Is It Offical? Are We The Worst Team In College Football
yyz28 replied to Mean Green Sig's topic in Mean Green Football
Agreed!!! ...the Defense is TERRIBLE, and changes need to start being made, like... NOW... We'd be 3 and 2 rght now with even a halfway decent defense. -
You've got very large nads, my friend. Blame the crappy talent the kids have, give the coaches a pass... "They couldn't do better with this group of players no matter what they change" is basically what you are saying... ...but WE'RE the one's who are irresponsible?
-
I'm tired of this "we don't have the talent" argument. We have a LOT of returning players who were a part of the #64 defense in the nation last year. Not gangbusters, but a HELL of a lot better than say the 119th. (or lower, if we inlude division 2) ...You like my "irresponsible post?"
-
I fault Dodge for that. It was a rookie mistake not to surround himself with proven talent at the college level. It is the one thing that has bothered me about Dodge thus far. I hope (sooner rather than later) his idea works out...
-
Fine... but someone else needs to be building the scheme. This scheme is terrible. ...and who is coaching these guys how to tackle?

Too Many Missed Chip Shots, Next Kicker?
yyz28 replied to eulessismore's topic in Mean Green Football
you've got to consider the condition on the field tonight... -
Zero improvement. Zero adjusting. Jr. High Schemes. This isn't going to change with this guy at the defensive helm. ...care to wager?
-
Get real guys. Nobody is saying the Offense is perfect, but the Defense is TOTALLY INEPT. COMPLETELY. ...and King - this had better not be a 4 year building process... We should be in the hunt for the Conf. Title RIGHT NOW... or at very least by next year.
-
C'mon... you are all thinking it... I'm just saying it. We've been arguing with each other about who whould be playing QB, but the problem isn't really in the pocket. Truth - OU's coaches lauged at our schemes. Truth - With even decent defense, we'd be 3-2, and seriously in the hunt for the Conf. Title. Truth - Dickey's recruiting strenth is Defense - This should be (as evidenced by the good play from the D last year) a good defensive team We do not adjust to the opposing team, and the secondary might as well not be on the field. THIS GUY ISN'T SHOWING ANY IMPROVEMENT WEEK TO WEEK. It is time to get a Defensive Coordinator with some college experience, or we're not going to see ANY success.
-
Are you for @#$%ing real?!?!?!?!?! What difference does the Freshman getting experience make if the Defense is not improving?!?! I am 100% with Rick here. I don't give a crap who we're playing in the pocket. Vizza exhibited EVERY PROBLEM people on this board beat on Meager about, yet we're having a love fest with this guy. I'm not against him, it's really the same deal no matter which QB you play, so I don't think it matters, and neither of these guys will be QB next year... BET THE FARM ON IT. So that brings us back to the REAL problem. If we had a halfway decent defense, we'd be 3 and 2 and would be in the hunt for the Conf. crown RIGHT NOW!!!!!!! The Offense has done as great a job at this point in the development of this new system as anyone could be asking them to. The D is TERRIBLE. ...and the PROBLEM IS NOT THE PLAYERS. Dodge is proving his Offensive system is going to work here, but this Mendoza guy, I'm sorry, HAS GOT TO GO!!! No, I'm not going to give him any more time. This is just pathetic. We played a more complex defense in Jr. High for the love of God.
-
ULL - 105 NT - 77 Meager will throw for 11 touchdowns, 1300 Yards but will throw 3 interceptions and will be blamed for the loss.
-
LOL! That too...
-
...if I had a nickel...
-
...I don't think anyone REALLY expected us to win... ...but to have another blowout like this, and have virtually zero defense wasn't what anyone had in mind either. ...it isn't the losing to OU and Ark that bothers so many, it is HOW we lost that is the problem. I think most are willing to give everyone time to adjust, but how many losses created by this terrible defensive scheme do we suffer before we start to adjust?
-
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!! PICTURES!!! Even crappy, lo-res cell phone pics.

I wish I could get on board with this happy-day gut feeling... ...but I can't. ...is a win IMPOSSIBLE? Heck no, that's why we play the game. ...it is even sorta, kinda, maybe when the stars align pefectly likely? Not with this team - not this year. I'm not taking a shot at ANYONE here, but I just don't see it happening. ...and if I have to eat crow, I'll be a happy man. ...the positive thing I'm willing to say here though is this - we get the QB mistakes down a little and continue to see improvement from the D, we COULD be in the hunt for the Conf. title yet. Everyweek there has been improvement - not enough yet - but improvement none the less. ...if this trend continues, we'll be alright.

Todd Dodge Show Live Tonight From Sweetwater
yyz28 replied to ntsumgspe's topic in Mean Green Football
Man... That was my hangout when I was at school there... Sweetwater has got some GREAT margaritas... I may have to drive up one night for this... -
We play the best QB we have. Period. I don't care what his last name is.

Wow... this thread has gotten aweful hot... Meager is part of the problem. No doubt. ...but he isn't the only problem. I'm not saying that he should or shouldn't be replaced - I fear that that might take us out of the frying pan and into the fire - but there is certainly room for critisim. 6 Interceptions in 2 games is too much. He does not check down well, and his arm is weak - recievers are constantly coming back to catch his passes. ...however, I don't understand this need to pin a loss like this on one person. It seems like people are blaming this loss on either A. Meager, or B. the Defense. ...how 'bout both people? Meager threw 3 interceptions. The Secondary was picked apart. The Offensive line played poorly. Special teams were terrible - 2 blocked punts and and hardly any punt/kickoff return yardage. The coaching staff TOTALLY BLEW IT in 2 ways - 1. Playcall was not designed for the QB, and 2. ZERO halftime adjustments. If you know you have a QB that has a weak arm and usually throws to reciever #1, WHY call the fade route? TWICE?!?!?! If your QB commits 3 turnovers, your Defense can be thrown on at will and your special teams fails to show up, and then you make critical coaching mistakes - YOU ARE GOING TO LOSE THE FOOTBALL GAME!!! There is no point in attacking each other and getting nasty, calling each other asinine and jack-ass. What the hell does this gain? This team needed to be overhauled. We KNEW that this type of thing was and still is a possiblity in a building year. We have new schemes and new coaches who don't have college experience - they will have to learn along the way just like the players. This is going to take some time. FAU is for real this year, and could easliy be in the hunt for the title. This is going to take some time. Give TDogde and his team the time to gel and get some experience together, and I think we're in for GOOD things... but be prepared for this to take a season OR TWO!!! ...GO MEAN GREEN!!!
-
Yeah, that really was the highlight for me too... He was his old self again tonight. What a great sight...
-
LOL! There is lots to be positive about. ...but its also ok to be critical of the performance and what went wrong. I hope the team is equally critical, and I'm sure with Dodge at the helm, they are. ...One can be critical of the football performance this evening and still believe in what is going on here. It is ok to be willing to accept this as a possilble near winless building year and still disect this performance tonight.
-
Sorry, not buyin'. ANYBODY would be running for their lives if they had already had 5-7 quiet seconds in the backfield to think about what he was going to do. ...Danny DOES run well when under pressure, but at least half of the time that he was under pressure tonight was not because the Line wasn't doing a good job, but because they can't keep the D out of the back field for 10 seconds. I think Meager is a GREAT guy, and he works his ass off, and really puts his heart into it. ...but he has to make faster, better decisions if he's going to improve.
-
I know everyone is hacked at Meager right now, and he did make some VERY costly mistakes tonight... ...but I'm also reading what seems to be a near love fest because the D actually showed up tonight. Nevermind that they got burned on every long pass attempted (thank goodness FAU's recievers aren't very good. I saw several open men drop great passes that would have been turned into TD's or HUGE yardage) but my biggest disappointment of the night was the D. The Line looked VERY good - FAU could barely run the ball, but the secondary, even against a passing attack as weak as FAU's looked TERRIBLE, and I guess we can't exactly blame Roman tonight... The secondary has to improve and we have to get the turnoever thing under control (by any means, including a QB change) or we're going to be winless this season.
