The special teams did a great job on that onsides kick, but other than that, were weak. In addition, the kick coverage was really sad. ...I think the Offense was getting pretty worn down the second half, and Navy actually made some adjustments at halftime. A couple of interceptions at bad times (one Vizza's fault, the other one was tipped into the defender's hands) stopped good drives, both in the Redzone. ...so the Offense was moving the ball nearly as good in the 2nd half as in the first. There was some blitzing, but the line was doing a good job of picking it up most of the night. REAL improvement on the offensive line last night from our last outting.

I'm shocked there is still people defending this Defensive coaching staff... I'm blown away. ...Navy scored AT WILL against us. We stopped them from scoring touchdowns on only TWO drives and one of them earned them a field goal. The other had their backup QB at the helm. This defensive performance was the worst I have ever seen, at any level, EVER. The argument about what this team's problem is should now officially be over. Mendoza needs to be fired, not next week, not after lunch, but NOW! ...the rest of the coaching staff needs to be evaluated. Anyone responsible for coaching tackling obviouslly needs to go bye-bye. With even a weak (not non existant) defense we would have won this game, would have beat SMU, FAU and probably won a couple of other games, and this season would be very different. No, the offense hasn't been perfect, but you can't see a performance like they put on last night and come away with ANY other conclusion than "MAJOR improvements are being made on the Offensive side of the ball week after week". ...with last night's offense and a college level defensive scheme with even minimal talent, we run the Sunbelt table again, and probably have a shot at some quality OCC wins... LIKE SAY, FOR EXAMPLE... NAVY!!!!!!!! I hope for the sake of the players and their obvious desire to win, that Coach Dodge does the right thing. Firing a friend sucks (been there, done that...), but that's part of the risk in hiring a friend.

You mean PARENTS are responsible for how their Children turn out?!?!? I thought it was the Government and Network TV's job to raise this nation's children?!?! ...I think it's time for the Oompa-Loompas to open up a can of Whoop-Ass on some former UNT player's families.

Why Not Bring Out Navy With Big Ovation?

Great Post! I totally agree! -
The Comfy Chair?! Comfy Chair? COMFY CHAIR?! ...while they're all saying "the comfy chair", here is UNT vs. Navy... Volume 8.

NOOOOOOOOOOOONE EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!!!!!!!

I'm excited about this game. I'd REALLY like to see Troy make a statement for themselves and the 'Belt! Good Luck Trojans!

Guys, get serious. The "Press" is a business, and has little to do with fairness, equal time, etc... Racism is a big headline, sells papers. "Oops, our bad" doesn't. I understand the disappointment, but seriously, don't expect anything more than what is good for business from ANY press outlet.

...after a night saving lives and fighting fires, and then a day full of NT Homecoming adventures... ...Rick saved my rear end. We had taxed our SUV a little too much enjoying tune-age during the tailgaiting festivities and the 'ol battery just wasn't up to starting our fair ride. ...in swoops the Greatest UNT fan to save the day! Thank you Rick, for the great conversation and the jumpstart. We wouldn't have made it home without ya! GO MEAN GREEN!

Song Girls are just GREAT! ...and the Miami Cheerleader looks like the posts holding up my fence. I perfer my women with boobs. -
I wish players wouldn't call us a small school... ...but that is a great article, and I'm glad to see him getting some press!

My brain says MTSU - 35 NT - 21 ...but I'm with some others here with my gut... I just have a feeling THIS could be the game. Things are set up well for a slight upset here. MTSU - 28 NT - 31 I'd expect a farily high scoring affair. I expect our O will have adjusted to the blitzing problems of late. If the D plays like they did against ULAMO, we should have a chance.
-
Rival I most ENJOY playing - MTSU. We have a long history with them, and we have sort of been on top of each other since day one. Most Hated Team - FAU - Their team has a habbit of disrespecting the fans in the stands at fouts when they have gotten on us (which really drives me nuts.. how do we not beat these guys?) and this last time their coaches came and got some of the players who were flipping off the crowd once they had the game in hand. NO CLASS. I think at time plays out Troy, MTSU and NT will be the dominant powers in the SBC and it will be a threeway rivalry that should be entertaining over the years.

I agree... I don't think the 'Belt is such a bad place to be right now... We're on the heels of CUSA in terms of football performance, and a couple of moves, and there are some schools that will be coming to US. What a change... Let's sit tight. Win Conf. Championships. Win OOC Games. Continue our BBall success... We'll be calling our own shots if we do that. In the meantime, our school and all the schools in the belt should take care of bueinss, do what we can to build the performance and reputation of THIS conference and good things will happen. This means cheering on ALL SBC Teams when they are playing any other conference (yeah, even MUTS!) and it means watching every SBC game you can find on TV. Get wins and build ratings. THIS is how our conference will succeed. GO MEAN GREEN! GO BELT!

Coaches and Administrators are paid, and work for us - the Taxpayers of Texas and Almuni of this school. I'd say we've earned the right to be critical of their job performance - but I don't think they should be attacked personally either.

Fw*telegram Dodge Surprised By Offensive Struggles
yyz28 replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't think the stats are the issue here... ...I think he has an idea of what it takes to be successful with his schemes, and he was simply stating that. The fact that Troy rush's X normally and rushed Y against us IS relevant. The fact that ULALA did the same thing should be an indication. ...I expect the coach will make some chances to help pick up the blitz this week, and I expect to be better. ...burn a blitzing D a few times and they will lay off. I am anxious to see what type of adjustments are made here. I think the D-line is playing better - Here's hoping the Secondary had a banner week and that some of the stragegy this week is focused on the Defensive schemes. My gut tells me this could be the surprise game of our season. ...the guys got a kick to the gut last week, unlike they have had all season. THIS coaching staff seems to have these kids trained to respond to that type of a kick positively, as opposed to the old regime. With all the things that have gone wrong all year, you have to admit this - At NO POINT has this team or staff given up and stopped trying to win, even to the end of a hopeless game. That's the biggest change I've seen so far from the past few years. -
So long as the BCS has a hold of College Football's collective nads, I don't see how the mid major conferences can't help but shift around and become more regional over time. It is the only way for these schools to do in order to level the playing field and drive excitement into their programs. ...but this will take lots of time, and will be an ever shifting target. ...and while I agree with how private schools see the publics, the economics of the situation will be the driving factor, not snobbery.

Yawn @ WAC fans throwing insults. ...the LTech fan in there was the only one with a clue about what is going on in Denton. Kudos.

I don't think so. Troy is pretty bad'arse right now...
-
I agree with "What gives is that we would've lost even if Troy only scored 10 points, because our offense was schooled. We failed to score more than once after SEVEN turnovers," but I'm having a little problem with "The weakest part of our team for several weeks has been offense, not defense" seeing as how we lost by 38 points this week. I'll even give you the 7 points off the punt return. ...so the Defense let them score 31 points. Guys, even when our Offense was "good" earlier in the year, the most we scored was... ...wait for it... 31 POINTS!!! So, its a little hard to buy that somehow the defense was stellar this week when you look at the math. 7 turnovers, I know, I know... Why this need to point to one side of the ball or the other. Earlier in the year, the Offense was pretty good, the defense was weak. ...just because the offense is now weak, doesn't mean the defense is great.

I think the thing that is driving people nuts here isn't the overall record, it's the play by play record on the field. ...We show no defense since the first game, not as a result of the talent, as many have wrongly suggested (64th ranked D last year...) and we haven't managed to adjust much. Troy played a bad game and still destroyed us, and suddenly because they turned over the ball a few times, many are acting like the Defense is fixed. There has been very little defensive improvement and other than 3 quarters of ball, we haven't modified the schemes once this year. I may have been too hasty to call for the D-Cord's job, and I have admitted that, but I think many of us are just looking for some improvement week to week. I'm not seeing it. Many aren't seeing it. It's disheartening. ...perhaps the more disturbing thing coming out of THIS game (and last) however, is that we have shown a good offensive run early in the season, and now that there is enough film on what our non-adjusting offense does, nobody is having much trouble slowing it down. For the first few weeks, it was easy to say “Ok, Defense needs work, but if this is how our Offense is going to go, we’re in business soon enough…” NOW suddenly we’re sucking wind on both sides of the ball, and I don’t believe it is a talent issue. So while my Knee Jerk from last week was too much and over the top, I think what I am saying here is representative of how MANY of the fans feel. I am tired of being told how those of us who are expecting a little improvement each week “expect too much” and “don’t really follow this team too closely”. …it’s the old “If you don’t agree with me, you’re just a dumba$$” mentality that gets peoples hackles up. …if you want people to stop griping at each other, perhaps the right people to talk to are those who feel the need to act like anyone who wants a little improvement from week to week isn’t a real fan and who’s posts don’t fit the “give the coaching staff a COMPLETE PASS FOR A YEAR” mold, and give NT fans a place to vent a little bit. …however, I could be completely wrong, but those are just my $.02.

TFLF is just unstable. Why respond to him, guys? ...and the personal attacks against players... Knock it off guys. Real cheap.
-
Why are you so hell-bent on defending this defense? Dude... they gave up 35 points, by your own admission. ...after we got 7 turnovers. Troy scored on us at WILL this weekend. What gives?
-
Both sides of the ball played badly in areas. The D really did make hay and got some turnovers... ...but if they didn't get a turnover, they couldn't stop the opposition. ...I have heard many state "if the Offense had capitalized on the turnovers, the outcome would be different" ...one could also say "if Troy didn't make so many mistakes, they could have hung a score on us that would make the OU game look like a cakewalk" Troy doesn't turn over the ball like this normally. This was a bizarre game, and had they played like they usually do, we would have faced another 60-70 point loss. The offense shares their part of the blame. Vizza didn't seem to have a good outing, and the Line certainly didn't help him any. In THIS bizarre 7 turn over game, the Offense could have made the difference, but if Troy didn't uncharacteristically turn over the ball 7 times, Troy’s score could have been twice what it was. They were scoring on us at will.

Someone post the name and number, and I'll make a call... Happy to.
