  1. I'd love to see Bennet here. DeLoach of course. This is a good thing for our program. I hope Mendoza does well in his future endeavors.
  2. Man, I hope he's right. PLEASE... Mendoza may be able to pick it up quick with some help. Hopefully whoever we bring in can help teach the relative Green (no pun) staff a thing or two and at some point Mendoza MAY be a viable option for DC. ...but now isn't the time. NT needs to build QUICKLY and get some real success. We need to be in the hunt THIS YEAR - improvement on defense and continued improvement on offense will get us there. OCC is going to be tough this year, but there is no reason with a decent Defensive scheme we shouldn't be in the thick of things in 2008.
  3. Let's See... Coaching Hell or Hawaii... Coaching Hell or Hawaii... let me see... ...there is more to life than Money - and Hawaii just got a few extra bucks to play with themselves.
  4. This is a great thread. I love it when History tells us something...
  5. Big XII sucks? that's why they are 4 and 2 in bowl games so far, right? That's why they had the best Conference Bowl Record in 2005. Seriously. When you look at Conferences year after year, all of them have their ups and downs. Every conference has some teams which are usually dominant. Every conference has some teams that are usually at the bottom. The rest ot the teams are all over the place. The Big XII is no different in this regard than the SEC, Big Ten, Big East, PAC 10 or the ACC.
  6. Can't assume Missouri couldn't beat WV because they couldn't beat OU. Texas Tech beat OU. Texas beat Texas Tech... OU beat Texas. See, it doesn't mean crap really.
  7. I love watching Zero-U get their asses handed to them. That state sucks. (and when your state sucks WORSE than West Virginia, your state REALLY sucks...)
  8. Any playoff scenaio where all of the DI (or whatever we're calling it this year) conferences has little chance of surviving long term. ...and the argument that FAU doesn't have a prayer against USC is totally flawed. 1. a playoff that includes all conferences system creates parity - every team has a legitimate shot at a title - this will effect recruiting over time and make the conferences more balanced. 2. Stanford. Boise State. Need I say more? Anything that can be done to correct what is wrong with College football needs to be done. Over the VERY long term, a playoff system that includes everyone will create parity across the board. All 120 teams will have a real shot, conferences will be forced to realign into more regional systems and the games you CARE about seeing will happen. The bowls can survive as an NIT type of scenario for the many schools who have good years but don't make it to the tourney. Again - ANY system that doesn't include all of the DIA schools will be flawed, and be as short lived as the BCS will end up being. ...if you don't think that minor changes in rules and systems that create parity don't really mean anything, you need to consider how strange this year was, how many upsets you saw this year, and realize that fewer scolarships were allowed to be handed out this year. That one change has spread the talent around more. The results are self evident. Wait until that rule has 4 years to take effect. Now imagine the parity that a Playoff system then creates. Yeah... the big conferences will lose power and money in the short term, but even they are starting to see the wisdom. The only Conference that is still vocally a pain in the ass about a playoff system is the Big Ten. It is a matter of time. "Nobody Cares because it doesn't really mean anything matchups" like OSU v. LSU that produce sagging ratings just prove my point.
  9. I think the Pit needs a facelift somethin' aweful to sort fit in with the rest of the new look on campus and to not look so 1970's, but the facility itself is stellar.
  10. Two Words: DOLLAR DRAFTS ...that is all.
  11. Defense and another year of offensive improvement. Close.
  12. Just give me a carbon copy of Rutger's stadium and I'll be happy... KILLER!
  13. I'm a season ticket holder and I ALWAYS sit on the Student's side. Sorry, but the... shall we say... view... is better on the student section. Plus I like being near the band and I can get isle seats on the Student side.
  14. ...thanks for reminding me of that thread. I'll be back in 3 minutes... ...OK, FINE!!! 2 and a half minutes...
  15. SO true. Good post!
  16. Add Dodge's Spread attack which will only get better with time, and you've got a team that can compete. Not against Troy and FAU, but against Texas, OU and other large Univerities we usually play money/body bag games against. ...you've got a top 25 team and a BCS party crasher. ...yet some want to keep Mendoza around for another year... ...to see what he's REALLY got.
  17. Doners, Donors, what's the difference really? ...I got my degree... ...at UNT.
  18. That IS pretty damned impressive...
  19. Could water and thin t-shirts be involved? ...just askin'.
  20. DAMN, I am tired of threads like this. WE HAVE THE RIGHT as DONORS, STUDENTS, ALUMNI and STAFF, the people who FUND this program and have been long time supporters of it, to question, disagree and critique what is going on here. If you ACTUALLY read the board, you'll find rather quickly that most of the people who are not currently content with seeing the status-quo carried into the next season all have a positive attitude, all think Dodge is the right guy and support him, and all love UNT, despite the fact the football program is sort of down now. I am REALLY getting tired of people coming on this board anew and telling those of us who care enough to get upset and have an opinion that we should shut up. REALLY getting tired of it.
  21. All the reasons listed are valid, but right now, even with the program down a bit, kids will come here to play for Dodge. ...the "new car" smell will be gone in a year or two if he doesn't turn the program around (which I have confidence he will...) but right now he has his own political capital to spend, and is doing so for the betterment of our program. We're lucky to have him.
  22. I'd SO be there...
  23. We can assume the QB posisiton will be better next year. Be it Vizza with another year and training camp under his belt, or Dodge who beats out the veteran, the situation will be better than it was this year. In addition, if the defense can improve and keep us from getting in the hole the way we so often were this year the need for the long ball which may be a weakness isn't as major. Improvement on both sides of the ball will impact the other side. More potent offense gives the defense a better chance to succeed more often. A defense who succeeds more often puts the offense in better position. Yin and Yang. Chocolate and Vanilla. Birds and Bees. ...good times...
  24. GREAT POST FFR! I agree with you 100%. These guys have been through a great deal and have accomplished so much for themselves and UNT as I stated in another thread. GREAT JOB GENTLEMENT! Welcome to the NT Exes! Glad you've all been a part of our program.
