  1. Ouzo? Don't talk about -- Ouzo? You kidding me? Ouzo? I just hope we can have a beer! Another beer. While it is no surprise to learn that you attend events specifically about resenting things (country, god, kittens, apple-pie filled with baseballs), I must admit some surprise and disappointment that Tasty was attending as well. Mods, as Tasty is a high ranking leader in the Mean Green Army, I feel this thread must be moved to the UNT NEWS forums as it has dire implications for our leadership.
  2. Actually, I was saying that that is exactly how the discussion is going with examples like this one, which is the real problem for me. It plays into the hands of the radical element on the progressive side, just like the talk of death-panels did. It obscures the nuts and bolts discussion of how could such a thing be made to work or how would it affect the health-care coverage for those who, as you accurately put it, already have adequate coverage due to a combination of work ethic, self-sacrifice (and other factors outside of personal responsibility: not everyone who has health-care is 100% responsible for it; nor is it true that everyone who does not is 100% responsible for their lack). The radical elements of both sides have culpability in the fact that the national discussion thus far on the topic has been 100% un-illuminating, un-helpful, and unproductive. My point was more about the methodology of the current state of the debate, not about the content intended (which I did try to make clear). I can agree to that if you can agree that SMU deserves the Death(panel) Penalty Agreed. I'm not good at figuring out my own html. This is a big improvement.
  3. I understand the point you are trying to make, but this anecdotal evidence of one privileged individual actually contradicts that point and ends up being evidence in favor of the current progressive arguments for health care reform. UNTfan23 and yyz28 did a much better job of making the point and countering those arguments. The story of the Canadian Premiere really just says to me that the US is the BCS of healthcare. It's not a good example of the arguments to preserve (or more accurately, to rationally, not radically, reform) the current state of American health care system.
  4. If things shake out the way you (and I) hope in this regard, I will propose that we rename them Chico and The Man.
  5. I knew that we had been denied the right to change our name (perhaps Dean Elias wasn't fully behind the movement ); no idea why SW Tx was allowed to. Am I the only person who prefers University of North Texas? I know it has directional/regional school written all over it, but it seems more distinctive to me.
  6. Todd Dodge's response? "When I find out who gave me this -2 they're getting punched in the back of the neck."
  7. I will answer by quoting an appropriate line from an Esther Matthews poem: "Still Waters do run deep."
  8. Thanks 93-98. Good reading between meetings this morning!
  9. No More Mojo! (for you West Texans out there)
  10. The recruiting services are for athletes what SATs are for students: A useless means to determine whether any individual will actually succeed, but a pretty reliable indicator for the potential for success. They get those marks for measurable ability, but once they get to campus, they gotta work their butts off to make something of themselves, regardless of those evaluations. It's still a roll of the dice on any individual case, but you are hedging your bets with a higher rating that things will pan out. That said, there's nothing more rewarding, as a fan, to see some underrated kid come in, hit the weights/books, knock heads on the field/in class, and come out on top.
  11. You could have accomplished the same thing with a much shorter list of Officers his credibility most resembled: 1. Captain & Tennille
  12. Sorry Tasty. The dude flies and scubas. We fear giving him negative points because we're not safe on land, water, or in the sky. He's like all three Centurions rolled up into one. You're gonna lose.
  13. If he had updated his profile picture recently, that would have been evident.
  14. If they were in a better urban-conference, their ranking would immediately go up regardless of the criminal talent on the roster.
  15. If things shake out this way, it bodes well for the future of the program. The big schools usually have the CEO/Head Coach type because they can pay for top quality assistants who do the hands-on, nuts and bolts work. Smaller programs, like ours, have to pay for the hungry employee type willing to wear 20 different hats as a chance to move up.
  16. My rational side agrees with this. But it's February (almost) which breeds its own type of unreal expectations: National signing day is later this week; all of our verbals will stick with us; they're all gonna develop into winners; some mystery recruit will swoop in and committ who is the second coming of the Billdozer Dauterive. I reserve the right to ignore reason for a few weeks right now and let happy pants excitement take over for a while. Same goes for the Canales hire. The story changes when Spring ball rolls around and inevitable injuries, departures, and the brand of random weirdness (aka reality) that seems to always come up emerges.
  17. The Mean Green Gentleman from the West Coast district gladly yields a point on behalf of his constituent from the Aegean Territory. Nicely done 96.
  18. Dodge is a Marxist?
  19. In a weird way: This. Not that I agree, but you're being completely honest about it. If we can all agree that the inscriptions are essentially a form of advertising of our intentions/values (I actually think both sides can agree on this, just not on the effect of it), then I posit that what we have here is more of a brand-saturation issue in regards to marketing. Those tiny little inscriptions are hard to see, and are designed to look like serial numbers. Instead, let's just go All In and dress up a bunker-buster bomb in an Uncle Sam jacket, give it angel wings and a halo. And when it's dropped, blast Handel's Messiah oratorio, with Toby Keith singing principal tenor, and have Robert Duvall riding it all the way down yelling "I love the smell of Napalm in the morning." I think the message would be more clear then.
  20. Agreed in the sense that perhaps the people who make decisions to send our troops in to places should keep such matters at the top of their minds. However, I also think that suicide bombers in Gaza, not to mention the 9-11 hijackers, had their scriptures thoroughly at the top of their thoughts as they, so to speak, pulled the trigger. A very, very sharp double-edged knife there. One way or the other, someone's getting cut.
  21. I thought the same thing, but couldn't be definitive. So my next question is this: Did Waters ever play on the OL at UNT?
  22. Bump. Waters was the best Tight End to play for North Texas who became a Pro Bowl Lineman in the NFL. In all seriousness, I cannot remember if he played TE his entire career here, or just his last year in 95. Anyone else remember?
  23. Reminds me of that line in Jaws when the shark makes its first appearance, and Roy Scheider says "You're gonna need a bigger boat."
  24. You're totally the Dan Brown code-master. With that secret message, you ought to be getting at least a few positive grades from parts of the board.
