Should we go mainly high school?
GrandGreen replied to Ross Hodgeson's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Recruiting should be more straightforward, after this convid year exception has expired. Recruit players that can't leave without sitting out a year if they transfer. This should be most high school players unless there is some way to circumvent that rule. In basketball, with so much NT turnover; NT is going to have to hit the transfer portile and juco's to get the majority of their players. -
Be interesting, how NT approaches this game. A big name showdown or just another game, with the conference games much more important.
-
Hard to follow, but I assume right now, and probably not for long; NT is expected these players to return Buggs Cotton Walker Sissoko Noland Stone With two high schoolers signed, that leaves 5 ships Assuming Hodge doesn't bolt too, I hope his juco connections work again.

If they don't change NIL rules, look for college sports to continue to die. It is always been a monopoly at the top, but that may change as all the lower tier competition is eliminated. The SEC, PAC whatever, and Big Ten maybe have to schedule each other in the non-conference and they all have feasted on basically home only oc seasons. I assume Scott has graduated, if so I can't fault anyone who wants a different school on the next diploma. Yes, I recognize it is likely; some other school has offered and he has accepted a much larger NIL deal.

OU and Mississippi, both may have pushed these players out the door. They very well could have thought they were better off with the opportunity to recruit their replacements than keeping these players. This is not a NIL issue, decades ago it was common practice for the better teams to dump their bench players and add more potential stars. If a player did not substantially contribute, they were usually gone.

BREAKING: Jason Edwards to enter transfer portal
GrandGreen replied to Jdawg48's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Without Edwards this year, I speculate NT would have lost about 5 more games. Now we lose the only first team All Conference player and many chime in that he was not that good anyway and we can do better. All those, that think he will be easy to replace and was really a liability; are simply basketball unaware. What many seem to forget is that opponents' defenses were for most part focused on stopping Edwards. This freed up the other players for more good shots. Many predicted this, he is a hired gun and that is the why he is at NT. I think NT will get a good replacement, but I want to thank Edwards for his year of play and wish him the best.- 135 replies

That would be 10 returning: Buggs, Scott, Edwards, Moore, Cotton, Walker, Sissoko, Jones, Noland, and Stone Plus 2 high schoolers signed That leaves only one ship open, of course that could and probably will change. NT obviously has to find a big to replace Allen. This assumes Jones has another year of eligibility and NT doesn't lose players to the portal or encourage players to find another home. I would not be surprised to see Moore, Stone, and Cotton move on to places that they may play significantly more. I am not sure what the transfer rules are now, but I can see a lot of teams looking for offense to go after Edwards and Buggs.

Congrats to Savage and the team, keep those series wins coming.

Tommisha Lampkin is back for 24-25 season!
GrandGreen replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I can't think of better news that could happen to the NT athletic program. Notice I didn't say WBB program. -
I was just countering your view, in the hope that you could see both sides of the issue. The more boisterous NT fans can be, within reason, the better.

I would like to see what Stone can do playing guard, he almost exclusively has been used as a big because NT has lots of good guards and little depth in the frontcourt. Not sure if he has the quickness to play guard, but he sure does not have the bulk to be playing against most D1 forwards.
-
Don't care where they come from. NT should just recruit the best players they can get that play NT style basketball; defense is priority, functions well in team environment, excellent character, I would prefer a mix of transfers, with a limited number of one year eligibility players, priority on getting players that once signed cannot leave without losing a year of eligibility Biggest need a defensive oriented big man and returning Edwards, Scott and Jones if he has another year

From an old Fart, I doubt anyone has ever told you to be quiet. However, standing up in front of someone who may not be able to stand for long periods, is not something you should be proud of. Those same old farts are the biggest financial supporters of the team. If you want to stand up, maybe you should sit in the higher rows.

I think Seton is the better ball club by a substantial margin. However, in that environment in New Jersey; the odds of NT beating them were very long. They have about a 1000 seat arena that apparently requires approval to aguire tickets. So they are guaranteed the maximum home advantage. I bet they don't play any Big East games there. I wonder if they would allow NT to play in the old Pit (men's gym) that use to hold over 4000. Now that would be an advantage, by the way it was a wonderful experience going to MVC games there. However, not for the old or faint hearted with horrible seating and having to stand most of the game.

Maybe you want to compare resources and budgets between NT and LSU Also the game was in Baton Rouge, a hell of an advantage
-
What a revelation, this could apply to any team in the country except the national champion.

NT wins in extra innings 1-0 on walk off hr by Rainey. 8 innings 4 hit shutout by Mackenzie Childers Tulsa had beat ranked Okie St in their last game

Well deserved honor, a front line pitcher I was not anticipating. Softball team started with an tough schedule and now it showing benefits in the AAC.

Women’s Basketball Set to Face TCU in First Ever WBIT
GrandGreen replied to cousin oliver's topic in Mean Green Basketball
With Kernel still in never-never land, NT is making a game of it. Lampkin played a great first half. By the way, this announcing team is horrible, give them a NT roster because they don't even announce who scores. -
NT and Hodge have had a great year when all turnover and injuries are considered. Hodge is a good on-court coach, but his real strength is recruiting. He is finding players and signing them without the benefit of an abundance of NIL funds and frankly a lot attendance support. The mark of great coaching to me is the ability to create a team that is greater than the sums of the parts. Although NT has great college players, I believe they frequently beat teams with more individual talent.

Let build 3 more, one for mbb, one for wbb and a spare for random events I still marvel that so many think that the legal ownership of the Spit is a significant factor in scheduling it's use. The vast majority of all D1 basketball programs have a multi-use main basketball facility. I know this particular discussion is due to the scheduling conflict mentioned in the NIT broadcast. However, there is no guarantee and it is in fact likely that the same problem would exist if the Spit was an asset of the athletic department.

Yes, that coward Perry ran away for a much larger NIL payment and to play in one of the best BB conferences in the country. He certainly deserves condemnation for that kind of decision. I guess you are not a capitalist., but it should be obvious that some people are just better at somethings than others are. Blame the NIL system and I will agree with you, but your take on capitalism and loyalty are at best problematic.

Nothing would ever get enacted if it had to done in priority order.
