  1. Wait, is this about Tune and the Ohio game?
  2. Agreed. And, I know the guy is trying to give some perspective to just how impressive LD's start is this season, but in some ways I hope he doesn't become the next Jamario. You know, a potentially brilliant career (college and NFL) for a great student-athelete limited by lingering injuries.
  3. As much as they improved after halftime, I would actually assume that he suited up, got on the field, and went Eric 'Samorai' Hansen on WKY (old school Necessary Roughness reference there).
  4. Defense?... We don't need no... stinkin' defense! ughhh. This is a beat-down to listen to.
  5. Well, when I attended, it stood for Two Women United. But that's a whole other can of worms.
  6. EIM. You're both right actually. He is clearly referring to the football-aspect of the 'college town' environment. And Denton/UNT did not have that in my time there. Now, what it did have, as you and some others have pointed out, is the creative/experimental aspect of the college experience to the Nth degree. This is what I loved about it. But, at least in the 90s, most people didn't give a flip about the football environment and the concomitant aspects of pride and loyalty that come with those. This is why the occasional pot-shot made on this board about music/art majors dragging the school down don't bother me. Those types of students don't drag down the school, at all. I've been in lots of situations out here and on the East coast where people knew all about UNT exactly because of the strengths of those programs. However, for the most part, those students are not going to come out for a winning or losing football product. And what they do not understand/care about is how excellence in those areas enhance other parts of the University image. A rising tide raises all boats. There is room in Denton for both types of the traditional college experience. More school pride, even from lackadaisical fence sitters, would result in better giving back to the University, a larger General Fund, and, god-forbid, maybe a few more art scholarships. From the few times I've been to a game in the last couple years, things are definitely headed in the right direction, and far advanced from when I was a student. Now, a few close wins here and there against good competition, with the occasional butt-stomping domination game against a hated rival, and there are all the components to get something going in Denton like they have in other places. I wouldn't mind seeing that at all when I come back for a game. Then again, I'll still make time to visit whatever is left of Fry Street while there.
  7. It was finger Ling Ling good!
  8. More to the point: Have we solved the mystery of where Turducken originated? Dang, gotta give Louisiana some credit then.
  9. I have been to this campus and said swamp. It should be noted that there is (or at least was about 10 years ago) a sign posted there that said "Do not shoot the ducks." To extend the Simpson quoting meme from another thread: Homer: "See? Because of me, now they have a warning."
  10. Probably not as bad as mine. One should never mock His Chuckness. In my defense, I've been waging a one-man internet campaign to get Mr. T (re)cast as BA Baracus in the upcoming A Team movie. He is not too old; he still has it; pittying, meet fools. I thought the tender embrace of His Chuckness could have put T over the top. Looks like I lost in my crusade.
  11. Attending a music/arts rich school with a great history and nationally-prominent alumni: GOOD Attending butt-cold, rainy football games cause you just love that school and the players that put themselves on the line for its rocky but intriguing tradition: GREAT Attending football games with your significant other because, although she can't get why you care so much, she gets you and wants to be there for you: PRICELESS [i'm married to an OU alum. She honestly cannot understand the passion for NT football I have. A quote: "You have two degrees in art/literature, why do you give a rat's a** about football?" But, Gawd Bless Her, every game we can make or see on TV, she's yelling louder and cursing more than me cause she sees how much it matters to me. The Western Kentucky game last year; for the life of her, she couldn't understand why I was so stressed during it since she had never heard of them. But, when Tobe Nwigwe intercepted that pass and ran it back, the neighbors thought she was beating me to death in the house from all the shouting. You're a lucky man.]
  12. To slightly jump across animated sitcom platforms here: Fry: All this time we thought he was a powerful super-being, yet he was just a child... Melllvar's Mother: He is not a child. He is THIRTY-FOUR!
  13. Wow. Talk about a missed opportunity. Had a certain recent SGA vote gone differently, we could have guaranteed an annual Homecoming game with A&M. Well, at least these guys would have shown up.
  14. I like Hummus alot. you did realize this is exactly what would happen, correct? Especially with the look-alike thread not getting much action this week.
  15. Rut-Roh. They used to dominate in hockey too.
  16. Ahhh, Rauch Bier. A specialized treat. It's meant to accompany meats. Hence, the smokiness compliments the food. By itself, yeah, it's a bit odd. Like huffing smoke out of the fireplace and then slamming a can.
  17. HONORABLE MENTION CANDIDATE!!! SIT ON MY FACE SADDAM [now that is the definition of trying waaaay too hard]
  18. Oh hell. I can't make up my mind. Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man anyone??????????????????????
  19. Just passing along a story. Not sure if it's really relevant or not. For two years, I was one of the tutors for the Athletic Department. They plunked me down in the Willis basement level and athletes would come get help if they wanted it. Not many did frankly. One that did was Cedric Cromer, a sometimes used Halfback/Hback (some of you might remember his epic 98-yard TD run against Idaho State that won the game. The run must have taken 30 minutes, but he got there). Once, we were talking about Mitch (who had graduated the year prior) and what made him such a good quarterback. I threw out the regular cliches: tight spiral, good decisions, mobility, etc. Obviously, I didn't know jack about the game. Cedrick said: "That's bull. There's thousands of guys who have all that. The thing with Mitch is, when he gets in the huddle, looks at the offense and says 'We are going to march down the field and score,' you just believed him. No doubt. That's what made him so good." Take it for what it's worth. No statistics, Lombardi quotes, claims of authenticity cause "I once scored 4 touchdowns in one game for Polk High." Just seemed like a good place to tell that story.
  20. Fact is...in the discussions pro and con, and it might not make one bit of difference...The playbook is actually 21 years old.
  21. didn't this guy used to play quarterback at Ohio State before he joined the FBI?
  22. Here's a fun, hopefully harmless exercise to keep us busy this week. If we win against FAU, suppose it is because some player has heard the call, felt the love, and risen to the occasion (please feel free to insert other sports cliches). Who will it be? Cam was the guy against Ball State; He shoulda been it against Ohio; I'll say Tune against Alabama cause he wung it out there 23 times without a pick; I'd say Akpunku for Middle Tennessee cause of the pressure he brought (3TFL, 1 sack, and a FF); and no doubt Dunbar for LL. If we win against FAU? I'll go with Royce Hill cause he is due to take something to the house this time, whether it's an interception or return. Any other thoughts on who we'll be praising next week? Or, conversely, if you want: should we lose another heart-breaker in the last seconds again, which poster will have a break-out performance on the boards the next day? Most F-bombs completed? Knee-jerk calls for firing Bataille for a loss? etc.
  23. I think you might be misunderestimating the guy. I mean, he's already stolen the election and pilfered the Nobel Peace Prize.. And that's just what we know about so far. He just might be a smooth criminal after all. [uNT90. I feel I have to clarify that this is more about making a joke in general and much less about your particular post here or your posts in general. Your political convictions don't lead you to some of the outlandish claims and reactions that others express. That, and you tell jokes sometimes too. Carry on.]
