Joe Hawthorne and Royce Hill Rivals

From what I have seen, he had to fight double and triple teams most of the year to get what he got. Troy is the prospect that I am most excited about seeing on campus regardless of whether it's OL or DL

I couldn't find anything online yet, but in the paper this morning it says that Tomlin decommited because he realized how important education is. He basically said that he is concerned about getting hurt and that if football was not an option he wouldn't pick NT. He is now looking at Vanderbilt. NT is no Vandy, but as a 24 year old in the business world my MBA from NT has held its weight and is paying off for me.

From Vito's Blog: Word is Todd Dodge is taking a side trip to Mississippi to visit a recruit or two after taking his son Riley to Birmingham, Ala., for shoulder surgery this week. Here is my somewhat factually based guess on what Dodge is up to -- making a final sales pitch to defensive end Anthony Barnes and offensive lineman Edward Prince of Wesson (Miss.) Copiah-Lincoln Community College and possibly defensive end Jack Hayes of Perkinston (Miss.) Gulf Coast Community College. UNT has offers out to Barnes and Prince. Barnes visited UNT in late November and is a player the Mean Green appears to have a good chance at landing. Prince might be a bit of a long shot considering he has offers from Kansas State and Oklahoma State and is set to visit both schools in January. Hayes could be a secondary plan if Barnes goes elsewhere, but has an offer from Troy, which has a lot more to sell at this point coming off yet another winning season. UNT also saw two recruits it offered scholarships elect to play elsewhere Wednesday in center Emmanuel Aluko and defensive tackle Chris Asumnu of Alief Elsik. Both committed to Tulane. UNT is set to host a new batch of recruits this weekend, but I have yet to hear who might be in Denton with this group. In another interesting note, Sports Illustrated dedicated its Inside College Basketball page to New Orleans this week. Noted UNT killer Bo McCalebb is featured prominently in the story and there is also a photo of him on the page. UNO upset nationally ranked North Carolina State earlier this season and appears to be getting back on track after Hurricane Katrina under new head coach Joe Pasternack, a New Orleans native. The story is good publicity for the Sun Belt. Be sure to check it out if you have a chance. I would also like to hear from all our loyal blog readers. Post the No. 1 recruiting target left on your wish list for UNT. My suggestion is Jacquies Smith, a defensive end from South Oak Cliff who appears to be a lock to go to Missouri or Michigan State. UNT needs some playmakers on defense, which after last season’s performance and the loss of players like Aaron Weathers and Jeremiah Chapman is a little like saying the Pope is Catholic.

DRC Story Cedar Hill quarterback James Hamilton and Richardson Lake Highlands safety John Shorter had plenty of options when it came time to decide where they wanted to play college football. In the end, none of those options were quite as appealing as staying close to home and playing for North Texas. Hamilton and Shorter visited UNT over the weekend and orally committed to become a part of the Mean Green's 2008 recruiting class after taking a night to finalize their decisions. Oral commitments are non-binding. The first day a recruit in the Class of 2008 can sign national letter of intent is Feb. 6. "I liked the location of the school, the coaches and the players treated me really well on my visit," Hamilton said. "North Texas is close to home, which helped a lot. I wanted to be somewhere where my family could come see me play and I can go home. I am close with my family." Hamilton (5-10, 180) rushed for 1,921 yards and 22 touchdowns and in addition to throwing for 1,021 yards and 12 touchdowns on the season. He was a first-team selection as a quarterback on the All-District 8-5A team and is also No. 53 on The Dallas Morning News' Area Top 100 list. Hamilton is projected to play safety for the Mean Green, a position he hasn't played in several years. "I was a regular at safety my freshman year," Hamilton said. "I love playing defense and bringing energy to the field." Hamilton was offered scholarships by Kentucky, Tulsa, Rice, SMU, UTEP, Washington State and Louisiana-Lafayette. Shorter was an All-District 9-5A selection last season and had offers from SMU, Tulsa and Iowa State. Middle Tennessee also showed interest. Shorter is listed at No. 85 on the Morning-News' Area Top 100. "I think it will be a good place for me because it is a family environment," Shorter said. "The coaches treat their players with respect and it is close to home. My parents visited with me over the weekend and loved it." The addition of Hamilton and Shorter gives UNT 16 oral commitments for its 2008 class, including seven players projected to play on defense, where the Mean Green struggled last season. UNT finished last nationally with an average of 45.1 points allowed per game last season. Hamilton said deciding what school to attend was a tough one. "I have tremendous respect for the coaches from all the schools that recruited me," Hamilton said. "I had a good relationship with all of them." In the end it was a chance to build their relationships with the UNT coaches while staying close to home that put the Mean Green over the top with Hamilton and Shorter. I saw this kid play earlier this year and I was hoping that we would get him. Now it looks like we will be stacked at the safety position.

Rivals is showing Eloy Atkinson as a UTEP commit now, so Hill is actually #14.

It was good to get to meet SUMG, Green Grenade, Green Joe, Corinth Eagle, and Adler. I was glad that so many people at the show tonight. As a fan and alum, nothing makes me prouder than to see fans stand behind their team through the tough times. Dodge said that these kids will be rewarded for their hard work and I know that some good things are ahead of us. See you on Saturday. Go Mean Green!!!

Dodge just said it. Has anyone else heard this?

Wasn't Cody Spencer from Southlake/Grapevine?

Micah Mosely was amazing and if you were going to put together a highlight reel, the hit of the night belongs to Tobe Nwigwe. He drilled some guy on a kick off and left him checking for his teeth.
