Halftime incident w/the coaching staff
DeepGreen replied to vpackrats's topic in Mean Green Football
Probably will have to ask for the BOR's permission to do that. -
I'm proud that the Soccer Chicks may win another SBC championship. I truly mean that. But to me, watching a soccer match is like watching paint dry.

Just tell them that if they want your $10,000,000 given to North Texas after you die then they better keep the athletic program a high priority with their hire.

Stan, I just PM'd you. Thanks!

I'm in need of one ticket for the ULM game on November 19. Three of us are coming up to the game and I'm short a ticket. I would prefer to have the ticket located somewhere in Section E if at all possible.

Huh? The LSU QB's could have boiled a pot of water back there they had so much time.

Excluding this season which is incomplete, since 2001 we have averaged roughly 260-265 total on offense. That won't win many OOC games.

DMN UCF underclassmen help go from 0 wins to tie
DeepGreen replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Correction. UCF is not a BCS team. They are in Conference USA. Also, don't forgot who their QB was in the early years - Dante Culpepper. -
What happened to the Thursday night chat during game week? Are there not some things we need to disCuss?

Ever get the feeling that the ACLU and it's "goons" are the ones really making policy and running this country?

Invite still open for those coming to LSU
DeepGreen replied to Crip*TeamKATT's topic in Mean Green Football
Those are good reasons to throw a bottle through a bus window, possibly causing injury to someone inside. No to mention the anxiety the people inside the bus must have felt, watching an LSU mob surround them. And I doubt there were any arrests made. Right? -
I have to weigh in on this. The Sun Belt is not exactly the "premier" conference in the country, but it's the conference we are now affiliated with. Do I want to move up to a better conference? You bet. But there are no other conferences that have openings that we could join. And Independent is not an option! The WAC is not where we need to be. Is it better than the SBC? Sure. But just like the Big West days, we can't afford the travel. I'd rather take the travel money savings and pay it to the assistant coaches who are keepers. The Mountain West? Only if they are desparately looking for a travel partner for TCU. Otherwise, we are not worthy. Yet. CUSA has no openings that I know of. So what we have to do is make the best of the SBC. As someone else pointed out, North Texas needs to build our fan base so that we can average 25-30,000 at our home games, REGARDLESS OF OUR RECORD OR WHETHER OR NOT WE AGREE ON THE CURRENT COACHING SITUATION. People, we have to show these other conferences that we support North Texas football, PERIOD! Only then will another conference will come calling.

Two TV's? O.K. Pop, I was being a wise guy. Let me know where ya'll will be watching the game and I may just drive over to Houston.

Playing an away game against the #7 rated team in the country, in one of the toughest venues to play in with a hostile crowd (hostile may be too kind), with NT having arguably one of the worst offenses in D1A football, I predict , LSU 80+ North Texas 3

Before the linemen came out for warmups, did anyone else notice that most of our players that were out on the field were just standing around, looking at the Louisiana Tech team go through their warmups. Were they supposed to be in awe or something? As I recall, no coaches were present either. This went on for 5-10 minutes, or at least until the linemen came out. Never have I witnessed something like this before. Our guys are always going through there warmup routines. It's like they were on strike for a period of time.

Tech trounces North Texas October 23, 2005 By Jimmy Watson jimwatson@gannett.com RUSTON -- Louisiana Tech continued the WAC's dominance over perennial Sun Belt champion North Texas on Saturday afternoon in Joe Aillet Stadium with a ho-hum 40-14 victory over the Mean Green. North Texas has won four consecutive Sun Belt crowns and is 27-2 in the league since 2001. But the Mean Green is now 34-74-2 against WAC teams, although their overall record with Tech now sits at 5-5. "If you look at what the WAC has done against other teams versus what the Sun Belt has done, there's no comparison," Tech coach Jack Bicknell said. "I don't know if this one game says much about the WAC against the Sun Belt, but there are a lot of good teams in the WAC." Except for a brief letdown midway through the third quarter, when the Bulldogs (3-3, 2-1) gave up two quick scores to the visitors, Tech dominated this game in much the same way it did against previous home foes New Mexico State and Hawaii. Tech was also flawless for the third game in its last four with no interceptions and no fumbles. Tech's only giveaway in four games was a Matt Kubik interception by Nevada last week at the Wolf Pack 2-yard line. "Matt keeps getting better and he managed the game well today," Bicknell said. "We played very good defense again today, except for those two series in the third quarter." The Bulldogs didn't score on their first possession of the game, but got points on every other drive in the first half in building a 27-0 lead. Tech's first score came on a 3-yard Freddie Franklin run, and Kubik followed that with a 17-yard touchdown pass to tight end Anthony James. Tech moved in front 21-0 with 7 minutes remaining in the half when freshman Patrick Jackson scored from 1 yard out. Danny Horwedel then nailed field goals of 46 and 37 yards to complete the first-half scoring. Horwedel hit again from 39 yards away on Tech's first series of the second half before the Mean Green got a 15-yard scoring pass from Daniel Heager. Running back Patrick Cobbs then found a wide open Johnny Quinn for a 33-yard score to cut Tech's lead to 30-14 with just over 4 minutes remaining in the third quarter. "We came out of the locker room and were comfortable with a big lead and we can't do that down the stretch," Tech linebacker Jeremy Hamilton said. "We made some mistakes and let them back in the game." In front of 19,481 fans, the Bulldogs' defense shut the door on North Texas after that, while getting a 29-yard field goal from Horwedel and a late 6-yard touchdown run from Jackson. "What we wanted to do was to set the tempo early and take them out of their game," Tech quarterback Matt Kubik said. "When you see a team put up two quick scores in the second half, you get a little nervous. But our team has shown that it can respond quickly." Tech rolled up 510 total yards, while limiting the Mean Green to just 287. Kubik was an efficient 23-of-30 for 283 yards with no interceptions. Franklin led Tech's rushing attack with 83 yards, while Kubik ran for 54 and Jackson added 44. North Texas' dynamic running duo of Patrick Cobbs and Jamario Thomas picked up 108 and 64 yards respectively. But Meager passed for just 60 yards and his backup, Matt Phillips was picked off twice. One of the picks came by Tech's Tramon Williams, who leads the WAC in interceptions. "I knew that they had to throw deep, so I just stayed with my man," Williams said. "The quarterback just threw it up, so I played the ball."

Has North Texas killed it's CUSA appeal with this
DeepGreen replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
I would hate for Tulane to abandon football. Lot of tradition there. -
And that was not a very good Louisiana Tech team. We were just that bad on both sides of the ball. Their offensive line pretty much manhandled our defense. I know that Matt Phillips threw for two interceptions, but with some repetitive game experience, he could be a good one. Even this year. He sure throws a nice pass. I'm sorry but Meager one get it done. Put him as another wide receiver. And for goodness sakes, let's recruit some larger offensive and defensive linemen. Gosh most of our guys played hard, but are just two small in stature.

On a positive note...Joe Alliett Stadium...
DeepGreen replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
If all we apsire to is a stadium like La Tech's Joe Alliett, then I think I'll keep my money. Close to the field, yes. And that's it. As for as the game presentation and college game atmosphere, I thought I was watch a high school game at Lamar University. Aside from a piss poor football game, that place is nothing to brag about. One thing that would help is a Jumbotron. And if there were 19,000+ fans at that game I'll kiss someone's arse! No way in hell there were that many people there. Good student turnout though for Tech. Tailgating looked to be some serious stuff. -
Will/Should DD get another contract extension
DeepGreen replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Radio, I think this was cussed and discussed on this board and Harry's old board back in 2000, 2001, and 2003 when the season started so badly for us. Somewhere in there was the first contract extension, OOC debates, and fan DD's attitude. The another contract extention recently. This talk is nothing new. -
Hmmmmm, you've done better. Stick to police work.
