Appear To Anyone Else SBC Has New Co-Commissioner
GrandGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Don't the story lines of the four time conference champions, 25 straight conference wins, and the last two leading rushers in the nation in the same backfield trump interest in old Howard? FAU is on TV because their deal with a local network not great national interest in the program. -
Did RV not reportively apply for jobs at both NMSU and Mutland?

If healty I think that Chaney and Davidison will be the tight ends that get the most playing time. I noticed on the current roster that Grady Davis is no longer listed. I thought he had some chance at getting playing time at the tight end position.

Several updates in the MGR Recruiting Database
GrandGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I still do not understand how NT can generate so little interest by DMN area top 100. -
The offensive line imo will remain a strenght of the team at least in Belt play. The starting line of Rose, Lineberry, May, Foster, and Brown should be after a few games experience as good as any at NT. Finding quality backups maybe an issue but barring injuries not a major problem. Many of the writers fail to realize that in reality NT has 4 starters returning not two. May was a starter in 2003 and considered one of the best and Brown started last year until an illness. Four starters returning including Lineberry who is lauded as the best offensive lineman in the conference should indicate good things for the Green.

I think the lack of respect is apparent by the majority of the media. However, I wonder about NT fans that also imo underrate J Thomas. Agruments of the system or competition make me wonder if these fans have watched him play. DD's style of play does pad the statistics but the plays that Thomas continued to make last year were as good as anyone including the running back at OU. IMO Thomas had a very special freshman year and although Cobbs is a very good back, I can't conceive how many rate him above Thomas. Nt is indeed blessed at running back and this year should be very interesting. Most years at NT I would have been happy to have someone at the talent level of Mitchell, Moore or Bishop carrying the ball.

Rexrode is much larger than 200. Hutchinson probably much smaller than 240. Thought Hall was a back up TE. Chapman had one good game but did not play much after that. DD going with Hutchinson instead. My guess would be Ransom and Hutchinson will start. Look for true fish Nwigwe and Gilmore as well as Collins get a look at this position.

Air is free, so just plucker up and blow that tire up. Service stations however have to pay for the air compressors and energy that runs them. And also they get to replace the hoses when some genius cuts them, a frequent event.

Besides NT's Outland Trophy Nominee, D. Lineberry
GrandGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
No matter what Foster weights, he was obviously good enough to start last year. There were plenty of much bigger players that didn't beat him out last year and I doubt any will this year. -
I have yet to figure out the logic of those that advocate less than total effort for any game. Do you really think that taking a beating like last year at Texas does your program any good? Good teams play every game to win. Some seem to forget that Troy should have beat LSU last year. NT's chance of victory at LSU is very small but I hope that NT doesn't have any athletes or staff that give up before the coin toss.

Mean Green Facilities Upgrades Taking Shape
GrandGreen replied to UNTFan23's topic in Mean Green Football
Well not good news that the center court is not being built. I guess we should be elated at the progress but it is a letdown after assumming the whole project was going to be constructed at this time. -
It continues to amaze me, how they fail to honor the late Walter Chapman. Lance White and Brian Waters are good players and deserving but neither in my opinion came close to Walter's level.

Wanna' Put This New Stadium Behind Us? Then Hire
GrandGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
How did Dan Spika get the shaft? My memory is that he quit after NT picked Rod Rust to be athletic director over him. Dan was a great coach and to my knowledge never went back into coaching. He never got the attention he should have had coaching in the best conference in America at the time. Blakely never got the support he wanted from the administration but not many are going to keep their job being openingly critical of their boss. Also Blakely was barely a .500 coach once all of Robbin's recruits graduated. His biggest public complaint was lack of an adequate recruting budget. -
Milton played all four years at NT ending his career as a starting defensive lineman. I have problems with talking about Milton Collins has a bust as he gave NT great publicity being considered the number one recruit in the state and he did contribute to the team. No he was not close to being the next Earl Campbell as touted but he was far from being a wasted ship.

Best basketball player I have seen at NT was Joe Hamilton. He was all conference in the best basketball league in the country at the time. But my favorate would be Kenneth Lyons. Tough as nails and unless recently broken has the record for scoring in one game in the Southland Conference tournament. Scored 40+ points against La Tech and the Mailman in the tournament after hearing that Karl Malone a freshman at the time was picked over him for MVP of the conference. Other favorites include Bobby Iverson, Delonte Taylor, Jessie Ratliff, Willie Davis, Leroy Winfield and Chris Davis. Bobby Iverson was maybe the best athlete to ever attend NT. One of two high school all americans recruited by Coach Gene Robbins to come to NT. Robbins also signed the majority of the players that made Blakely's early years very successful. Blakely inherited Ken Williams, Terry Bailey, Fred Mitchell, Carl Jones and Melvin Davis, all recruited by Robbins. Delonte Taylor was about 6'3 but could jump out the game and also had a mean streak. Jessie Ratliff was one of the best offensive players ever at NT. Willie Davis was all MVC and at 6'8 one of the biggest players NT had in the MVC days. Leroy Winfield at 6'2 jumped center and was one of the few NT players to have an NBA career. Chris Davis was not only a great player. He had the heart to remain loyal to the school and endure through the Trilli era. Other player favorites include Adam Smith, Carl Jones, Al Shumate, Tony Worrell, Ep McDaniel, Deon Hunter, Neil Adams, Fred Mitchell, Melvin Davis, Ken Williams, Bill Cutter, Terry Bailey, John Horracks, Ronne Morgan and Wendell Williams. Lets add Jalie Mitchell and Clara Campbell for the ladys.

There is really no question in my mind, Steve Ramsey is far and away the best NT QB I have seen. He also had a successful pro career. Ramsey was a great quarterball. IMO Mitch Maher, Scott Davis, Jordan Case and Ken Washington were very good QB's but not in Ramsey's class.

Great results for early NT track signees. Brandi Stanfield of Pflugerville Connally won both the Class 4A long jump and triple jump at 19' 11 and 40'7 respectively. Going into the state meet, Brandi had the best triple jump in the state and second best long jump. Lauren Wiggins of Lewisville Hebron got second in the class 4A 100m hurdles with a time of 14.1. Gary Lackey of Brownfield won both the 1600m and 3200m at the Class 3A meet with times of 9:44.09 in the 3200 and 4:21.41 in the 1600 meters.

Track Team Begins Conference Title Chase Courtesy: University of North Texas Release: 05/13/2005 New Orleans (5/13/05) - Discus thrower Jessica Henderson got the Mean Green track and field team off to a great start at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships. Henderson, the two-time defending conference champion in the event, placed fourth with a throw of 42.41-meters. The senior owns the top two throws in school history but will miss the NCAA Regional Meet for the first time in two years. Despite sustaining a knee injury earlier this season, Deidra Wesley was hoping to make her return at the conference championship. The junior was slated to compete in the heptathlon, but soreness in her knee during warm-ups kept her out of the event. Wesley will attempt the high jump tomorrow if her knee allows. She is the school record holder in both the heptathlon and high jump, and became the first North Texas heptathlete to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Meet this season. Tomorrow, the rest of the Mean Green track team will spring into action for running event preliminaries and additional field events Henderson, the two time conference discus champion gets a fourth place and one of your best athletes, Wesley cannot compete and this is a "great start". I shudder to think what a bad start would be. link

What up with the Muts? Last year they were supposed to have one of the best classes ever signed by a Belt team. This year they have signed nine more players. Is Davis following the lead of their football coach and signing a bunch of non-qualifers?

I doubt NT offered him but I'm confident Oklahoma didn't.
