  1. To me it's the "give 'em an inch, they'll take a mile" argument. I simply don't trust our federal government to do what is right, and things like this have a tendency to turn into a slippery slope. ...further, what constitutional right does this or any President have to create a whole new bureaucracy by Executive order?
  2. The context doesn't really change the meaning of the quote. I'm not sure what the debate is about. We need to know what is in it before we pass it. ...the problem is, the people already know what is in it and don't like it by a 2-1 margin.
  3. Purdue doesn't sound like much fun to me...
  4. it is a shame to have these things happen, and they seem to happen far too often to folks who once had it all...
  5. I've only been treated well in Austin, so I can't agree with the UT thing. Actually, I've found, for the most part, unless you are being a douche in the first place, people won't be douchy in return.
  6. I've never seen an administration actively try to piss off as many demographic groups as possible. It's like they are trying to get thrown out of office after one term. It is the darnedest political strategy I've ever seen.
  7. Rep added for the best story of the day! Thanks GB!
  8. it is really going to be bittersweet this year. I'm very much looking forward to the new stadium, but we've all had a lot of good (and tough) times in Fouts. It's going to be a sad moment for me when the final tick comes off the clock at the Kansas game next year.
  9. This +1.
  10. Clearly the Sarcasm Detector isn't working properly today...
  11. ...that's a real sad deal. I feel real bad for his family.
  12. Brittany says the worst pickup line she's ever heard is "Have you got a keg in your pocket? Because I’d like to tap that!" ...I'm a bit offended, but I was REALLY drunk that night. I should apologize if I ever see her again.
  13. Rick and P1 with rep added today.. Nice work Gentlemen!
  14. While technically legal, Reconciliation has never been used to thwart the apparent will of the American People. Reconciliation is generally reserved for getting budgets and tax issues through, and in what research I could find, hasn't been used ever before to pass a social program of any scale, much less a game changer like this one. While I think they will most likely make this move, I'm not sure it will be successful. The fear in the ranks are the same as in the fear of the leadership. The leadership is willing to take a major hit in November because of what passing this bill does for their long term power base. ...but will individual democrats sacrifice their careers to throw Obama a bone? It will be interesting to see. If they push forward with this, I would expect to see protests all over the country and capital hill like this generation has never seen.
  15. Rob - The conclusion that the temperature is higher not a fact, which is the whole point of this article. The author states: "But that's the intellectual state of the union these days, as evidenced by all the people who still don't believe the president was born in Hawaii or that the planet is warming" ...the evidence that points to the planet getting warmer, which has been debated in other threads and really doesn't need to be rehashed in this one, can be countered by reasonable doubt as to why much of the evidence points that direction, and further is contradicted by evidence that parts of the planet are actually cooling. The actual numbers that track global temps during the period of time that we have been tracking such statistics is very much in doubt. So even in this thread, here's you stating something is a fact that can be debated, and here's me debating it. We can all agree the climate is changing (because that's what it does - and it did it for millinia (sp?) before we showed up 'round here - but to conclude its doing any one thing based on the evidence available today is a bit short sighted. ...in my OPINION.
  16. ...Am I supposed to laugh because this is an upgrade or a downgrade? ...cause either way, I'm laughin'. ROBO-DOH! ...I'm still trying to catch my breath.
  17. Attempting a burnout in a front wheel drive car is sorta gay anyways. Perhaps he should have upgraded the clutch. ...I guess he can now.
  18. No, you win the last word award. This was so funny, I decided to stop debating. LOL!! Classic.
  19. I expect a near repeat of last year. Some REAL moments of brilliance, some solid slumps. Things that make you feel like things are starting to go in the right direction, but not enough to get over the hump. I expect a winning season, but not enough to make the playoffs.
  20. It is getting a tad bit old, isn't it? ...and in the case where toll roads are paid for with tolls, the toll booths remain LONG after the road is paid for. Taxation is taxation, no matter what hidden name you put on it.
  21. Yes.. YYZ IS the master song of them all. ...though Tom Sawyer, if we're gonna go Rush, is probably a little more pump-up-ish? ...and we do have that Von Erich connection at UNT so it sort of works...
  22. I had the exact same reaction when I read this list. Interesting how on par, for the most part, we seem to be with the WAC.
  23. I was forced to add reputation to UNTFan23 for this post.
  24. I think Texas leaving the Big XII is about as likely as North Texas winning a National Title next year.
