MGB: Today's DRC editorial on the state of UNT athletics
Green Mean replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
The Stars have been nothing but a massive failure for the last 20 years? You're not serious are you? -
MGB: UNT considering forming hiring committee for new coach
Green Mean replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I see nothing wrong with a hiring/consulting committee. Don't let them virtually make the hire and influence your whole decision but getting other input is just fine IMO just don't let it completely influence your decision making etc. You've been at your job for 15 years as an AD so you should have a very good idea of the landscape...at least one would hope and think. -
Sonny Cumbie and Doug Meacham UNT job mention on Fox
Green Mean replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Yes the hiring made national news but only people within the the area and state knew him. Sure I believe SLC had some of their games on national TV like ESPN but so did other high schools if I recall. -
OK first list was too young -- how about these?
Green Mean replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Oh I don't doubt he's not plugged in but Miami has been stagnant for darn near a decade if not longer. I can't see them taking a shot at Cristobal or someone like him just yet if they move on from Al Golden but I could definitely be wrong. -

No way he's going to be the head coach at The U unless he starts over and gets a FBS HC gig and wins quite a bit. He didn't do enough at FIU to get that job and believe he was considered but they chose Al Golden instead. -
I also gotta think he loves this gig a lot. It gave him a chance to come back home and be close to his kids and grandchildren which was a huge motivating factor. I think he probably wants to stick around for the long haul here until he's ready to retire so why not be happy and enthusiastic about everything. If a university thrives in academics and athletics it benefits everyone involved including his own personal resume.

I have no issues if they're truly qualified and best fit for the job.

Rangers
Green Mean replied to NT91's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
So umm the Astros really really shit the bed. I'd probably rather get blown out in the first inning and move on to the next game than what happened to Houston. I know the pain Stros fans, Rangers fans have been the worst of worst. -
MGB: Sounds like Smith is going to get his shot
Green Mean replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
4-3 or 5-2 warranting a coach of the year or coach of the century? Only at North Texas I guess. -
Surely not as bad as the 3 million or so that many of us were thinking.

UNT donors have really stepped it up; we must as well
Green Mean replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I mentioned this before in another thread some weeks back but I probably had one or two interactions with him on the phone and my gosh he just seemed really full of himself and wasn't nearly as cordial as I would have hoped. Just wasn't very pleasant to speak to. At this point anytime I ever have any questions whatsoever I will not speak to anyone other than Reggie Johnson. He is one hell of a dude. -

Green Mean replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
If we're going to step it up only to see the constant failures in our AD hiring failures then it's all just pointless. The fans and alumni are there and believe it or not they're ready to explode but the school hasn't given them nearly enough reason for them to jump on the ship. -
At this point our athletic department needs new blood from top to bottom. I think the new decision makers should be the ones to decide if they want to retain anyone from the current staff. Clean house and get rid of everything that is associated with RV and the rest of the current regime. IF the new decision makers decides to retain anyone currently on the payroll I am ok with that but it should be given the opportunity to be a completely clean slate.
-
I could have sworn RV got some type of extension as well a year or two ago but I must be really really confused.
-
I know our loss yesterday made some national news but how would they know about that so easily and yet not have any idea of our bowl in 2013 and be that removed? It seems a little odd to me if they're from Denton and even been to a game and not know about the 2013 bowl.
-
Oh really? I don't think I saw that. So what was his extension that he signed I want to say last year that was an extra 4 or 5 years?
-
He'll need a buyout to go away. Retirement may be the face of him going away but he has over 300K reasons a year to keep on milking this for what he can
-
Even casual observers and outsiders of this program know and realize our AD sucks.

It's Official Chico named Interim Head Coach
Green Mean replied to UNTflyer's topic in Mean Green Football
I can see that happening but I'm not so sure twice with the same school for consecutive HC firings. -
This is exactly why I say that people saying we want a coach that knows to how to recruit Texas, knows Texas, from Texas is all garbage because there is a plethora of football players and talent in this state. Anybody can recruit Texas if they have a game plan, good coach, program etc.
-
I'm not sure how these buyouts work but can't we just pay it in installments over a longer period of time so we can absorb it easier? If the athletics program is in a much better shape financially than it was previously then 4 million in buyout money for 2 very important and critical roles doesn't seem that much.

How Easy is the buyout for Rick V?
Green Mean replied to meanJewGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I read/heard that it was surely after the game and in the locker room but was it really in front of the whole team as well?
