  1. Ok... let's play that game... Let's say the average car sold was 30K. Proably wasn't that much, but let's go with it, and then lets say the average comission on the sale is 5%. I KNOW the car business and it ISN'T that high, but let's go with it so I can be as fair to you on this one as possible. 700,000 cars, times 30,000 is 21 billion in sales. Now, let's assume the average comission is 5%, which works out to $1,050,000,000 in comission. Now, let's say that these fine folks are in the 25% tax bracket. Again, probably not, but I'm trying to make this as heavily to your argument as possible... BEST possible return to the treasury in income taxes as a result of this program is $262,500,000 or a quarter of a billion dollars on a program with a $3,000,000,000 price tag. Now, consider that the program cost about $220,000,000 to run based on the most recent estimates, and this $3 BILLION dollar program made the treasury $42 Million Dollars. To put it another way, the govnerment earned $42 dollars for every $3000 spent. That isn't a good investment in anyone's book, not even the most LAME investor. ...now, consider the following - A clunker vehicle at 15 mpg and 12,000 miles per year uses 800 gallons a year of gasoline. A more fuel efficient vehicle at 25 mpg and 12,000 miles per year uses 480 gallons a year. So, the average clunker transaction will reduce US gasoline consumption by 320 gallons per year. They claim 700,000 vehicles - so that's 224 million gallons / year. That equates to a bit over 5 million barrels of oil. 5 million barrels of oil is about ¼ of one day's US consumption. And, 5 million barrels of oil costs about $350 million dollars at $75/bbl. So, we all contributed to spending $3 billion to save $350 million. How good a deal was that ??? What other measurable would you and eeally like us to look at to determine how well this progam worked? It was a bust, guys. Plain and simple. ...they'll probably do a great job with health care though!!
  2. that's how my wife and I have always felt, but what was going on tonight was simply embarassing.
  3. I didn't think this game was loaded with mistakes... There were certainly some, but the first half was played virtually error free. ...and when you consider the conditions, neither team could have been expected, nor did they, play a slop free clean game. Losing is frustrating, especially like this, but this team is SO FAR beyond what it was last year. I'm VERY excited about this season. We can hang with anyone in our league. Defense looks downright good, and the offense will keep improving. ...the point that we can be 1-5 is true... ...but we could also be 3-3 6 games into the season as well. Let's keep our chins up.
  4. yup... I've always enjoyed sitting on the student side and have continued to do so, but I told my wife on the way home those days are over as a result of what went on in the student section tonight. ...the Ohio team WAS taunting the student section when they started the chant, but it is still TOTALLY unexcusable. I was very disappointed in the students this evening, in light of how much heart the team showed. I admire the fire, which I haven't ever really seen our of our students, but this was simply unacceptable.
  5. I'm there +1 at least, rain or shine.
  6. Now we're up to 70% chance from daybreak until 7PM when the chance drops to - 60%. Whee!
  7. Oh, good... so maybe it will be done by the 12th anniversary. ...It has just taken entirely too long and been far too much of a bicker-fest. This would have been my preferred design:
  8. Why do we still have a giant hole in the ground in Lower Manhattan? ...the utimate victory is to rebuild the buildings the way they were, only about 10 stories taller. I'd even take one of those ugly memorials at this point, but it's time to bring ground zero back.
  9. The Navy game takes the first place for me... THAT was frustrating...
  10. Lowest % chance of rain right now is 40% at 6PM tomorrow night, and it starts climbing to 60% by 8PM. Just come prepared for the rain. ...but come.
  11. Thanks for the Transcript!
  12. I hope their team comes in thinking this is an off week.
  13. That's almost as cool as UNT football. LOL!
  14. I have worn contacts for 20 years (damn, I'm getting old) and have done well with them. Different brands have done better for me. Biomedics have been my best, Accuvue have been my worst. I change mine out every 14 days, and you MUST take them out every day. I'm probably going to do the Lasik thing next year, but overall contacts have been great.
  15. That is EXCELLENT. Very creative.
  16. I just hope for gameplay like we saw on Thursday, with a few less mistakes. If we get it, I expect we will win. ...but Ohio is a better team (right now) than Ball State is right now, but I think we're a better team than we played like on Thursday if we can calm down the mental errors. I hope some of that was just first game jitters. I look for a close game and I hope for a UNT win, though I'm not quite ready to predict that will happen.
  17. That's very classy that they do that... EXCELLENT! They are a great group of fans. Mid majors need to stick together, man. We have to play hard to beat each other on the field, but we should all be on the same page off the field. There is strength in numbers! GO MEAN GREEN!!!
  18. Well, if you took UNT and the under, you look like a pro gambler right about now..
  19. what's going on? Espn gamecast hasn't updated since we had the ball last
  20. Nice stop. Better 3 than 6.
  21. This fieldgoal thing is getting frustrating. Too many missses opportunities, but at least we have opportunities.
  22. I'll be following it on WIFI on the airplane (Thank you, Air Tran, for having Free WIFI on your flights now) on my way to DFW from Baltimore. Gonna TIVO it so I can watch it this weekend when I have some time.
  23. I'm looking forward to the dead elephant.
