Now that the dust has settled.......
Green Mean replied to StealthEagle84's topic in Mean Green Football
I think the best approach to take in all this is to be cautiously optimistic. At this point leave everything up to him and see what he has. Rather than checking back in 3 years you can at least see some idea what you have in a guy in year 1. -
Apathy is there due to losing. Look I'm usually on board with the naysayers b/c we've been bit in the ass every single time. The coaches will overcome less and less if they can produce W's. Now the man hiring the coaches is a different thing but let's not lose sight of the real reason behind so much apathy and getting this thing to take off the way we want and expect.

Thoughts and prayers with Mean Green 93-98
Green Mean replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Extremely sorry for your loss. Thoughts and prayers to you and your whole family. -

Everything is literally in place except the on the field results. Believe me nothing really matters in the grand scheme of things if you don't win because you can have a staff of superstars trying to sell the product/school but if they don't win and not aesthetically nice to watch it then nobody will care.

MGB breaking news -- UNT to consider contract for new coach
Green Mean replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Maybe it's just me but the way this is playing out seems to be really bizarre. -
Bob and Dan interviewed him a few weeks ago and it was a great interview. And yes I believe he was at Blalack in CFBISD. You can listen to it going to the link. http://www.bobanddan.com/guests/

Culture will truly ever change if winning, winning consistently, and winning big time/relevant games are part of the equation. Yes It's nice to have the coaches living in Denton but first and foremost is he able to get W's.
-
They could agree to terms for him to be the next HC here and take over after a certain date. I may be wrong but I thought that is what UH did with Tom Herman.
-
Right I meant our mascot has never changed. Yes we've had the Mean Green moniker around since the 60's or what not but we were always the North Texas Eagles with Eagles being the official nickname/moniker until that was changed.
-
This is more about the moniker not the mascot. We were officially the North Texas Eagles with the Eagle being our mascot until it was changed. Now our mascot is still the Eagle but we are not called the North Texas Eagles we are called the North Texas Mean Green. Texas A&M has always been the Aggies from what I recall at least...never been the Collies or what not.

Seems Richt never lived up to expectations from a national level. Seems like far too often it was time for it to be UGA's year to really compete for a championship and dominate and they just can never get over that hump.
-
It makes all the sense in the world to do that but it's North Texas so that would never happen.
-
They both have ties to the state so in this case that part of it evens out. Meachan has only been with TCU for a few years. I want the best coach not the best recruiter. If you're a good coach with a great game plan then you will be able to recruit anywhere. I'm no expert of course but in my very non-professional opinion Littrell seems to be the guy with the highest ceiling. But hey we could both be really really wrong or really really right.

With the amount of talent in this state and in this area if the coach is good, competent and knows how to build relationship along with his staff then no it won't matter. As I've said in other posts we're not Wyoming where you really need to know how to recruit and lure people from other states to play there. No disrespect to Wyoming btw.

Agree I was speaking in terms of the moniker. I'd always known us as the North Texas Eagles and changing that was a mistake IMO. We still could have been the Mean Green as an official/unofficial moniker but you know what I'm saying.
-
Everybody recruits this state in some way shape or form. As I've said in previous posts that it should be relatively easy to recruit in this state with the amount of talented players in this state and around this region. Go with the best coach that can coach up players and a team. I could care less if they have Texas ties or not. It's all about relationship building from the point they're hired IMO.

Why Meacham Over Littrell
Green Mean replied to HarringtonFishSmeller's topic in Mean Green Football
LIttrell seems to have the higher ceiling. And we don't 'need' to have a guy that recruits this state...it's pretty obvious they'll have to recruit here. There is an abundance of talent in this state so if he is a good coach with a good game plan that can connect with HS coaches then he'll be able to recruit. It's not like he has to go to Wyoming to recruit. Now if you tell me someone has to be ready and know how to recruit players to Wyoming then yes but I think people are making knowing how to recruit Texas a bigger deal than what it really is IMO. -
Perhaps I'm in the minority but this is what we were in for when the name changed from Eagles to Mean Green officially in 2002 or whenever that was. We should have officially remained the North Texas Eagles with Mean Green being an additional nickname but that's just my opinion and I'm probably in the very very small minority at this point.

I'm kinda sold on Seth Littrell myself. But hiring coaches is a very inexact science so and much much more so with RV making the decisions so ya who the heck knows.
-
Before Fran took over was a long time ago. I'm not that old but I'm not that young either. I remember when TCU sucked. We're approaching 20 years since Fran took over which was in 98 and have been good/great/relevant since then. They've done so great that they're in a P5 and still super successful.
-
I don't think it really matters if the HC understands our situation and our problems here. It's not hard to see what's lagging here and many other programs similar to ours...the coach's job is to win games and unfortunately there isn't an exact science on hiring coaches who will turn out to be successful. No matter our problems coaches have humongous egos and they'll think they can be the savior in any program out there. The issue has been hiring which have turned out awful over and over again. Maybe we need someone that doesn't understand our problems and think its ridiculous that we're in the state we're in so he can infuse some hope and try to change things for the great good. But at the end of the day none of it matters if you wont win games. I don't care how many alums we have in our area but nobody wants to see perpetual losers and god awful products on the field/court etc.

What is Derek Thompson doing?.....

Much ado about nothing...
