  1. The force is strong with this one. From just one thread there: Posted: Today 12:54 PM This is an indictment on today's society -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now it appears as if a coach hurts a pu$$y player's feelings... all they have to do is run it up the flagpole and get the coach fired. Sad day for Tech... and sad day for college football. RE: This is an indictment on today's society -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- yup -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- it's the Pussfication of America RE: This is an indictment on today's society -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- we can all thank Obama for the CHANGE he has brought to our great country RE: This is an indictment on today's society -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm not an obama fan but I hope this is sarcasm. RE: This is an indictment on today's society -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Im an OSU fan, so i have no stake in this. But that is EXACTLY what Ive been thinking. Joe Pa, Bear Bryant, Eddie Sutton, Bob Knight, just some names, if this happened in their primes, this would have not only been a non story, but expected. Some of those old school guys must just be sick right now. Sounds like AJ should have taken up golf. RE: This is an indictment on today's society -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- First, our "fearless leaders" in Congress pass a horrendous health care bill that many of them didn't bother reading, committing generational theft in the process by taking money from their children and grandchildren to pay for it... Now the Texas Tech "Administration" (I use the term loosely) fires their winningest football coach because some kid (note: a kid, not a man) whines to his helicopter dad about getting his feelings hurt because he wouldn't put forth the effort... WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON?!?!? Both events are an indictment of how entitled and wimpy our society has become. The Founding Fathers of our country, if they were alive today, would be absolutely stunned and embarrassed by this turn of events... RE: This is an indictment on today's society -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I couldnt agree more. We have been witnissing the wussification of our society my entire life. Anyone who is happy this has happened is a complete moron and part of the problem. This aint about football people. Re: This is an indictment on today's society -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Remember, during the presidential election, people were worried because France and Spain didn't "like" us and wanted to win their approval. We get further and further away from principles based society and closer and closer to squeaky wheel/easy road mentality. Thanks GM and company - you are masquerading as conservatives. It goes beyond just football. It is part of the reason we are losing jobs overseas. Look at that FL poster from the RedKnights recently. He doesn't feel like teachers should be held accountable to teach kids. Everyone in America now thinks they are someone and shouldn't have to put forth much work. We've long since lost our Protestant Work Ethic this country was founded on. When I was a kid, we used to say hard work is its own reward and nothing like the satisfaction of a job well done. Now it is just "I did my best or "At least I tried". It isn't just sports. It is everywhere. We're not a very tough group of people any more but we can sure complain about it and blame everyone else for it. Been happening for awhile now. It's especially prevalent up here in Seattle where boys no longer grow up to be men, but little pussies. If there's a fight at school (at any level), you can't even fight back because you will get suspended as well. The founding fathers of this country and the men who built this country throughout its early days must be rolling over in their graves to see how pathetic we've become. Thank you soccer moms and liberal media. Let's roll!
  2. In your acceptance speech, I hope you thanked Jim Caldwell and Leslie Frazier. I'm just saying.
  3. Considering the nature of most of the posts on this board, I would think Boyle's Law would be a more appropriate analogy. Been fun folks. I'm out the door.
  4. Total f*ing carp. Ok sir. I'm a man of my word. It's not funny for those people, but it killed 5 minutes of my night here figuring that out, and I laughed. Considering that I'm flying into Tulsa, which might or might not be the epicenter of the 2012 sequel depending on weather the Whether Channel (that was for you UNTFan23) can be trusted or not, I might not be so lucky. That buys you, Rick, and the rest of the Mean Green Nation, a Merry Christmas in my book.
  5. Ok. That honestly made me chuckle. I'm awarding you +.5 for that. Though, I prefer the term bashful because heated confrontations give me the vapors. It's 45 minutes until I leave for the airport, and I've got nothing else to do. Make me laugh one more time and I'll move you into category 3 and call a truce. Deal?
  6. And here I thought that the reason we all come here is because of our ties to North Texas and interest in North Texas related topics. Silly me. As well: pointing to the forum subject headings as a source of authority? Cute. Should, then, the Eagles Nest heading include the word 'boobs' since you felt that was an appropriate topic to express your love of North Texas? I also ran across this recently; I find it an enlightening take on authority in these here parts: General Rules: •While debating and discussion is fine, we will not tolerate rudeness, insulting posts, personal attacks or purposeless inflammatory posts. Our decision is final in these matters. •Multiple or repeated posting in order to increase your post count is not allowed. •Advertising, spamming and trolling is not allowed. This includes using the forum email and Private message system to spam other members. •Each member is allowed one login account. Registering with multiple accounts is not allowed. •We reserve the right to remove offensive posts without notice. •We also reserve the right to ban anyone who willfully violates the forum rules. •Also while these rules cover most common situations, they cannot anticipate everything. Consequently we reserve the right to take any actions we deem appropriate to ensure these forums are not disrupted or abused in any way. •You cannot post any affiliate or referral links, or post anything asking for a referral. Such posts will be subject to removal. •Do not argue with the Admins about proper use and policy. The Board Rules do not prohibit hijacks, off-topic posts, silliness, lame attempts at jokes, etc. Perhaps they should. That's another matter of debate to be taken up with the mods, not the other posters. They do, however, prohibit personal attacks, insulting posts, and rudeness. Such as, perhaps, asking a poster if he is a 13-year old because he sounds like one, or questioning whether another poster is strong enough to pull a bow, and hence not a real man, because you disagree with his politics and how far away he lives from Texas?????? Sound familiar? I appreciate your attempted call for informed political debate. How about walking the walk while you're at it? yyz28: I feel the need for a second time to explain to a poster that my original response to a post of theirs was more of a general comment and not specifically about them. When I responded, I was less interested in mocking your calling out a (blatant) hijack. That was a fair assessment. I actually was trying to point out that there are about 10-12 formulae for posts on this board. The hijack-hijinx is just one of them, and it irritates a certain portion of this board. Conversely, the predictable "Democrats Bad! Evil I tells ya" bereft of actual political discourse is another formula that also irritates a certain portion of the board (and for the record, I work in a VERY liberal office and get SICK AND TIRED of the predictable "Conservatives Bad. Evil I tells ya" talk.) Since no one asked, let me be even more clear. When it comes to political discussions here, I consider there to be generally three types of posters on either side of the politcal spectrum: 1. Sanctimonious know-it-alls who feel compelled to lash the boards with their infallible wisdom. They generally post the same basic ideas, derived from the respective talking-heads of their political leaders, regardless of the topic at hand, and almost always, though not exclusively, start political threads. And take disagreement or the splitting of intellectual hairs as a sign that you are giving the devil a hand job 'cause if yer not wit us, yer agin' us. This is actually a very small percentage of the board's posters. Just a handful on both sides. 2. The generally-interested in politcs who like to mix it up with those who have opposing views. It's like playing the dozens with the constitution as your primary text. This group is the large majority who post on politics, and though often passionate in expressing their viewpoints and beliefs, treats the other side with respect. These people don't get in trouble with the mods cause they follow the above quoted rules. This majority is actually good for the board. (for the record: I include you in this group yyz28. Just wanted to be clear) 3. The group of posters who simply crack my stuff up on a consistent basis. I don't care what they're saying cause it's funny. Tasty and Quoner, who've been called out here for attempted funnycide, are in this group. In the interest of fairness, off the top of my head UNT90, KingDL1, and Rudy fall into this group from the right of the political spectrum crowd. How can you be mad at someone who isn't taking themselves all that seriously? So, yeah, the hijacking annoys some people. Maybe it should be banned. Take it up with those in power. Rules get rewritten all the time when the majority changes its mind. However, there are other little formulae of responses that equally annoy others. Read the rules, follow them, or get out. That or secede from the Union cause you know better. I hear that's all the rage these revolutionary days. Honestly, I don't get all the angst. This board overall is a pretty happy-fun-time place compared to most, and I enjoy checking in on it for my North Texas fix every chance I get. Sure, not everybody is on the same page, but that's just life. I also remember it being like that when I was in school at NT. Still love the place. I get on a plane in 4 hours. If I've offended someone personally, I'll PM an apology when I return in two weeks. I made this offer once before, and no one took me up on it. Merry Festivus Ya'll!
  7. Hijack formula? Toolery is rainbow-hued. F*ck the democrats.
  8. No Pecan? Chart must have been made in New York City.
  9. You are correct about the prenup. I was actually thinking about the hit he's gonna take when the major sponsorships dry up. He'll still endorse products, but I don't think he'll get the 8 or 9 figure mega deals he was used to. This whole thing has become a TMZ-esque Feeding Frenzy in a way that Kobe's little 'incident' never did. He might have to spend the next couple years living off just his tournament winnings (well, that and interest on his Gabillion dollar bank account; poor guy). But does he love children?
  10. Methinks he will be inspired to get back out on the course sometime in the near future. Call it a hunch.
  11. Nice list. Makes me feel like Rip Van Winkle. Those teams and these were in the same decade????? Feels like so long ago.
  12. Give it to Gerhart. He could be the next Mike Alstott in the NFL. I miss that style of running.
  13. ppffttttt...... We all know that GMG is going to get an extension no matter how long the down-time lasts. Harry's nephew is doing a great job maintaining the server. He grew up in the system and knows it inside and out. (sorry. I've been out the last two weeks and this is the best I can do)
  14. Been reading the (sparse) reactions to the game today. Let me begin by saying that, at most, I catch about a game a year live, so I really rely on the board for a more full understanding of what happens on the field as opposed to reading ESPN's stat sheet. So, if I've made any gross errors or over-generalizations here, please feel free to correct them. It's pretty clear that, as a program, we are way down at the moment. Here's what I have gathered from today's posting: 1. Dodge manages recruiting, PR, and institutional values to a level not known since the Fry era. 2. Some people feel he is an exceptional high-caliber human being, who is on the cusp (and has been dating back to at least last year) of something unique and great in NT history. 3. That he was a bold, high-risk chance that RV took at a fragile moment in UNT football history. HUGE upside if things panned out, but nobody (or at least only a few) anticipated the weekly beatdowns the fans (and players) would be subjected to. 4. His recruiting to UNT is not to be questioned. Talent on the field in NO WAY matches what shows up on the scoreboard. 5. For whatever reason, be it bad game-planning schemes, in-game decisions, poor choice of Assistant Coaches, or just some flat out curse voodoo style, his teams keep losing games, in the waning moments, to inferior opponents. My thought is this. Remember Cris Carter when he was with the Philadelphia Eagles? He made some great plays. But, Buddy Ryan let him go, uttering the famous phrase "All he does is catch TDs." Meaning, He has all the talent in the world, but doesn't handle the little, day to day stuff that makes great teams work, so he's not worth the hassle despite the glory. He did the essential important things right, but failed at the little things that are often overlooked. Is Todge the Reverse Cris Carter? He does all the little things right. Pushing a sense of excitement and purpose in regards to UNT football? Check. Convincing talented 17-18 year old players with stars in their eyes that they should be a part of something new, exciting, and local instead of shipping off to foreign environs to gut it out from the bench for a shot at NFL stardom? Check. Convincing potential donors that this new venture is the next big thing in the Metroplex and worth supporting? Jury still out on that, but we’re in a position on that front we haven’t been before. My question is not really a question. If he is let go, how will he be remembered? As a complete failure? Or the guy who did all the little things that made it possible for someone else to come in and raise this program to a level it had not been before, despite not being able to deliver on the big, essential things, like winning? I really, really don’t know. Is he the reverse Cris Carter? It’s an odd feeling for me reading the boards right now. As a school, we seem to be at a lower point than ever before. However, part of the complaints are based on the idea that we have so much talent, momentum with the stadium, that we cannot afford not to let this guy go. Even though he is responsible for much of that. Again, not making a pointed statement. You guys watch the games more than I do. I’m really confused and curious about where we are currently at and where we could be next year. Just wanted to float this out there.
  15. He's gonna be missed, brah.
  16. Careful dude, or this will become another Homecoming thread.
  17. If we all continue to synchronize our respective ideological outrages so well, I'm thinking Gold Medal all the way.
  18. That would be MTSU's Homecoming. I can't believe I just posted in this thread. I feel dirty.
  19. You know, I almost miss the old Hiram Gonzalez/Spencer Stack "Put in the third string QB and air it out" rants from back in those days.
  20. These dang old intrawebs are making things so confusing these days. Whatever happened to the good old days when you could ask a rhetorical question in the mirror, or while walking alone in the park? Back then, only the ducks would be dumb enough to try and answer you. Now, it's just so confusing. Oh Brave New World, that has such things in it.
  21. Even its two-dimensional visual nature? Man, that's just harsh. Way harsh.
  22. Your bolded statement sums up my feelings perfectly. Won't miss that track at all, and wouldn't mind it if someone took this footage and put in a claymation Godzilla stomping it to the ground. But, for better and worse, there's been some great memories there. Thanks for posting this.
