  1. Clearly you miss the point... ...I don't think Flyer or I begrudge anyone doing what they think is politically expediant - but let's just be honest about what is going on. Nancy is keeping the vote from happening because she knows a bunch of dems will jump ship and the issue will pass. ...the Republicans are finally growing a pair because they think they have an issue that can win them this election and maybe even stave off a bigger democratic majority in the congress. EVERY POLITICAL PARTY is doing what they are doing on this issue for POLITICAL REASONS. It's sort of part of the Territory. I promise not to make belive that the Republicans do EVERYTHING THEY DO because they think it is politically expediant if you promise to admit the same about the Democrats. Fair?
  2. Friday was pure greatness. They are still in the chamber as of this morning debating the issue and pushing the President to call a special session. The Dems are pretty transparent on this one. 75% of the country wants more drilling, and they are trying to avoid the issue in an election year because they are on the wrong side of the issue. ...and here's Obama with his "Windfall Profits Tax" to pay for rebates. How does that create more fuel? How does that lower the price? IT DOESN'T!!!! Windfall Profits: Profits that are unexpected, unearned, or sudden gain. - Webster's Let's Do the math. Exxon-Mobil, Q2 Revenue/Profits: $138 Billion in Revenue $11.68 Billion on Profits $32.36 billion paid in Taxes That's 8.4% Profit for the company and investors who take the risk and produce the product. That's 23.4% Profit for the Governments who have done nothing to produce any product. Now, WHO is making the windfall profits? Directly from Barack's Website "As president, Obama will enact a tax fairness agenda that provides 150 million workers a “Making Work Pay” tax credit of $500 per person or $1,000 per working family... ...Barack Obama supports imposing a windfall profits penalty on oil selling at or over $80 per barrel. Revenue from the proposal will be invested in a number of measures to reduce the burden of rising prices on families." 150 Million People * $500 per person tax credit = $75,000,000,000. Barack has said in several speeches that he intends to pay for these tax rebates using a windfall profits tax on the oil industry. Now, does anyone ACTUALLY BELIEVE that this increased COST to the Oil companies isn't going to get passed onto the consumer? All a higher tax on oil is going to do is... RAISE THE RETAIL COST OF OIL!!!!! Folks, 8% profit just simply isn't that impressive. If you invest $100 in a business venture and get $108 a year later would you feel like you made a huge profit? Let's say you've got a small business and you keep he profit as your income. Your revenue is $500,000! Not bad right? No, not terrible, but you're take home (before Uncle Sam gets his 25%) is $40,000. Better than a sharp stick in the eye, but not particularly impressive. These same Governments who are beating on the PRODUCERS are confiscating 3 times the profits the shareholders are earning, and then demonizing them. It is nice to see someone who has the balls to stand up for the 75% of us who think it's time to open up access to the supply in this country.
  3. Brennan looked great last night.
  4. Bill Beeeeelicheeek's White Person's Method. ...I mis-interpreted the rules.
  5. The community seems to be behind him 100%. He'll start for another team this year, this is just posturing at this point. I have a bigger problem with the team than I do him. If you want him, start him. If not, cut him loose so he can play.
  6. That's my concern as well... Why the HELL would anyone race the fuel to race a VW? ROTFLMAO!!! ...street racing is stupid, take it to the track folks...
  7. This is a shame. My cousin and I who were roommates at Kerr Hall our freshman year in '96 lived next door (and shared a bathroom) with Damon and his roommate. I liked Damon, though I didn't hang out with him outside of Kerr Hall or knew him that well. I lost touch with him after we moved out of the dorms at the end of that year, and haven't heard anything about him since he was the QB in '96. ...sometimes you have to hit rock bottom.
  8. I like seeing Texas Tech up there like that. ...they have been so close, yet so far away for so long. It would be fun to watch them roll through for a change... ...and Eagle1855 - That's the most under-rated post of the day!
  9. It DID get me... that was my only miss. 49 outta' 50.
  10. This is an absolutely EXCELLENT interview, and I can't wait for part two! Thanks for the hard work guys and getting this out to all of us. ...and THANKS RV!!!
  11. I'd be in for two...
  12. It's not that simple. She has every intention of allowing the vote if Obama wins the election. ...then they can claim the mantle of having "gotten the country back to affordable gas". The last thing the democratically controlled congress is going to do is let this be a victory for the minority party who is for it with Bush in the whitehouse. ...this is a timing issue.
  13. ...thanks for clearing that up, I coudln't figure out what the heck his name was...
  14. Speculation actually makes up 100% of the price (excluding taxes)... ...it may be 60% (or more, or less) of the PROBLEM, but EVERY gallon of gas is based on the replacement cost of the fuel, not the actual cost of that particular gallon of fuel you are buying. That price is plucked straight from Wallstreet daily.
  15. Will the ratings be 50% off from last year because Tiger isn't in? I'd wager "YES" on that one. I'm probably a Sunday only guy this year...
  16. The drop continues. After the Bush Speech the market is up and oil prices are dropping. I'm not claiming he had a THING to do with it, but those of you who blame the down on Bush have to give him the creidt when it goes up. I watched the Daily show last night, which I almost never do, and I was amazed at how un-informed Stewart is. He was making fun of the President's mention of how a psycology change can impact the market. Yet the proof is in the pudding. He lifted the executive ban on drilling, which does nothing in effect because the congress has to act too, and just the thought of it sent the speculators running for profit-cover. I agree with the call of the firm UNTFlyer's friends work for. ...so do most sane people and people in the business. Yet the congress refuses to let us get to drilling. ...and this isn't a party thing. Yeah, it's basically all the Dems, but it's a good number of GOP members holding up this as well. DNC Talking point #756 800 Miles of pipeline already in place. ...do you really think adding an extra 50 or so miles for a feeder is that difficult?
  17. My Rides 2000 Chevy Camaro Z28 LS6 (347 Cubic Inch, 550 HP) 13.5 MPG City, 25 MPG Highway (before you tell me that is impossible, I've got a huge cam with a power band north of 4000 RPM, and a 4000 Stall Converter on a computer controlled car. ...if you don't have a clue what I just said, leave it alone...) Driven a couple of times a week to the office, (30 Mile Round Trip) weather permitting, and taken out for fun and to the track a couple of weekends a month. 1991 Chevy Camaro RS Carb'ed 383 (388 Cubic Inch, 350 HP) 13 MPG City, 15 MPG Highway. 4 Barrel Carb's are hell. Daily driven 30 mile round trip to and from the office, and any extra running around I might have to do on any given day. Wife's Rides 2004 Buick Rainier, Inline 6 (275 HP) 17 MPG Average, mostly City driving. Can get a little over 20 on the highway.
  18. It's all in the gearing... the sweet spot until the 80's was around 55. 3 Spd. automatics with no overdrives and 4 speed manual boxes were the choice of the time. 5-6 gear manual transmissons and 4, 5 and 6 speed auto transmissions push that sweet spot higher and higher.
  19. I like our new uniforms, new logos, everything - well, I'd rather see a green helmet, but I can live with white - ...but in the case of SMU, I like to see the return to the pony express uniform. I think it's a great change and will get some of their old fans a little fired up. ...Good Move.
  20. Any idea on price so we could start a "who's in" list? I'd be in for 2 most likely.
  21. People need to lighten up and go ahead and pull their heads on out of their collective a$$es. stupid to do that to him.
