***OFFICIAL UNT vs NAVY in-Game Discussion***
GrandGreen replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
The game was lost when Morris did not have an under center formation at the one foot line near the beginning of the game, what should have been an easy td turned into a comedy of errors. -

Calling This Before I Can Say "I Told You So"
GrandGreen replied to rojomojo's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Not sure how you know how good the new recruits are? Everyone doubts NT recruited anyone close to Perry, but few teams can. FAU apparently keep their team together, but that is increasingly rare. NT recruited a juco guard AA (as was Perry), a multiple year power program starting forward, and a former big time opponent in Buggs Jr., plus several experienced transfers. NT doesn't return much as noted, however Scott gets better every year and if Jones progresses; his senior year maybe something special. The biggest question to me is the new head coach, however I think he was the logical choice. FAU was better than any remaining AAC teams last year and should be better this year, not sure how that lines up with your more established teams that were not close to as good. There are lots of questions about this year's NT team and conference, however IMO there is a significant chance that NT's 2023-24 team maybe be a continuation of the success of the prior squad. -
Still waiting, Burton must have changed his mind or lost out.

I doubt many schools even powerhouses life TCU like NIL because it is a system that by definition can't be controlled by the coaches or athletic department. Sure, I think most of the big time schools do control NIL by indicating which players they want to interested parties. However, it makes them very vulnerable to these NIL organizations and their members. At least, in the old days; when fans bought players for their favorite teams, they had to do in secret. Now no one knows where NIL will led. I assume the IRS will require full disclosure and the players will be issued w-2s or contract labor forms.

Rice is obviously not good, but NT played a lot of subs in the game.

We will miss a great fan. RIP -
Agree with first sentence, but highly doubt there are not a great number of universities that have employees dedicated to orchestrating NIL donations. It won't be on the job descriptions, but that will be their primary focus.

So we really can't criticize the head coach, eh?
GrandGreen replied to TripleGrad's topic in Mean Green Football
I am definitely missing something here. Is this not a private board and the owners basically have control within the rules of the internet? GMG provides a free service and it is up to the users if they want to participate or not. The site owners don't owe the users anything. Look at other sites and I believe you will be much more appreciative of this messageboard.- 101 replies

Harry's Barbershop Report Week 3 (La. Tech)
GrandGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Why even bring up who NT might lose to the portal? That negative can be added to every writeup for most of the teams in the country. Minor complaint about a very good writeup. -
Glad you commented, that was one of the most bizarre things I have ever seen on a "football" broadcast, minor league for sure. Even La Tech should know better than to bore it's audience in the middle of a good football game. Props to the announcer for being able to do this with a straight face and at least semi keep up with the game.

I don't get your point. I just stated that most schools inflate their heights. This is not just guesswork, it's been years ago; but I actually compared listed heights on universities' rosters with measurements from pro recruiting data. The average difference was the college roster heights were 1.5 over the pro numbers. I don't have the magic eyes that some apparently do, that can determine heights from up in the stands. You also put too much emphasis on height. Every heard of Booger Kennedy, Walter Chapman and a multitude of sub-6' great linemen. NT's problem thus far is not size but rather performance
-
The problem with this type of analysis; is it is usually based on printed roster sizes, which are often significantly overstated. If you doubt that look at the last year's roster versus this year's NT roster. The same players are now mostly shorter than they were last year. Based on the first two games, my belief is it is mostly a coaching issue at this point. Morris decided to change the offense and defense to his style of play whether the team was built for the new strategy or not. Cal would have beaten NT anyway, but it would have been much more competitive and NT would have trounced FIU as usual IMO if the team had stayed with the run first offense and four man front defense. NT hired Morris because they wanted a change and they got one. Way to early to tell if Moris is the answer or just another bad hire.

Was Morris the Wrong Hire? (Spoiler.. We Don't Know)
GrandGreen replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
Not being at least competitive against Cal at home and losing to a team just about no team loses to, is certainly a bad start for any coach. Obviously, the team will have to significantly improve or Morris's job will be in jeopardy despite the cost of making a change after one year. -
***OFFICIAL UNT VS FIU In-Game Discussion***
GrandGreen replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
Do you not realize this is his second game? Being the worst coach in NT is a much bigger challenge than being the best. -
I always like the (everybody was doing it) defense. I actually agree with that for the programs with that kind of money , but no one was doing it so stupidly and in your face as the ponies. As fas as SMU getting the amount of attention it does in sports, it is the Dallas Morning News. With the continued demise of newspapers, this will become less a factor. There is obviously a strong continuing connection with the DMN and SMU that makes no sense. They still cover the P5 more, but UNT much less despite the Mean Green having many more area fans. SMU will remain a major player just because of money. Conferences and teams are willing to take their money with a straight face, while wondering how any team's management can be so desperate.

NT get an emotional win by a lot. NT 42 FIU 17
-
Damn, we should be AD's somewhere. We can fully evaluate a coach after one game. I think everyone thought this game would be very close, instead it was a complete surrender by NT's defense. Morris and especially the defense looked totally unprepared. However, it is one game and Morris is going to be here this year and probably more to come. NT has an incredibly easy non-conference schedule the rest of the way. Hopefully, a lot of football problems can be rectified and NT can actually win a few conference games. FIU, La Tech, ACU, are all weak teams and a loss to any of them will push the panic button much more than a blowout loss to Cal did.
