A&M is looking more and more like they shot themselves in the foot every day this thing moves forward. ...and TCU > ATM any day of the week. -
A Big Thank You To SoundManEric From The Mean Green Nation
yyz28 replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
We are fortunate to have Rick and Eric and some of the other folks who have MADE TIME (something I can't say I've always done) to go the extra mile for our University. Their efforts should not go over-looked. I don't want to Bash the Talons and I won't - but the University/Athletic Department should make maintaining our traditions a Priority. When we DO have the shoestring budget we've had for years at UNT, the things that are donated, restored or fixed out of the goodness of someone's heart and their love for the University, they should be protected and the UNIVERSITY, not a student organization should be responsible and thus held accountable for their maintenance and condition. Thanks to Rick, Boomer is an amazing piece that every UNT fan can take pride in, yet Rick is called upon over and over and over to fix it... not because it requires maintenance and repair from time to time as a result of proper use, but usually because someone has damaged something due to mis-use. Eric here has restored the bell - but how long will this hard work be a shining symbol of UNT without some sort of oversight. ...and don't get me started on the Model A. That's a piece of automotive history for starters, and without the ties it has to UNT, its allowed deterioration is criminal... but now combine that with the fact that it is a symbol of OUR SCHOOL and has been abused and is in shambles. Truly a shame. I try not to complain much about our Administration and the AD, as they have brought our athletic programs to places many of us have only dreamed possible, particularly in the past few years - but this is a MAJOR failure of both the University Administration and by extension the Athletic Department, and I hope now that some of the BIG stuff has been taken care of, maybe we can finally focus on some details at UNT. -

They should just rename it the Big Region-Neutral. -
Happy Belated Rick! Can't thank you enough for all that you do! Hope you had a good one!

The lack of the walkway over 35 is a bit of a PITA, agreed. ...but I don't think it is being handled badly at all. If it's that big a deal to you, ante up, pay the 20 if you don't have a parking pass and park out on the grass lot next to the stadium. No biggie. My larger complaint is the fact that when leaving if you're on the North side of the stadium, you can't turn left, and thus you have to go all the way to 380 if you're going south, or you can't cut through town and get back to campus if you want to go by one of the bars for a post game beer. The first opportunity you have to turn back into Denton is at 380 and 35. ...but I can deal, its not that big a PITA.

I happen to like my black UNT stuff.

Unt ring
yyz28 replied to mattmartin817's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I've got Gold, non-antiqued, with the green stone. The official ring sort of has an Aggie-Ring look, so the green stone sort of sets it off compared to that ring. I wear mine every day, and have since I graduated in 1999. -
Gotta get rid of Romo
yyz28 replied to FirefightnRick's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I'm sorry, I didn't catch that last post, I was busy chasing down a pre-maturely snapped football. ...premature snapping. Perhaps Viagra would help? -
...beat me to it...

We could go ahead and discuss how Conference Realignment will impact seat spacing in Apogee Stadium.

Thanks for the info. Even when we've had Season Tix in the past we've sat in the Student section because we always have more than 2 with us at the game. ...plus the wings are there as a last resort if we sell out... (I can hope, right?)
-
So, in the days of old, if you were a student or student guest, essentially the student side of Fouts was First come first served. Is this still how it is, or is it assigned seating for students now? Just curious. We have a big crowd coming this weekend, so wondering where we'll be able to find a spot to sit together, as my two assigned seats won't give us enough space. Thanks!

Do we HAVE to?!?! UGH. Ok. UNT - 17 BAMA - 52 I'm not sure what makes me thing we score 17 except that they drop down to cruise control with their 3rd string somewhere in the 3rd quarter... Here's hoping.

Gotta get rid of Romo
yyz28 replied to FirefightnRick's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Is Romo great? Not consistently, no. ...but he shows real moments of greatness. I agree that while the local media and most fans are dumping on Romo, he certainly isn't the only thing that cost us that game. Here is what I think really cost us the game, and in no particular order... 1. Defense - I'm not blasting the Defense, and YES, they played VERY WELL for a good portion of the game. ...but they are beat up, the secondary is weak, they got rolled on that drive during the late 3rd quarter. Plaxico is twice the size of that defender that was covering him... Ryan is doing an AMAZING JOB with what he has, and I think the defense will be really clicking by the end of the season and that if we have a good draft and free agency, it could be a premier unit next year. ...but allowing that drive that steamrolled the defense like they weren't on the field was a big part of the loss Sunday. 2. Coaching/Dez Bryant - why the hell was he on the field if he couldn't move? It was allowing the Jets defense to single him and double Austin and Ogletree. I don't blame Dez for trying. I blame Coaches for keeping him out there. We have receiver depth. That was a dumb move. 3. Tony Romo - I'm not prepared to jump on him so much about the fumble. Even the greatest players get the ball punched out from time to time He was trying to make something happen. Yeah, he probably should have thrown it out of the back of the end zone, but not a SOUL here would be bitching about this had his knee hit the turf .0001 seconds sooner. It wouldn't have even made the highlight reel. ...that interception at the end while trying to force the ball to an injured Dez Bryant WAS ROMO-FAIL. ...that said, he was 23/36, threw for 342 yards, 2 touchdowns and a QB rating of 101.9. Houston POUNDS the Colts with Matt Shaub, who threw for 220 yards, 1 TD and TWO interceptions with a rating of 78.5. 4. O-LINE & Running Game - 64 rushing yards? Non-Existant Pocket? ...the game was placed on Romo early on, and he HAD to pass to advance the ball. ...then Dez got hurt. ...combine that with a young and pretty weak offensive line, and what do you REALLY expect of Romo under that circumstance? Romo was part of what went wrong the other night, but he wasn't the only thing going against us while playing a team that on paper should be better than us. No moral victories, but if the O-Line can give Romo just a BIT more protection and the Defense continues on the track they looked to be on the other night, the Cowboys could have a really nice season. -
Houston has always been second fiddle to Dallas anyways when it comes to football. Cowboys > Oilers Cowboys > Texans Texans = Ripped off name from Dallas Team TCU/SMU/UNT > HOUSTON/RICE Apogee > Anything Rice or Houston can muster Texas Stadium > Astrodome Cowboy's Stadium > Reliant Stadium ...and to continue... Six Flags > Astroworld DFW > Bush Intercontinental Dallas Traffic > Houston Traffic Dallas Weather > Houston Weather Dallas Galleria > Houston Galleria ...it really isn't a contest. So come on up from the ass-crack of the state, enjoy our hospitality in our beautiful new stadium, and win or lose, I don't have to go back to Houston.

Arkstafan's Realignment Thoughts - Belt Picks Up one
yyz28 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
That's a good article. Everyones guess is as good as any at this point, and Texas is acting like a bi-polar 16 year old with ADD, so it's hard to figure any of this out without knowing what they are going to do... -
great shirts, but they will clash with my kelly green UNT hats. I seriously wish we could pick a color. (not a shot at gmg.com, as I'll probably buy a shirt, dark green or kelly green aside, it just never ends...)

Look - I think it's easy to hit the panic button after this game. There were some REAL screwups on all sides of the ball and by the coaching staff... ...but let's not forget - they are playing freshmen at key positions for a reason. Other than that first quarter, once the team settled down, the DEFENSE won the remainder of the football game. Now, I can't tell you the last time I've been able to say that about this football team. Hell, the DEFENSE scored 16 points. You combine last year's offense with that defense, and we win most games we play. ...so, the $64,000 question is what in the name of GOD happened to the offense? Well, Same OC as last year, who really did some impressive stuff the second half of the season, so no change there in scheme. QB change, and a pretty major one. Went from a QB that was a threat in every way to having a tall slow more prototypical QB instead of a mobile guy, so the opposing DLINE didn't have to worry about the QB hauling ass, and could key in on Lance alone. ...Receivers dropping EVERYTHING in a sloppy wet game. Lance handed his ass (just like he was last year) by a DC and defensive squad that has his number. To me, it was just a whole lot of stuff going wrong that caused the defense to be absolutely impotent. Bottom line, you have the defense even show a SIGN of life in the first quarter and then have an offense that was marginally as effective as they were last year, and you would have had a game we were right in the middle of. As much of a beating that we've had as fans over the past stretch of years, its REAL hard to see the upside to a loss like this when we all have been drinking the Kool-Aid all off season, we're fired up about our new Football Palace and I think by and large, universally like the coaching staff on paper. ...but give this team a little time before we judge how this new project is working out. I see a coach who is pissed off and not making any excuses. This is a pretty big change around here.

Well, I dunno. To each their own. With the exception of the Maryland Uni which is just a hack job, the rest I think are sharp. ...and the carbon fiber look on oregon's helmet is sick. ...and I could give a crap what we're wearing if our players were being hoisted up by the students like that Maryland player was. REALLY could care less if we are winning. Green, White, Black... Shit, I don't care if we look like an Artichoke. JUST WIN!

the event was great. ...ESPN 3 is a bit weak, but hey, nobody can do much about that! Nice meeting you Grant! Disappointed I had to come early and leave late as we had commitments at my daughter's school and had to get kids in bed, but I'm glad I got out there! I'm looking forward to drinking the Alabama game away with you guys!

Difficult situation... New coach usually means the fan base will be ok not getting riled as a result of an embarrassing loss. ...but this has been a long string of down years, and the idea of another is darn hard to swallow. I'm in for the long haul... But this sucked.
