Hey Look, The Stars Are Back

They have been playing really well lately. I was at the Redwings win a few weeks ago, and it seems to have been uphill from there. GO STARS!!! -
Tom Daschle
yyz28 replied to hickoryhouse's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
How is an amendment to the constitution be considered taking it out of the people's hands. "The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States" It takes 2/3rds majority vote in both houses and THEN 3/4 of majority of states must buy in. Term limits are needed badly in this country. It is the best way to get good people to capitol hill and would go a long way to getting the money and special interests in check. I say 2 terms for a senator (that's 12 years) and 6 for a representitive, that's also 12 years. If you can't get it done in 12 years, you're not going to get it done, so move over and get the @$%^ out of the way for someone who can. -

Trickle down DOES work. Rich don't sit on their money. They invest it. Investment creates new jobs and new business opportunities for new people to become Rich. Taxing capital gains and over-burdening business with high tax rates only hurts the people employed by and do business with by companies and individuals who get targeted. I agree with half of your second sentence. The government SHOULD NOT be spending on 85% of what it spends on. ...get the government spending for the purposes outlined for them to spend in the Constitution and watch the debt disappear in a biiiiiiiiiiiig friggin' hurry...

Well, I guess we're going to find out. ...IF coaches are willing to make the types of adjustments to the game plan as it appears they were willing to make for the first time on the recruiting plan, then we could really have an exciting season. May not translate to wins, but I'd LOVE to have the 2007 again - not many wins, but we saw some real tight games and a future. Anything beyond that will be gravy.

The idea that he might come here is laughable... ...but I wouldn't mind seeing him in Valley Ranch...

So, you think the Federal Government should be giving tax rebates because people pay local and state taxes? There is no national sales or property tax, and most people below the Federal income tax level aren't playing property taxes either. People who don't pay federal income taxes don't pay luxury taxes? ...and those who are in an economic situation that allows them not to be paying federal income taxes can afford to buy things that incur sin taxes? Corporations don't directly pay any taxes, you are right, they pass them on to the consumer. So if corporate tax rates go down, goods and services will cost less as the company doesn't have to charge as much to make the same amount of profit. This helps the end consumer. Increase taxes on Wal-Mart, and you increase the prices people pay when they shop at Wal-Mart. The class-warefare engaged in when Politicians try to get people to turn against "greedy companies who don't pay enough taxes" is classic. Anyone who supports tax increses on businesses support tax increases on consumers.

Obama Closes Gitmo
yyz28 replied to e-bone ver2.awesome's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Thank you... I often amaze even myself with my brilliance with regularity... Paragraph one is a commentary on my opinion of the selective use of the Constitution. Every point was right on and (based on the fact you didn't bother to argue them, only pretend like I was topic hijacking) difficult to debate. If expecting folks who cling to the Constitution for their arguments respect THE ENTIRE DOCUMENT and not use it when it is convinient and when it isn't claim its "living and breathing" is a hard turn right, then I'm guilty as charged. Well, Emmit... those statements are 1. True, and 2. Relevant. Let's start with #1. The people we're holding in Gitmo were captured in combat, outside the borders of the US and are not US Citizens. We're not rounding up random brown people living in this country or people who disagree with President Bush and holding them against their will at Gitmo, no matter how much you wish it were so in order to have a legitimate gripe, and... ...moving on to #2... ...THE PROTECTIONS IN THE U.S. CONSTITUTION DO NOT APPLY TO ENEMIES CAPTURED IN COMBAT, nor does it apply to non-US Citizens living outside the borders of the US. Does a French citizen have a right to due process in our court system for a crime committed in Paris? No. Did Nazi soldiers held in Europe by the allies have a right to due process in our court system? No. I rest my case. Terrorists captured in America have historically been held in federal jails and run through the justice system. That has worked Oh-So-Well for us thus far, don't you think? I don't give a crap if you're Muslim, Jewish, Christian, Hindu, Scientologist, Atheist, Agnostic, or if you still buy into the old Greek God system - The REAL strawman in this thread is your suggestion this is a racist thing, when it clearly isn't. Due process has never been promised to POW's, nor is it required in the Constitution. We hold POW's until the conflict is over so they won't return to the battlefield. This is how we have conducted war in this country since the founding. What is happening here is nothing new. It IS brilliant, and I thank you for noticing... I don't know who Eddie Izzard is, so I guess I won't argue that point. To qualify for the Geneva convention, you must be an organized soldier. I didn't write the tready. These aren't rules George W. Bush made up along the way. It's just the plain and simple fact. I see absolutly no problem with holding POW's off our soil and subjecting them to Military justice as we always have. -
Obama Closes Gitmo

Liberals whip out the Constitution when they think it fits their need, but are happy to dump on guns and line up in droves to vote for politicians who propose expanding government's power far beyond the power enumerated in said document, and when courts make up rights like "privacy" and "healthcare". No problem for most big Government libs to let the Federal Government crap all over states rights. It'll be interesting to hear what you libs have to say about the Constitution once the "Fairness Doctorine" talk gets going here soon. ...most of you still think it means freedom FROM religion, not freedom OF religion, but I digress... On this particular issue - The Constitution does not apply - these detainees are not Americans, they weren't captured on American soil, they are combatants fighting against our soldiers. The Constitution does not enumerate rights upon a military enemy. ...nor, frankly, does the Geneva convention apply. This is not an organized enemy or an opposing army or country we're dealing with here. No uniform = no geneva convention. As I said earlier in this thread - this is pandering to his lefties who got him in office. There is a reason he's given himself a year... he has lots of time to put these people someplace not CALLED Gitmo so it looks like he's changed the situation for the people we're holding. That's it. -

Yawn. ...he said he wants to close Gitmo in a year. It isn't closed yet. Don't expect it to be closed before we figure out what to do with the scum we have down there... don't be shocked if it never actually gets closed... -
Obama Sworn In Again
yyz28 replied to UNTflyer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
It was a good thing to do... it gives the "Obama's not a real american" kooks one less thing to build conspiracy theories around. Nuts on both sides would do well to STFU. Fight the politicians you don't like on their policies, let's not attack them peronally and make up conspiracies where there aren't any... -
Based on our recent history, an average recruiting class would be a good thing. Looks like we're somewhere between good and great (based on our history) so I'm willing to be happy with that.

"you're Gonna Love My Nuts..."
yyz28 replied to UNTflyer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I want to be in that meeting... Boss - "So, we've got these products, and we're thinking mini-infomercial style of advertising. We need a "Billy Mayes" type of announcer, but we don't have the budget." Staffer - "Well, Vince in accounting has a facial disfigurement and has a strikingly annoying voice all packaged with a bad New York accent, but he gets laid more than Hugh Hefner, so he must be a halfway decent salesman..." ...and the rest was history. Now, if you'll excuse me I have to go dry off my Slap Chop with my Shamwow. -
Breaking: Life Exists On Mars
yyz28 replied to UNTflyer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Life elsewhere in the universe is not a particular surprise. HUGE amount of space, there is no WAY we're the only ones. -
We can all bitch and moan about the situation, but the fact remains - Dodge is HERE for at least this next football season. Let's do what we can to help him succeed, and support he and the team next year and evaluate him based on the performance on the field. ...if there is Improvement (I'm not asking for miracles, but we should see marked improvement in all areas and no blowouts to other mid-majors) then he should get his 4th year. If we see a similar situation that we saw this year, he should be gone. If he's not headed in the right direction by the 3rd year, there is no reason to think he'll turn this around.

1 - 7 are all false. 8 - 10 are all true. Easy Test...

I'm not attacking anyone, but 0-12 was a distinct possiblity with Gio on the roster, based on what our record was in 2008 (when it was a defensive play that won the single game we pulled off...). I'm not sure what his departure really does for us in the W/L columns. I guess I see this differently than some. I like Gio, he's a good talent and a great leader. ...but if he doesn't want to be here, it is best for everyone involved that he moves on. This may be a set-back, it may not. Only time will tell. We can only thank him for the hard work and heart he put into this program and wish him the best for the future, and then get behind whoever replaces him for our program.

I second this great post. Good Look Gio! Thanks for your hard work and for representing UNT so well.

Spend money to make money doesn't work at the Government level. Never has, espcially when you're printing money to spend, thus creating inflation. Economics 101. Poor needing pills was covered in Medicare/Medicaid before the PDP was put in place. The PDP allows retirees who are in GREAT financial shape to have the Government pick up the cost of their pills. Its nice to want to "take care" of the less fortunate, but when the govnerment spends and spends and spends what it doesn't have (like it has) and put more and more of a burden on the producers (like it has) it will eventually all collapse. All you have to do is realize that the top 50% of wage earners pay 97% of the taxes in this country and it becomes pretty clear that we're REALLY close to having 1 contributor per 1 on the government till. We can't sustain that as a socieity for long - the entire system and the economy collapses. ...then who's gonna take care of the poor guy who needs a vial of heart meds?
