  1. Damn, don't let Context get in the way of attacking someone you don't like. Rush's statement on the attacks being made on him - "I did not say, 'Don't make donations.'. I said private donations are going to be much better than a government donation. Go to the Red Cross, do other things, but don't go through the government. It's just going to go through hands and bureaucracies and $1 is going to end up being $0.30 by the time they get through with it." Rush also commented on the call by Obama for George W. Bush and Bill Clinton to jump in and help and how the Media would try and compare the response to the disaster in Haiti to Katrina - He may be right or wrong about this prediction, but it certainly isn't belittling or making light of the situation in Haiti. In fact, (and it was there before Keith Overbite opened his mouth last night), he has a huge banner at the top of his website with information on how to donate and get news on the relief effort in Haiti.
  2. Debate was good, and UNT got some nice press. Good job!
  3. Yup... True dat. Fact - Many banks (Wells Fargo comes to mind) objected to TARP and didn't want or need it in the first place. Fact - Most of the bank money from TARP has been paid back, with interest. Fact - All of the original TARP money hasn't even been spent. ...but don't let the facts get in the way of the talking points that promote class envy and warfare. Regarding the move on the healthcare bill, here's the deal that was put together overnight. If you have one of the so called "Cadillac Plans" and are part of a Union, you will not have to pay the surtax. If you have one of the so called "Cadillac Plans" and are NOT part of a union, you WILL have to pay the surtax. ...yeah, that's fair. The Surtax is a bad idea in the first place, but this is epic. I don't know how ANYONE supports this bill anymore on any side. Let me see if I understand this. If I pay for an expensive comprehensive plan to protect my family, the goverment is now going to make it harder for me to afford to give my family the quality healthcare I'm providing for them today? Isn't this about IMPROVING healthcare? ...or is it really about paying back political supporters?
  4. Thanks for the reply. I don't agree with some of your conclusions, but I won't argue them here... Thanks for taking the time to continue the conversation!
  5. Yeah, it's an under reported story. Here's how it works. If your company recieves stimulus money and you hire 4 people, but give 10 other people a raise, or simply fund their existing payroll with stimulus money allowing you to free up other dollars to do other things, the government gets to count 14 new jobs. They get to count jobs people already have as new jobs. That's a neat trick, isn't it?
  6. Well, I'm glad to hear this. Good Luck to Todd Ford, and I hope he does well in the future. ...now, the $64,000 question - will Dodge take advantage of this and really upgrade his staff, or will he just shuffle the existing staff and keep himself in charge of the offense? I hope he takes this as an opportunity to really improve his situation.
  7. I'm looking for a response to how you feel about the the President's job regarding the specific issues I posted on the first page of this thread. I don't really care about the talking points, as they have been hashed and argued to the n'th degree.
  8. The articles are funny, the comments are better. LOL!
  9. So, I guess no serious discussion? Anyone?
  10. Ok, in all fairness, here's a short list of items I think were hot buttons in the election for many of the true libs, and would like a score card on how you think the president has done on them and why you feel that way. ...and I'm looking for response from folks who self identify as a liberal, not an independant. 1. The Healthcare Bill as currently structured, as best you understand it right now. 2. The wars in Iraq and Afganistan. 3. The decision to try the 9/11 attackers in civillian/criminal courts. 4. The closing of (or the plans to close) Gitmo. I look forward to seeing your responses.
  11. That's already legal in Oregon.
  12. If we use logic, science and fact, then yes we can. ...so obviouslly the answer to your question is "NO!".
  13. Why? This whole thing is stupid. I don't care if there is a doube standard, I'm tired of gotcha politics. Trent Lott shouldn't have been drumed out of the leadership because he complimented someone at their 100th birthday party. Joe Wilson shouldn't be shoved out of office for calling the President a Liar. (true or not) Harry Reid should not be made to resign from his leadership role or his seat for these comments. We shouldn't be spending our time scoreboarding and getting slam dunks because someone said something that A. isn't that inappropriate and B. was probably not so bad when you consider the context. We should instead be concerned with and talking about the ideas in these peoples heads and the agenda they are trying to push. In this case Reid is trying to push an agenda I believe is very dangerous for this country. This non-issue is a distraction from that and even if drumed out, the next Democrat in line for his spot is going to take the issue and run with it. I'd like to leave the score borading and gotcha politics to the Democrats and rise above it personally. Let's quit treating politics like a high-school gotcha game.
  14. Verily, this be our concern, Knave. ...that's some funny stuff man.
  15. Texas by 7 or less. HOOK 'EM!
  16. K state coming here would be pretty impressive...
  17. ...somehow I think I'd manage as well... Funny post on the fix though.
  18. If TCU played that game against Texas, Florida, Iowa, 'Bama or any of the other teams they would have faced had the pairing gone the way we all wanted it to, the result would have been the same. They didn't play well, and were simply outclassed by Boise State, and i believe would be outclassed by ANY of the other teams (except maybe Cincy) who made a BCS Bowl. ...now, I admit, they didn't play to their potential. They are better than they showed last night, I have no doubt, but I don't believe for one second they are better than our could beat Texas, Florida or Alabama. ...and Quoner, it's not the pairing of TCU and Boise that sucks, it is the entire system where the teams like Boise who won last night and has an undefeated season won't have a chance to be in the title picture. I have no problem with the pairing, but I certainly think it sucks that Boise doesn't get to play whoever wins the game on Thursday night to determine which of the undefeated teams are better and deserve the title.
  19. That clip has to be the most versatile thing ever filmed. No matter what sports calamity we can come up with, someone's applied it to that clip. Classic.
  20. Where are all the folks who were on this board at the end of the regular season talking about how TCU got the shaft and how they could beat Texas, Florida or 'Bama any day? ...just askin'.
  21. The practice won't stop until the NCAA or the 'Belt steps in and stops it with a rule change. ...why would they stop something that has worked for them? ...and I'm not on the "let's do it too" bandwagon.
  22. A lot of people know UNT because of its music school. Often when I tell people from out of state that I went to North Texas I get a "Man, they have an awesome music school" response. ...I'm not saying UNT IS a Music school, first last and always, but the Music department has been a big part of UNT's history, and is still one of the biggest and best music schools in the country. ...and I'm a COBA alum - I wasn't a part of the school of music aside from the Brigade, in the interest of full disclosure.
  23. Well, I think we're in the minority on this one, but I agree. Video Eagle - Current marching styles feature formations that are way more difficult today than they were in the 60's and 70's and at every level I played at (High School, State and DCI) we were required to memorize our music. The Green Brigade marches their show without sheet music, so I'm not sure what you're talking about there. Lots of bands today DO "Park and Blow" but the better HS Bands and the Green Brigade certainly don't. ...now, what the Brigade DOES do, which is a bit unusual for the College level is park and play for the Dance Team - Drill Teams/Dance Teams aren't a college level norm. ...it should also be noted that at the college level, (at least when I was involved) we learned like 3 separate shows during the season, unlike High School where you learn one show over the period of the entire semester with the intent to compete. At UNT, we learned a show that was short and we played for maybe 2 or 3 games at most if there was a road game we'd travel to, so the marching formations were never as complex as they were in the High School or DCI level, but the music was every bit as complex if not more so. UNT is a music school, and the Band a part of that College. You should expect to continue to see the Green Brigade on the cutting edge of marching band evolution - That IS our tradition. That's a good thing if we intend to be one of the best producers of band directors in the country.
  24. We'll have to agree to disagree. I wasn't impressed with OSU's halftime presentation and the suit and tie uniform does nothing for me, personally. Oregon's music and playing was great, though the super casual sweat suit uniform was really pathetic for the Rose Bowl, I agree. I DO agree that the pre-game leaves a bit to be desired, but since the new stadium won't have a track, there will be a change there due to necessity. I like a more modern look feel and sound, but then again, that's the world I grew up in and was a part of. When I was in HS and College and since I've continued to follow Drum and Bugle Corps nobody who was taken seriously in competition ran around high-stepping. Hell, you can't play (especially a brass instrument) worth a darn if you're high stepping.
