  1. Ankle daguerreotypes or it's non-empirical ephemera (stop)
  2. Fair enough. I now see that I misunderstood your original post that read: "Welcome to Leftist-ran Orange County California." I interpreted that as blaming a particular side of the political spectrum for a very distressing social problem. But since you posted a link to America Magazine (I'm Catholic and have a subscription), I now see that you were not intending to belittle those that have the least among us as part of a partisan argument. My apologies. Thanks for your concern. I volunteer with a group out here that works with one of these communities. It's really tragic to see the effects of addiction, mental illness, and economic despair. That is perhaps why I initially responded. Again, sorry I misunderstood your point.
  3. Agreed. It is logically-specious to imply causal relations between broad macro-economic phenomena and a specific voting record in a single election. Unless you mean to imply that the entire homeless population here has been created in the last year and not indicative of larger, longer social trends that go beyond something as arbitrary as a county line. There has long been great income-inequality in California, and coastal cities endure large homeless populations because the weather is so mild year-round (a joke we tell out here: "What's the easiest job in America? Meteorologist in San Diego. Just memorize 'There'll be a high of 74 today and a low of 60 tonight.' Repeat 365 times each year."). Or do you believe that Orange County is more liberal, right now at this moment, than other counties in California that do not have this type of homeless population?
  4. Wrong. From the easily searchable internet thingy called Wikipedia: "It is also known for its political conservatism—a 2005 academic study listed three Orange County cities as among America's 25 most conservative, making it one of two counties in the United States containing more than one such city (Maricopa County, Arizona also had three cities on the list.[10]) Orange County is part of the Tech Coast." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orange_County,_California
  5. Props on the most awesome humblebrag.
  6. Your heart is in the right place, but your tongue is a misbegotten messenger for it. This team won 9 games. Many of those wins were close and the result of a combination of tenacity, heart, and luck. This team, as currently configured, cannot expect to win 9 every year. Obviously. It was a fortunate confluence of circumstances. Best To enjoy it. To do so regularly, the coaches need to improve recruiting and scheme fundamentals, and players will need to execute better. They know that. They'll work on it. And if they don't improve that, they know what'll eventually happen. But to piss all over them as if it's a truth shower is just flat out embarrassing.
  7. Whelp. That was a whole lot of nothing. Part of it can be attributed to the age difference and that Rigo had to go up two weight classes for the fight. But starting in the third round, Lomachenko just fought at a faster perception of time. Rigo tried to lock up his arms and that low crouch defensive posture thing he does. But Lomo had 8 answers for each of those. Nowhere near the contest that GGG and Alvarez provided.
  8. Fight starting up soon. Should be an interesting study in contrasts. Precision and timing based offense versus a maddeningly patient and deliberate defense.
  9. (Reasonable) Road Trip!!!! This is the first time I could say that in my 20 years out here. Thank you Wren!!!
  10. The DRC should just use this as Vito's byline: " He reports; you deride."
  11. This thread is so meta-denton. It's like Baudrillard and (late) Barthes joined the booster club.
  12. The periodic calls to dox people by revealing who (down)voted posts is a problematic, though well-intentioned, solution to the problem. Perhaps the board could be made to reveal each poster's aggregate up and down vote history. Not who they voted for specifically. But how they did generally. Just each of our general tendencies to reward or revile content/contributions. That might be revealing.
  13. Sure. But whichever bid we accept is indisputable proof that it was the wrong choice, a result of unbounded ignorance, and that anyone else on this board could have chosen a better bowl. #expectmore
  14. He might be referring to the Fire Graham Harrell thread with 90 seconds left to go in the game.
  15. LOLOLOLOLOL. The only thing more dramatic than the last 90 seconds of the game was the last 5 minutes on this board.
  16. In all seriousness, if you head down to SoCal and are interested in recommendations for camping/hiking excursions in Death Valley/Joshua Tree area, PM me. I saw that you posted you were in Bishop recently. That and Lone Pine are my base of operations for Summer hikes in the Eastern Sierras. It was too late to recommend anything. But since I now see you're on an extended tour, let me know if you want any recs for this area. I'm actually not in LA but in the inland and have hiked these deserts for 20 years now. A lot of odd/cool/idiosyncratic stuff down here.
  17. I'm also of the mind that it would not have hurt to see what Quinn could have done with another opportunity. But as far as lathering up the anointing oils go in a purely Manichean, they're all idiots, sense: Anyone here remember Matt Flynn of Green Bay? No? Exactly. Sample sizes matter. And for nostalgia's sake: SPENCER STACK WOULDA THROWN FOR 10 TOUCHDOWNS IN 6 ATTEMPTS IF THE HEAD COACH WASN'T AN IDIOT!!!!!
  18. I really don't check the board much anymore, and now I realize why that's a mistake. Wasn't aware there was legit talk about the Sweet Science on here. My bad. Canelo is more of technician. Precise. Smart. No wasted energy. Patient. Should win based on the laws of physics alone, with extra points for best haircut in the sport. He's the poster boy for why the sport is exactly that, a sport and not a glorified blood match. But GGG is the damned beast from the Book of Revelations that takes our laws of physics and rips them apart, tearing a hole in the space time continuum where anything is possible. His defensive posture is page one of what not to do in the ring. He appears slow in both recognition and reaction. Unorthodox punching mechanics are his righteous orthodoxy. He literally steals our teleological candy about an orderly universe that can be explained. And my money is that he will win towards the end, say the 10th? I'm thinking more a TKO probably. But regardless of how, an announcer will say "that didn't even look like a punch at first, more like an epileptic thrash that appeared to graze Canelo's temple." But you're right Tasty about the damned politics of the sport. For my money, regardless of weight class, It begins and ends with the most dodged beast of the sport: Lomachenko or GTFO.
  19. Lol. Guy posts a video of a heinous douche using a car as a weapon and killing someone. This douche happens to be a white supremacist. That doesn't make him a douche. When he decided to act in such a way to deprive other human beings of their life because of his beliefs, that's what took him to Full Douche mode. Never go Full Douche. Same exact thing can be said for James Hodgkinson, the Bernie Bro douche who decided that his political beliefs took priority over the lives of others and shot up a baseball game. F$*k that guy. And the only reasonable response to the OP's initial post would have been to say about James Fields, the driver. F&#k that guy. And F()*k anybody that puts their beliefs over the lives of others. But instead of saying that, several people fall all over each other to rise to the occasion and do the old partisan false equivalency argument that "both sides are equally bad" or "well, remember when your side did it too, "I know you are but what am I." Thus missing the entire point that there are no sides, just a%^holes who take things too far, but this has to do with them being jerks, not political scoreboarding. So, in review: James Fields, F&#k that guy. James Hodgkinson, F)^k that guy. And as far as Tasty is concerned: I can only imagine that, after observing others make light of the death of a human being in order to redirect the conversation to partisan, tribalistic political points as opposed to mourning the senseless loss of life over ideology, and deciding to satirize those very actions, thus being called out for not treating the topic with respect or making light of it, that Tasty is currently having this conversation with Harry:
  20. Not too bad. Didn't know about them, and I'm a long-time Helloween fan (going back to late 80s). Sort of, kinda related. After 16 years, Watchtower has finally released Concepts of Math. More of a hybrid between Power and Progressive Metal. But solid in my book. Though, probably not to everyone's taste.
  21. And why does he hate Tom Selleck so much?
