  1. Give me someone that can coach and coach a team up over being stellar recruiter any day of the week. As long as the HC hires competent assistants that can recruit we'll be ok because we need coaches that know how to coach a team up because we won't win very many major recruiting battles for at least a few years until the team is proven to be good and players want to come here.
  2. They've been good to great since Fran took over which must have been in the late 90's early 2000's So yes it's been quite a while since they've been perpetually bad IMO.
  3. FIFY
  4. Had a hunch Anaheim would find their scoring stride against Dallas tonight and they have with 3 goals the last 4 or 5 mins of the first period.
  5. This team just looks good and cohesive. It's truly amazing what they've done to start the season versus what very little I saw and heard a lot about the terrible preseason. While this type of run will hardly last a long time I think we're getting more and more closer in saying that this team has finally arrived in being a truly good team that can compete for nice good long playoff/cup runs.
  6. What has the school done to truly increase the fan base? The football team has been in utter shambles for a decade except for one season.
  7. Fans also expect something of substance in return. Time, money, effort etc is all being poured in to going to these games and given what's happened this season and for many many years now people just get tired of it. This isn't to say people aren't pulling for them to win but I think the last thing something should be labeled as pathetic is our fan base.
  8. What incentive do people have going? I mean I ask in all seriousness.
  9. I'm about done with Elvis. Been a staunch defender of his since he arrived in 2009 but I'm ready to see him in another uniform.
  10. I would be so on board with Brady Hoke
  11. Yes they won in 99 and lost it in 00 but they were a playoff team in I believe all but 1 maybe 2 seasons from 93 until 2008 when they made that run to the WCF. The wheels fell off after that organizationally but a few things happened, the team wasn't drafting and scouting well and Tom Hicks failed to spend enough money to get good players in here. If I recall they would always be a decent amount of money under the salary cap and that's just unacceptable considering Dallas is a top 4 or 5 market. They got relevant a few years ago although they're still not there quite yet but comparing the Stars to the Texans, Browns etc is rather silly.
  12. The Stars have been nothing but a massive failure for the last 20 years? You're not serious are you?
  13. I see nothing wrong with a hiring/consulting committee. Don't let them virtually make the hire and influence your whole decision but getting other input is just fine IMO just don't let it completely influence your decision making etc. You've been at your job for 15 years as an AD so you should have a very good idea of the landscape...at least one would hope and think.
  14. Yes the hiring made national news but only people within the the area and state knew him. Sure I believe SLC had some of their games on national TV like ESPN but so did other high schools if I recall.
  15. Oh I don't doubt he's not plugged in but Miami has been stagnant for darn near a decade if not longer. I can't see them taking a shot at Cristobal or someone like him just yet if they move on from Al Golden but I could definitely be wrong.
  16. No way he's going to be the head coach at The U unless he starts over and gets a FBS HC gig and wins quite a bit. He didn't do enough at FIU to get that job and believe he was considered but they chose Al Golden instead.
  17. I also gotta think he loves this gig a lot. It gave him a chance to come back home and be close to his kids and grandchildren which was a huge motivating factor. I think he probably wants to stick around for the long haul here until he's ready to retire so why not be happy and enthusiastic about everything. If a university thrives in academics and athletics it benefits everyone involved including his own personal resume.
  18. Part of his job duties are being a great at influencing and negotiating. If the BOR is wishy washy about athletics priority then he needs to somehow influence them as well as the key donors.
  19. I have no issues if they're truly qualified and best fit for the job.
  20. So umm the Astros really really shit the bed. I'd probably rather get blown out in the first inning and move on to the next game than what happened to Houston. I know the pain Stros fans, Rangers fans have been the worst of worst.
  21. 4-3 or 5-2 warranting a coach of the year or coach of the century? Only at North Texas I guess.
  22. Surely not as bad as the 3 million or so that many of us were thinking.
  23. I mentioned this before in another thread some weeks back but I probably had one or two interactions with him on the phone and my gosh he just seemed really full of himself and wasn't nearly as cordial as I would have hoped. Just wasn't very pleasant to speak to. At this point anytime I ever have any questions whatsoever I will not speak to anyone other than Reggie Johnson. He is one hell of a dude.
  24. If we're going to step it up only to see the constant failures in our AD hiring failures then it's all just pointless. The fans and alumni are there and believe it or not they're ready to explode but the school hasn't given them nearly enough reason for them to jump on the ship.
