What was that comment about Tune? Is he possibly going to get a medical RS?
-
I don't think he needs to be reassigned until the season is over. Make the announcement, let him finish the season and then reassign him at the end if the season. I enjoyed reading this. Thank you Coach Dodge. Keep the positive attitude, and keep up the fight until it is over!

Would A New Coach Right Now Make Sense?
yyz28 replied to Travis Scott's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm inclined to agree that you inform him now, make it public, let him finish the year and then re-assign him next year and bring in a new coach. I understand the advantage of getting it done now so we have the time to get a new coach, etc. ...but there is no reason not to let Dodge finish his season, especially since none of his assiatants are likely the guy they are going to get. -
I think how much of the existing staff remains is up to the new coach. I'm on board with whatever he feels is best.
-
Huh?!?!?!? But.... You.... But he....

This post +1. I'll defend RV because I personally believe he's the reason we've had the progression our programs have seen over the past 10 years. ...but NO FAN owes any other fan an explanation for how he supports the program or how he prioritized his finances. If you're on this board, you're a fan and owe nobody an explanation for why you don't do more.

Actually, at 6-1, Terry's doin' WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than us. ...but he would be a HUGE hire for us. Proven head coach, RECENT record of success, and no baggage.
-
Seriously?!?! It is RV's efforts that have delivered virtually all new athletic facilities since he came on campus! When he got here, in SPITE of 100 years of history (some of you are acting like the fact we have a history gives us an advantage over the schools who don't, when based on how our history was handled, it is actually a dis-advantage) has overseen 4 conference championships in football, the most success NT basketball has ever seen and virtually constant success in the other sports on campus. We started construction of the stadium in the midst of the worst economy in decades, and yet as it goes up, folks on here continue to bitch about how it is being funded, and credit the STUDENTS alone for the vote to (finally) fund our athletic programs? No credit for the campaign waged by RV and the athletic department to get the students on board in the midst of a crappy economy, terrible football performance and a HUGE amount of anti-fee politial pressure on campus. I'm grateful to the majority of students who bothered to show up and vote said yes. ...but it isn't like the 2009 student body as a whole (or as a half, or quarter, or eighth) gave a thumbs up to the stadium... ...but RV and his team had the enthusiam on their side - something else he deserves credit for. I understand some of the frustration of the fan base; I share it. ...but the attacks on RV are simply unfounded and are based not in fact, but in emotional reaction to the fact that everyone is pissed that we have a bad coaching situation right now.
-
That may be the worst analogy ever used on this board...
-
This is really the only question that matters...
-
Well, lots of anger here. I think the attack on RV is just silly and strikes me as rather uninformed. Measuring his performance in a context vacuum is kinda stupid. If you don't see how positive RV has been for UNT athletics, then you really don't have an understanding of the history here. Even the Dodge hire seemed like a home run at the time. The VAST majority of the fan base supported the hire (myself included) and the local media. It didn't work out, now he needs to make a change and will. What else do you want an AD to do?

That is my vote as well...

Interesting Story
yyz28 replied to HoustonEagle's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Yes, you ignored the fact that Goverment regulation compelled banks to lend money to people who couldn't afford it. ...sayin'. ...and no, I don't think the Banks are innocent. -

#1 - UNT #2 - Texas - Spent my childhood as a UT fan, spent lots of time as a kid in Austin and on Campus with family living near campus, going to games. I know it is popular on this board to hate Texas, but I just can't. #3 - USC - Yeah, I know, you all hate me now... Dad went to USC so I was raised on USC football. #4 - Mizzou - See #3, but it's my Mom instead. #5 - TCU & Boise (or any mid-major ruining the BCS Picnic) - For obvious reasons - If things could go our way for 10 minutes for a change, I think we're as much as sleeping giant as these guys were not that long ago. Any Mid-Major crashing the party makes me happy #6 - Texas Tech - Had lots of friends who went there, and enjoyed some time out there (notably in the late 90's when we went out there to kick their ass... twice) and love the environment out there. Hard not to pull for 'Tech. #7 - Anyone Playing SMU #8 - Anyone Playing Notre Dame #9 - Anyone Playing an SEC Team #10 - Anyone Playing OU -
This type of thread. We have multiple fire dodge now, dodge is a classy guy, who should be the replacement coach, give him till the end of the season threads on this board already. Post in one of them if you have an opinion. There is no need at this point to start a new thread on the subject unless you're trying to stir the pot or you think your opinion should be heard a bit louder than the one contained within said threads.

We never give SMU credit for anything. Ever. Bad Harry!

Interesting. Wish we knew a bit more about the rest of the story. Where's Paul Harvey when you need him?

North Texas Coach Todd Dodge Wouldn't Have His Son
yyz28 replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
I am on board with a re-assignment for Coach Dodge. I'm not sure if he would be on board, but I would be happy to see him as a part of the UNT Family for a long time to come, if not at the position of Head Coach. The attempt to compare Dickey and Dodge is strained at best. They were two different guys with two very different personalities. ...Dickey did in fact deliver 4 conference championships, wins ooc, and bowl appearances. ...despite this great run, there were always rumblings about his behaivior out in public and there is documented evidence of his negative rumblings about the AD, the University and the Fans. None of this makes him a bad guy, just a bad fit to be the Head Coach of our football program, but more importantly to me, means he really shouldn't have anything to do with the program except for in the history books. Dodge, on the other hand, has an absolutely clean record regarding his public face as the Head Coach of the football team, but he hasn't delivered the wins we have all expected of him. This doesn't make him a bad guy, just a bad fit to be the Head Coach of our football program. ...however, the overwhelming evidence of his feelings about NT and this program, which are magnified by this interview, cause me no hesitation to be a part of North Texas and the program moving forward in some other capacity. Dodge has been a class act, and I expect he's going to take his lumps like a man, and walk off of the UNT campus for the last time with his head held high - he did his honest best. It wasn't good enough, but while he was here, he treated this University and the program with the utmost respect and he did the best he could to make this work. In the reality of the business of football, this isn't enough to keep your job - it's about wins and losses - but it IS enough to earn the respect and admiration of the fanbase and the peers who he has worked for and with during his tenure here. I, for one, am proud to say that Todd Dodge has been a part of UNT, and I hope he continues to be a part of UNT even if he is relieved of his duties as Head Coach. -
Damned federal employees. I agree with Rick. I've always felt this is a myth. But I'm still a NO vote with Canales as Coach, interim or not.

Hey, happy birthday Rick! Great seeing you Saturday evening, as usual! Enjoy your day!
