reaching out to the freshmen, going to the student groups, making partnerships with the local apartments, going to elementary schools, partnering football players up with student leaders, t.v., paper, radio and all for an average attendance increase of 2,000 maybe and vast majority of that can be attributed to a better football team. I really thought that over the last few years our change in orientation would make a huge difference but unfortunately it hasn't. Don't get me wrong, our orientation is amazing now thanks to Dr Jacobs and her staff and we have some very proud and spirited freshmen coming out of orientation, the problem though is freshmen are easily influenced and once they start going to class, hanging out with upper classmen and realize that it's not "cool" to go to the athletic events, suddenly they don't care anymore. That is why I think we need something "major" to get our attendance going, like a win at K-State. I think our athletic department realizes that. You will see them try to keep the connections up that they have made but they realize that we have to have something significant to happen, that's why you don't see an influx of money into the mktg budget. I hope that it changes but like many of you, I have worked hard over the last few years to market NT athletics but you have to be a realist. Obviously, I am speaking in general terms here. Overall! If you reply, please don't give me an example of these 2 freshmen that are crazy about UNT. I mean obviously ALL freshmen are not like this but most are!

Go Tech...o wait, we're North Texas...my bad
-
If you are expecting us to have more than 20,000 against Tulsa, then go ahead and get prepared to be disappointed. We will not have it. I wish it wasn't the case but after seeing how it works and hearing the same forecast for "walk up" crowds for the last 5 years now, I'm telling you we won't have more than 20,000. We just have to realize that people are not getting as excited about NT football anymore UNTIL we win an out of conference game against a "name" opponent. If we came back from KSU with a win under our belt, then yes we will start drawing good numbers but not til then.

no we don't...i love that he made the team but i will never cheer for the giants...i don't care if my son plays for them one day. eagles, giants or redskins, hell no

I have to agree with Emmitt...if this Hurricane hits New Orleans the way that they think it might, the least of our concern should be football games. As a city that the Mean Green has come to love over the last 3 years, we all need to be praying for the people of New Orleans and the surrounding cities. The restraunts we ate at, the people who served you a beer at the game. They are all fleeing for their lives right now and I just hope against hope that everything turns out as best it can. I don't normally follow these Hurricanes because they usually make these predictions and then it turns out to not be that bad but I have never seen them talk about one like this. Let's just hope that they are wrong..........

Nice post. Most people do look down on UNT fan's. I don't think it would be suprising to anyone else on this board that we get that sentiment from UT, Texas AM or OU that we are not "real" college football. It frustrates us all but there will come a day....
-
I also wanted to post that I think Dr Pohl is an amazing person who has done incredible things for this university. It would be hard to find someone that does not like him or commend him on the job that he has done at North Texas. I had the opportunity to work in the President's office for 1 1/2 years with Dr Pohl and from a personal stand point, I am sad because our university is losing a great man. I will say though that I hope everyone is involved in the selection of our new president....students, alumni, athletics, academics.....It is a critical time for North Texas and we need to make sure that all of our voices are heard. RV, please don't leave!

It is official.......our fans will complain about EVERYTHING. Andre, are you serious? To put down a group of students who are trying to bring more spirit to our athletic program while you observe from the back row is not only irresponsible but ridiculous. Put up or shut up
-
I guess we should talk about the football helmet design then huh
-
One quick question to you that are tired of this thread. Why? It's a football board and we are debating the starting quarterback. JW

I have to totally agree with MGT. If you have kids, please respond to this......Do you want your kids to listen to Howard Stern? Do you want your kids to watch some of the things that come on MTV or late night on 'E'? I think the answer is no. It is easy to say well turn the channel but that is a simplistic thought for a complex problem. Do you really think that it is that easy? Should parents have to worry that when there kids are listening to the radio that they will stumble across someone like Howard Stern using the 'F' word every other sentence and talking about women the way that he does? There should be limits to freedom and there always has been! Some of you act like this is a new concept. If you go to a game at Fouts Field and there is someone in front of you that is drunk and using a cuss word for every other phrase and you have your little boy or girl with you and ask him to stop and they turn around and tell you that YOU should cover their ears or not bring them there, I believe you would be pissed. It is a family enviroment, they don't check i.d.'s at the gate. The same as when I am a dad and I am watching the Super Bowl with my kid, I don't want him to see Janet Jackson's breast on the t.v. and when I go to bed I don't want them seeing Howard Stern and you are trying to tell me that is my fault because I should turn it off or I should have more control over my kid? Let's be real about this. HOWEVER I do agree with you about ClearChannel. It is a monopoly and it is not right. I am a Republican and I will vote for GW again because I believe in what he is trying to do. Democrats and Republicans BOTH limit of freedom, it just depends which one pisses you off more.

I got the opportunity to go see Mel Gibson's new movie "The Passion of the Christ" last night and it was absolutely amazing. I encourage all of you to go see this movie. To me, it was not overhyped. It is violent and I wouldn't suggest taking small children because it is very realistic. If you have seen the movie let me know what you think of it.

I think the Simpsons is one of the greatest shows ever. I caught your Homer reference and just to let you know Zeke, you made me smile! haha That is why I called your line the "classic".....Thank you for being funny.

Yeah I guess you are all right. I am so dumb. I should never be able to post on this message board again with all of you geniuses. I am inferior to all of you. Thank you for showing me the err of my way with intriguing comments like "And God spoke and made UNTSIG's opinion a fact. Wait, that never happened. And no one cares about your opinion either" or how about this classic... "I am intrigued by your knowledge and would like to subscribe to your newsletter. " The best though to show how intellectually superior you are all to me is "Just remember UNTSIG, you aren't dumb or slow, you just have obstacles to overcome that others don't. " YES- this is so exciting. I can not wait to read what you all think about solutions to 3rd world hunger. I will just go back to being stupid and leave all the thinking to you intellects. I would just like to say thank you for knowledge. I am truly appreciative of all of you. Hugs and Kisses PS- To all you MORONS that obviously don't understand sarcasm, I was just joking! Lighten up, my post is not going to get rid of basketball. Obviously Zeke understood I was joking, jgb was obviously going along with it. What the hell ironman was thinking with his in depth analysis, I don't know. Using words like transition and strategy, slow down- don't hurt yourself.
-
I would just like to add that basketball is inferior to football. Thanks!

Who cares?

yes- we need the media attention
