Do we start the who will the next head coach will be now?
GrandGreen replied to southsideguy's topic in Mean Green Football
That would be about the only thing that would make me give up NT football fandom. -
Has NT ever lost a game, were the consensus from this board is not to fire someone or everyone? Answer, probably only when playing P4 teams were the score was closer than predicted. Morris is going to be here at least to the end of the season, and likely to be here next year. Unless, you have a few million to help buy out a contract; then you are just venting. NT is 2-1 which is slightly better than the projected 1-2. If you thought NT was going to beat Tech in Lubbock than you are definitely an optimist. Tech as I stated earlier on this board, could have scored 100 today. It was an awful beating, but it was one game and changes little about NT's football objectives this year, I really wonder how many of those that complain the most even go to any NT games.
-
What kind of season did you expect last year. 13-0 or 12-1 Obviously, Morris after one year at 5-7 should have been fired, I am sure would have contributed to the buyout.
-
Not much, however why do you think firing a coach after 3 games makes any sense. I am sure you can name a bunch of established coaches that would want to work at a school that fires a 2-1 coach in September.
-
No, NT certainly does not need to change the DO now; because it would probably only make the situation worse. DC's working for a Lynch type hc are at a tremendous disadvantage. Do any of you really think that it is easy to get good defensive players for a team that is obviously offensive focused. I think the 3 man front defense is a failure, but the recruits were recruited on the basis of that formation. To try to make a change at this point would be foolish. Tech was a superior team with superior athletes, the game should have been closer but NT only chance for a win was a great game by QB Morris and that didn't happen. The game was in Lubbock and Tech was fired up and NT couldn't match their athletes or intensity. HC Morris should be judged and will be judged on the season not one game.

When is the last time, NT played TCU in football or basketball? SMU was also a G5 until they purchased their way into the AAC. TCU has been a P4or 5 for a long time. TCU also has a lot of local fan support, while SMU has very little. It is just easier to dislike the most penalized team in the country.

Nice quote, but mostly wrong. How can the nearest D1 football team to Denton, mean nothing to NT? The two schools compete for fans, recruits and media coverage.
-
Only 13 years ago, not exactly recent, NT also played #1 Depaul ages ago in Dallas. Also LSU's basketball is not close to their football program. Still I doubt you see NT schedule any SEC schools in Denton. I hope NT improves their oc schedule, I just doubt it can be done with the resources NT currently has.
-
How do you suppose NT can schedule a LSU like school to play in Denton?
-
First, not all home and away series are based on equal payouts Second, guarantees are present even if they are for both teams receiving the same money Cancelation fees are negotiated as a major part of the game contract, upper tier teams like to reschedule or cancel games with lower tier teams if better options become available.
-
Their attendance matters because they make money enough to pay away teams guarantees, that is how oc scheduling works.
-
The question was why is NT not able to schedule the home opponents that Memphis does. Do you actually think the loss of these coaches is going to significantly affect their attendance? The point is that Memphis' attendance is roughly 4 times what NT manages. That allows Memphis to have a much better home schedule than NT. The loss of these coaches will only affect Memphis's attendance if they start losing a lot more games.

Week 2 vs. SFA Predictions: Winner, Score, Attendance
GrandGreen replied to Matt from A700's topic in Mean Green Football
NT has no issues, coast to a 47 to 17 win, while playing all available players. -
i thought that the SFA coach was impressive in the short interview. I expect NT to blow them out, but hope the NT team doesn't feel that way. No way to tell anything from SFA's first game. NT's offense cruised, but that defense has a long way to go to even be mediocre.
-
As soon as we get NT's reputation to Memphis's level, that will be possible. Memphis's average home attendance last year 12,275 versus NT's 4132, which was the highest in decades for the Green

UNT Basketball Announces Series With Oregon State
GrandGreen replied to Mean Green Newz's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Yes, that is going to happen. If your definition of marquee game is with a top 50 type program, NT does not have the resources to accomplish that. Resources in terms of finances, support or reputation. In eras past that infrequently happened, teams would even include away games in their recruiting strategy to establish their presence in certain areas. Now with nearly every game available online for free, established or ranked teams don't have to promote their programs by oc scheduling. Plus the awful NIL situation has made recruiting more about purchasing players than recruiting. -
North Texas vs South Alabama Prediction Thread
GrandGreen replied to jtm0097's topic in Mean Green Football
Behind at half, NT comes back strong and wins by 10. -
I prefer to give a coach a couple of years to prove his worth. I really don't get these types of threads, did you expect Morris to go undefeated in his first year?

Who would be on UNT's Mount Rushmore?
GrandGreen replied to cousin oliver's topic in Mean Green Football
Yes, he should be on that list as should Eric Pegram; who IMO was a better rb, but played on some bad NT teams. -
Another disappointing loss for Hedlund
GrandGreen replied to Dannymacfan's topic in Mean Green Athletics
Not inclined to worry about exhibition losses to good teams away. Particularly, at a mile above sea level. -
Apparently, it was just backed with the scheduling of Oregon St. and NT. Not good for the point I attempted to make, but should be great for the team.
