I don't know why Denton Locals would be allowed to camp on UNT property. ...and when I was a student, I certainly didn't have the freedom to live on campus in a tent Rent-Free. It just shouldn't have been allowed. It's really a shame this young man died. I would be sad for him and his family regardless of location, but this mess being on the UNT campus and that mistake being compounded by university resources being expended on a memorial service for someone in no way associated with the University is just crazy.

I don't want to use this thread as a point by point, but the ideas he is offering is a return to the principals of Reagan, which most certainly is NOT the stuff the Republican party has been saying since Reagan left office. The two Republican presidents since him have been moderate to progressives when it came to spending, domestic and economic issues. Cut the size of government, cut spending, address, despite the difficulty in doing so the entitlement programs that without major reform collapse in the near term, let business compete better on a world wide basis and make the US an attractive place for business to thrive. These are his ideas. While they not be "new" in the sense of never though of before, they paint a stark picture to what President Obama will be able to present in a debate format. I honestly believe this campaign will come down to the debates as a result of the economy which has now been strung around the President's neck. If he seems to have some real NEW ideas, not more class welfare and government spending, if he moderates like Clinton did, he MAY have a shot. ...if he keeps on this class warfare routine and his solution is more deficit spending, then the Republicans could nominate Porky Pig and beat him. ...Like I said, he isn't my first choice, but the "conventional wisdom" that counts him out in the general is nonsense, in my opinion.

I think any democrat who presumes Gingrich is cannon fodder does so at their own peril. If you've actually paid any attention to many of the long format interviews he has given, you'd see that he's open about discussing bad decisions and errors in judgement in his past. ...the most telling thing about Newt is that people know him. They already know the dirt, much of it manufactured or magnified, and yet in every major poll he's leading the Republican race AND beating Obama. Nancy thinks she's got dirt on him that's going to impact the race? The single most unpopular politician in America is going to be the person who's going to release the dirt and be taken seriously by anyone other than her nut riders who already drink the kool-aid? ...and when it comes down to a debate with Obama, Gingrich would eat his lunch. ...because Gingrich has Ideas, and Obama's got the same sorry line and blame everyone else crap he's been laying on all of us since the 2008 campaign, only now he has a dismal record too. Gingrich isn't my first choice, but I'm certainly not concerned that he can't perform against Obama. ...and I'm happier than a pig in slop when I hear the Democrats acting like they can't lose if he gets the nomination. The point is, there isn't really anything new and negative that can hurt him - he's easily the most vetted candidate to run for any office in the last 20 years. I think the weight of the Cain endorsement and a Win in Iowa catapults Newt to a solid 2nd place and maybe even a dark horse 1st Place in NH. I'm not sure that anyone OTHER than Romney will have the ability to stay in and compete much past that point. Even though Newt isn't my favorite, it's an easy choice between him and Obama for me, and according to the polls, for a growing number of voters as well.

The over-riding point here is had the UNT administration done it's job this would't be a UNT issue. The Administration made a MASSIVE mistake by allowing this on campus. OUR CAMPUS. ...and now UNT, the students and alumni get to pay the price for this error in judgement. It IS a shame this young man died, no matter the circumstances or his political slant. ...but it shouldn't have happened on our University's Campus.

I enjoy watching everyone dry to drill this down to one thing that causes these issues. It is such a multitude of bad decisions and unlucky breaks that have UNT in the position we are in today. ...some of us believed that building the stadium meant UNT athletics changed overnight. Some believed a new coach was the answer. ...in the end, winning, both in conference and against OCC teams that generate INTEREST is the best thing we can do long term to encourage attendance at the football games. The AD can also help by making life easier for those who want to go to the games, and ensure it is easy to get to the stadium, park, tailgate, etc. ...A lot of progress has been made o this front. In the end, only a combination of winning regularly and a change in the culture on campus to where ALL UNT EMPLOYEES make it important to them, will drive the students to make it important to them. The culture is changing, but its slow. It'll take time.

I heard 13 million thrown around last night on TV, but don't hold me to that... it could have been bad info.

In my scenario, if they reached number 1 or 2 though their play, they are in the national title game. ...the rest of the bowls would be free to pick and choose their teams based on what is best for them and who draws, etc. I don't claim the idea is perfect by any stretch, but it's better than the current situation. If everyone's got a shot it will open up recruiting and create more parity, as evidenced by the recent scholarship limits have done. ...its either that or a playoff, which is absolutely the best way to go, but I don't know that's going to happen any time.

A sincere thanks to those who braved the weather

Man, it was great, no doubt. Seeing friends, watching the beating. Seeing the records SMASHED! My 5 year old daughter and I loved every minute of it. GO MEAN GREEN!!! -
It's all BS anyways. If we're not going to have a playoff, then this AQ crap needs to go away, and the BCS needs to be about brining together #1 and #2, and stay out of the rest of the bowls. ...then the bowls are setup based on who brings the most fans and will get the best ratings on TV, not some bogus you're in, you're out BS setup.

I love it... ...great covers! -
By FAR the best post in this thread. +1 for the big Q.

ROTFLMAO!!! Classic.

Reverse psychology... scary.

It's all about money, I'm sure, not about what the fans want or what makes any sort of sense. No doubt. ...just seems odd to me. I just hope we can all agree to make new, more logical names for these leagues after all this shuffling is done. Conference USA - Genius in naming. No geographic or numerical things to screw up.

Boise and Air Force (and BYU for that matter) make more sense in the Big XII (minus 3, Plus 1, divided by... shit, I'm confused now...) than they do in the Big East.
-
BYU is going to be in the Big EAST?! That makes perfect sense.

yyz28 replied to Tree's topic in Mean Green Football
Two things come to mind when I read this thread. KICKASS!!!! is the first one. It is great to be playing games that still mean something at this point in the season, and to have a chance to really see this team break out in the latter half of this season. ...the other thing that comes to mind is TAP THE BREAKS!! ...I'm as excited as the next guy. ...but we haven't strung together back to back much less 3 wins in a LONG TIME. I don't doubt this team can do it. I think they can win every game left on the schedule. ...but I'm not prepared to set my sights on a bowl. Right now I'm REALLY looking forward to win #4, and I hope it is this week. -
I'd give you more than +1, but the man has locked down the system to keep us from expressing our freedom of speech.* *[ADMIN'S NOTE]This was sarcasm and a joke. Had I actually meant to offend you, there would have likely been an additional barrage of 4 letter words and or distasteful comments about your questionable parentage. moreover, I would like to take this time to acknowledge the hard work and dedication it takes to maintain this forum for us, the Mean Green Nation, as a labor of love for those who are involved, and would further like to point out how well you allow us all to express ourselves even when our opinions are offensive and flat out stupid.
