  1. I don't think I've ever had the dislike for Lane Kiffin like a lot of folks. Yeah he's probably done some questionable things but I think people forget or don't realize just how young he is. He's only 42 years old...not that much older than SL folks. He literally went from being a coordinator at USC to an NFL head coach at the age of 31-32. and we know his career path after that. The guy has done a ton, and been around a really really long time yet he's still pretty young. Kiffin has plenty of time to get any major CFB program if he so wishes. I think he's great for a program like FAU and great for the conference. I wouldn't want him to leave CUSA the same way people shouldn't want SL to leave UNT if they keep their programs trending upward.
  2. Just what exactly would you want and expect WB to say? Man I and many many people on this board know about our history of watching bad football, basketball etc. We've had a hell of a year and the future is potentially super bright here. I would say all of us are disappointed with how this game played out today especially after the first meeting with FAU but big picture RIGHT NOW I don't see why you're not happy. You must be a really fun guy to be around.
  3. Wisconsin lost to Ohio State 59-0 couple of years ago when WI was number 11. Few years prior to that Nebraska lost to Wisconsin 70-31 and both highly ranked teams. You might also want to check out results of the SEC championship games over the years....a ton of ass whippings. It's college football...routs just happen. That being said there's nothing wrong saying FAU is just the better team right now top to bottom...it's not a knock on our guys and our future/potential.
  4. I don't care what bowl we go to...I never have. I transferred to NT in 2004 and have been a die hard Mean Green fan since so I know how precious successful seasons are for us. As I've said before I could care less what bowl we go to and who we play against....I just want a game where we have the best chance to win which even then is no guarantees. Losing to a P5 by 50 doesn't do me any good. Regardless what happens today if we do end up in NOLA I'll most likely be there and I'll have a hell of a time in a hell of a town. Forget the game itself but think about the good memories and camaraderie that'll get created during those few days and life long friendships built etc especially in such a great place like NOLA. I think that's another thing that gets lost in all this. Just my opinion tho.
  5. So umm about all those people demanding and entitled that NT should play a bowl game against a better opponent or a P5 program..... FAU legitimately looks like a P5 or a far far superior team than us right now...you can't even call this a fluke since this is the 2nd time they're playing.
  6. I'm back and purchased my season tickets for the first time since the first season under Benny. Unfortunately due to other things I've only made it to one game so far which was against Rogers State. It felt great being in the arena again and I look forward to the team improving as the season goes on and I should be at the next game. It's just going to take time for the fans to come again...it doesn't help our OOC schedule is pretty meh and I'm pretty sure a lot of people have never even heard of these schools.
  7. Just marketing and trying to sell the public the product.
  8. Mike Leslie went up to Denton and did a story as well for WFAA
  9. I keep seeing posts that we should and deserve to be playing a P5...to me I want a bowl game that we can win. I'd rather win a bowl game vs a G5 than lose to P5. Winning is winning and it'll always feel sweet regardless of opponent. I'm by no means saying/assuming we will win our bowl game against a fellow G5 by any means but I think if we played a P5 and get rocked into submission it would look a lot worse especially to the fringe fans that we're trying to get interested next season and seasons forward. In addition to this we all know that everyone tries to get away from scheduling P5's against G5's. Just the way it is folks...no matter how much we may want one I just don't think it's super realistic we'd get it no matter how hard we try.
  10. I kinda think this all goes back to Phillip Fulmer. They should have never gotten rid of Fulmer and I just think they're still paying for that mistake IMO.
  11. I totally get the how SMU has some advantages but I just don't see SMU going SL nor SL being legitimately interested in leaving Denton for that job. I mean seriously people act like there's hidden/secret schools and programs out there where people don't know what's going on. I can assure you everybody knows what SL has done here in his 2 seasons and just because he goes to SMU won't give him any more of a leg up for a big P5 job than SMU. College athletics is nothing but an environment of vultures so the exposure thing to me doesn't really add up here. Other than cash and I admit that's a pretty big deal I don't see how SMU is that much better of a job than NT. We could be heading into uncharted territory in that we legitimately have shot at turning around the athletics program and the school perception...we're pouring more money into athletics and taking it seriously for once. We might just now how to handle all of this. If we consistently get 8-9-10 wins a season and flirt with top 25 polls I don't think there's any question we can sell Apogee out every week very easily. THAT will be a huge factor when another program wants to consider SL to lead their program. You do that at SMU and I still believe there's major issues with attendance and I'm not so sure that the city of Dallas would get behind them as Dallas' college team no matter how much advertising they do and shove it down our throats on the radio. And seriously it was a TCU blogger that threw this out there...we are getting trolled by one of our own and who happens to be the board's Czar.
  12. Would TT really want to play us in a bowl game? That said I want a bowl game that is super winnable for us. IMO it's better to win your bowl game that gets us to 10 or 11 wins against a G5 opponent than losing and potentially losing badly to a P5 such as a TT.
  13. Why the heck would Leach leave his current job and move back to Lubbock?
  14. I've flown Spirit several times and never had any issue with them. If you know what they're all about before booking w/them and flying w/them then they're a great IMO and you'll be able to save some money. I just checked on their site and you can literally fly to FLL in the morning and get there at 940am, attend the game and fly back out that night at 8pm and the tickets are less than $200. If I wasn't getting married and didn't have wedding planning and hosting out of town family I'd most likely do that and attend the game.
  15. I totally get the landscape has changed and will continue to change. The TV money is going to dwindle but not just for the G5's but for everyone. Even within the P5's, how many of them are the major draws from a tv perspective from a national level? Maybe 20-25? Few of the other ones have a good regional following but I feel the money is going to be going down all across the board. That said, it doesn't mean there won't be any money there....as of now the G5's have to rely on actual tickets sold, donations etc...that's not going to change later on. I don't see the complete break off between the P5 and G5...it kind of is already divided indirectly...G5's don't have a shot at the playoff...they might be lucky to get into a major bowl like a WMU last season but how often is that going to happen? There's a disruption now but there's also going to be new things that come...We can now watch games on Facebook, Twitter etc....there's going to be other services and products that get created which will add a new dimension to entertainment IMO. While it looks slightly worrisome especially from our perspective I just think we're still a ways away before the worst happening. From a NT perspective we just need to continue to poor resources and money into the important programs and try to get ourselves aligned and associated with the AAC's & MWC's of the world. Perception wise they're viewed much more favorably and IMO just better conferences than CUSA IMO. We do that I think we'll be fine and we'll continue to have winning/successful seasons which elevates our programs and our school's profile.
  16. Disappointed to see this loss. Quick question for those more educated in men's college basketball than me but how does a loss like this stack up to the loss against Alabama Huntsville in Benford's first season? Are they in any way equal or similar?
  17. I'd never rule it out...coaches have left after 1 or 2 seasons for bigger/better programs and get more money. I'm not saying it'll happen...I hope it doesn't of course but this article is just the nature of the beast that I don't mind because it means' we're doing something good!
  18. There isn't a chance in hell that Brett wants North Texas athletics to suck...he's seen enough shitty sports covering us over the years and he obviously wants them to be good so he can enjoy his work even more. This article is just reality...we wanted our programs to win and this one is in good fashion...with the coaching carousel that's in CFB these days it just comes with the territory when G5's and lower P5's have really nice success.
  19. I've no interest in playing Army again for the same reasons that's already been discussed here. In fact I'd like to stay away from scheduling teams with offenses such as theirs. I've said this for years on this board and to everyone I ever speak to about NT football and NT sports in general for that matter...I DO NOT WANT fans of the opposing team coming to Apogee. I don't want to rely on the other team's fans in filling up our freaking house. We have 38K students, couple hundred thousand alumni in the area and are in a region of about 7 million people. Let's give our own fans/alums etc reasons to filling up all 30K seats. What increases visibility, buzz & recruiting are wins...and more win...and then more wins...and then even more wins. I'd much rather beat a fellow G5 opponent or beat the tar out of them then play a Texas Tech or Houston and lose by 1 point. If we win...all is well...if we lose it's like oh ya there's no way we could beat TT, Hou, etc. It's just peoples mindset and perceptions that we're going to have right now until and if we just truly start turning this thing around win consistently for years and years. While I'm no fan of the Liberty home/home it gives us a reason to kick the living tar out of them twice and just accumulate those wins which we need desperately as a program to change culture/perception.
  20. I'll be there in spirit.
  21. Now that I remember, I had heard that he's throwing a big and open tailgate for this game.
