Don't care for the Liberty and most certainly against the dropping of the series against Army but then again being a fan of UNT sports it just comes with the territory of you just never know what's going to happen and what decisions are going to be made. Only thing we have to do regardless of opponent is win, win and win some more. That will change perception regardless who we play. Beating FCS/SBC schools by 50 far outweighs losing by just 10 or 15 points against a major P5 IMO.

Lindy is a good guy and yes the team had their issues with goaltending and defense but in 4 years he could never settle and figure out the goaltending, defense, and special teams. I'm not really sure why Curt Fraser will be allowed to interview with the new coach b/c I thought he had a big bag of nothing. Not sure what people are expecting in terms of developing young talent...young talent all develop at different paces. If kids were called up they were generally getting playing time. Nill however never wants to bring up young kids unless it's due to need. Granted I didn't always agree with how Lindy did some things but he gave the young players all the opportunities in the world...either players grabbed that opportunity or they didn't. Ultimately this move had to made...I wanted Lindy to succeed here and he's definitely a good dude but a change had to be made here.

Obviously recruiting stats and rankings matter to a point. There's a reason why the winners in CFB have higher recruiting classes than the non winners and it is quite a bit concerning we're ranked that poorly. It's rather delusional to dismiss these types of ratings and rankings. That said I also do think that in NT's case we needed to get a coaching staff here that can coach and develop players up big time to create that first wave/leg of being consistent, respectable winners. Maybe SL can do that...or maybe it's going to be the same ol and more of the NT that we know and love so time will tell.

Dallas Mavericks - Benford'd

As I said previously I wasn't always a fan of the method or approach the team has taken in everything specifically in drafting and player development but at the same time I can't knock a guy/organization that is consistently winning 50 games every year and going to the playoffs. And the reality is that when you're picking in the mid to high 20's every June it's unlikely you can find great talent so their approach was different....I don't totally agree but I won't knock it. Looking back breaking up the championship team was probably a mistake but at the same time I don't for one minute believe they would have been legitimate contenders in defending that title or being close to it. That 2011 championship team was built for that year and that year only. They were aging and everybody played out of their minds that spring. Other than a season or two, I wouldn't say Chandler has been all that stellar in addition to injuries and his output not justified based on his salary but of all the guys on that team I probably would have kept him. And despite their decisions made after the championship season they've still been competitive and been a playoff team except 1 season I believe which believe me if you lived through the 90's Mavs basketball you'd know how great even a 7 or 8 seed is. We've reached a point where they are what they are...a fairly bad team. You say Dirk isn't playing well....what are you expecting from him given his age and recent nagging injuries? There's no question all he can do is provide some offense but I don't care...he's still a jedi to me and should be at the least the only reason to watch Mavs basketball b/c he's effing Dirk. Regarding the future Barnes is a very good piece to start and build with. I don't think he's an alpha male but I think he's capable of being if 2nd then 3rd best player on a really really good team. They'll get a high pick in the next draft and it's a deep one so they can get a good player there or they can flip that pick and trade it away to bring in a good young piece in return. Lots of possibilities with this thing but even if it's done right and with perfection you're still probably looking at a 3-5 year rebuild. -

Cuban's Shark Tank involvement and his political activity have absolutely zilch to do with the Mavs current state. Anybody closely following this team knew this was going to be a really rough year in all likelihood. Oh great so you bring up the Spurs...one of the very very very few era's that we've seen any sports franchise have the amount of success they've had and that's what we're just expecting? Sorry but that's just not reality. Given all that Dallas still had what 12 or 13 straight seasons of winning 50 games also. Of course I won't deny or excuse the miscalculations the Mavs have taken over the years but hey as long as they were winning and competitive a fan couldn't realistically complain. -
These things change all the time. I wouldn't think that much of it. All good tho...I don't think we should look at as he disowned us...a lot of people just tend to move on after college. Doesn't mean he won't/can't ever come back either.

I get and realize it probably would never happen because I don't think the average American sports fan would like it and embrace it but with this sport I would much rather prefer eliminating the ridiculously stupid playoff system and just do it like the Euro leagues and award the champion to the team with the best record/most point at season's end. FCD games are a blast...only been to two including the US Open cup game this past season but it was so great. I've considered getting season tickets but I'm definitely much more interested and have started following the league more closely & the players etc. It's a really nice and fun brand of soccer and nothing like it was in the 90's early 00's.

You can't be serious. The franchise has been great/good for damn near 16 years. At some point things were going to turn but they have a few pieces to work with going forward. The more they lose the more they'll unload and tank the rest of the season. I think we all see that Dirk still has game and he just makes everyone around him better offensively w/his presence. If you can get a top 3-5 pick and land a primo player and add him to Harrison Barnes then I think you at least have a few good pieces to start with. Or hell you can land a high pick and trade that for a primo player say Cousins/Nerlens Noel etc which I wouldn't be opposed to. Comparing our worthless MBB coach to anything within the Mavs organization is rather silly. -
It's quite tough to define this season thus far. Injuries, turnover in some roster, coaching etc...I'd probably say it's all of the above but I don't think this team just has it this year. Last season they found ways to win and close games and this year it's the exact opposite. I want Lindy to win and succeed here but I think his handling of the blue liners the last few years have been head scratching. His handling and constant changing of lines also hasn't been a good thing many times because players can't ever get comfortable and confident with line mates without thinking if they screw up then there will be yet another shakeup. Jedi Nill has been great but I think he also shares blame with his handling of the blue line as well and wanting to keep 8 dmen on the roster which forces Lindy to over think/shuffle as a result. Just a really frustrating and inconsistent season that I personally don't see them going on that monster run/streak we were all hoping for.

Probably a friend of those guys...I saw several shots of them on social media and the two dudes were sitting together.

To the average person even though we made it and played in a bowl game it's very very hard to sell the program to apathetic people on a 5-8 season. Yes everyone on this board knows of our strides etc but I don't consider members of the board the general public that we're trying to cater to b/c we're dug in diehards regardless of win or lose. As others have said we just need to keep on winning and having winning seasons of consistent 6-9 games a year and being in a bowl every single season to really see a dramatic increase. Having a few seasons where we flirt and get into the top 25 and if all goes well finish a season or two could really be monumental but hey before that I'd just like to see consistent winning seasons in not just FB but MBB as well and hopefully we fix that at seasons end if you know what I mean. The one thing that I think gets lost on a lot of this is every year I just see so much more pride and interest from the students. While I don't want to forget the old and apathetic alumni, my main focus has always been on the already engaged fans/ticket holders & maintaining them but also on the very recently graduated, current and future students. They are the future and I really think they are going to be the key when we're able to finally make it and turn that corner from a school pride/engagement perspective. For new alumni the tickets are more than reasonably priced and the fact that they don't have to drive to Denton anymore if they want to take the train if they so wish. Things like the North Texan magazine is also really great and I think that's another way that's kept alumni engaged in the goings on at UNT. Had a few buddies graduate from UT and during the graduation ceremonies they always say no matter where you are and where you go we will always know where you are and find you. We need to have that mentality as well because it's all there in front of us...just need to capitalize more and more. Also, as a whole the university has started doing a really good job in catering to alumni with the mixers, receptions etc so keep on doing that because the attendance and response has been quite good from what I've seen and heard based on initial expectations. Obviously we know we can do better and should but given the budget we have to work with compared to other schools I say it's a success thus far. As I've stated in other posts I think we should all really be optimistic in the future. I honestly haven't felt this way ever since being tied to UNT...all I've ever said, hoped, dreamed, and heard was potential and yes that is still the case but given what's happened in the last year or so it just feels a little bit different now. Lastly I think this board is very instrumental for new/potential fans and keeping them engaged throughout the whole year. I guess I joined this board about 10 years ago and to be honest I was pretty shocked to see something like this at first but I’ve been hooked ever since and I’ve never personally met Harry, Evan and the whole clan behind the board etc but I personally want to say thank you for doing what you do and what you’ve done to your bodies because it’s real to me dammit!!

Even for people that came to the game on free tickets keep in mind they still probably spent money in other areas such as parking, dart transportation to the game, concessions, food, etc. I still think it's a positive number and I'm telling you as long as NT can secure 6 wins every year I think we will always have an open invitation to the HoD Bowl.

We have the whole off season for this type of thread. C'mon man.

That's why we always see and hear "just win games" and "winning cures everything".

Official 2016 Heart of Dallas Bowl Thread

How can anybody be mad or upset w/today's game? We were down 24-7 to a really good team and we still fought the hell back to make it a game w/a chance to get it. I mean I like and always pull for the service academies when they don't play NT so given last season, and all that's happened since then with the new coach, AD, staff etc today is a day to be extremely proud of our boys and university and have a bunch of optimism going forward. -
The only perk getting it through the UNT ticket office is that it helps the athletic dept and it "looks good" but other than that there isn't any benefit to the consumer in any way whatsoever. So whether you bought your tickets direct from UNT or you got the general admission from the HoD website anybody is welcome to the official UNT tailgate.

Count me in plus 2 more people most likely. -
Regardless where you bought your ticket everybody is invited to the official university tailgate. And no not everyone is buying it directly from the UNT athletic department...quite silly to assume so for some people.
-
You can get them on the HoD site. Buddy of mine just got 4 tix in the general admission area for 25.00 each.

Cynthia is a very hard core and loyal UNT alum. There won't be any issue with her in telling the world about the school and the game. And for giggles here is some Cynthia Izaguirre gold...

All of the posts I've read from you since the HoD announcement leads me to believe nothing about this season/bowl game will please you. It almost seems like you wanted North Texas not be invited to a bowl. It's totally cool...if you don't want to go then don't go. I just happen to believe that nothing about this game will negatively impact anything about the program and university. It can only help us especially something that's local. But to each their own.
