emmitt01's post in Beyond the Green? was marked as the answer
Actually had a chance to get some info on this on Saturday. Funding is the current issue and Wren is debating whether to kick in the funds to cover the difference. There has been some talk of taking it online...but I believe this completely negates what makes Beyond The Green special. If it's online then you have to WANT to seek it out...as long as it is televised we still have people who can "happen upon" the show.
Might not hurt to drop "The Wren" a note to let him know how much we value the show and the ways it keeps us connected to the program...especially during the long months of the off-season

emmitt01's post in Baylor Problems Worsen... A Lot. was marked as the answer
Orrrr, given the ordeal that rape victims have to go through, these women may want to hit Baylor the only place it hurts while also avoiding having their names be part of this circus.
A criminal trial means their names become public...and every defender of rape culture with their "what was she wearing", "was she drinking" or "was she being flirtatious" garbage will crawl out of their holes. Then, after the public scrutiny phase, the girl gets to relive the event while a defense attorney questions her level Of promiscuity and paints her as a liar (and you are a FOOL if you don't think Baylor would throw a crap ton of money towards the criminal defense of these young men to avoid the PR hit of multiple convictions).
So, no, I don't just readily assume that this is a group of gold diggers out to sully Baylor's good name. I have two daughters and I would wholeheartedly support their attempts to seek justice, regardless of the avenue they chose to seek it.

emmitt01's post in Morris was marked as the answer
We are 5-6. Read that again...5-6. Not 1-10, or 2-9, or 3-8, or...
And Alec Morris came here as a heralded Alabama transfer. Vito (and some of us) spent all off-season talking about how his pedigree and size would finally give us a "real" D1 quarterback. Things didn't quite work out and he lost his starting job. And how did he respond? He mentored the kid who took his job all year and, when he was called on late in the season, HE DID HIS DAMN JOB.
I don't give a rat's ass about whether he ran out of bounds on one play where he could have gained more yards. I really don't. That is just plain weak to bring it up. This young MAN acted like one when met with adversity this season...and because of it we are one win from bowl eligibility in a season that many of our die hards wrote off in August.
I'm beginning to think we don't get nice things because we collectivly don't deserve them

I have seen crap like this before (every time UT or OU are having a good season they become the recipients of a buch of crap calls to protect the league's potential BCS participant) but this is clearly a case of CUSA protecting the 6-3 team versus us

Thank you all. It has been a long rough night for all of us in the DPD family. Clearly there is no way to make this "positive" but the outpouring of support means a lot to all of us.
Now I'm going to go kiss my wife and children...five of my brothers can't do that anymore.

emmitt01's post in Houston's head coach doesn't think SMU is willing to pay the price for a winning football program was marked as the answer
I love that we ridicule a coach who beat a top ten team less than a year ago. It's hilarious that we look down upon a team that has aspirations of doing more than being satisfied with the status quo. How dare he not realize that his program isn't Oklahoma? Why can't he just stay in his lane and give up his pipe dreams? Nobody likes it when the whore hits back.
Maybe we should just be happy that our football program puts on events where they are nice and tout our academic progress...as if winning and being good citizens are mutually exclusive.
And nobody should EVER be made to feel ashamed fir taking a shot at SMU
I don't care if some may not like to hear it...Only at North Texas

emmitt01's post in MGB: Signing day wrap-up thoughts was marked as the answer
For those of you who weren't at the evening event you missed some good stuff. All of these are just factual observations, with no intended digs at the athletic department people.
- RV defended the schedule and said, specifically, "And I would never try to sell the SMU game as a sixth home game". Who says the folks in the athletic center don't read GMG? (Unless KRAM reports everything back to him?)
- Mac went all fire and brimstone and yelled at those in attendance because we play in a half empty stadium. Made it pretty clear that he hears us when we say "win Mac and we will come" but he's of the opinion that the winning will come when we give more support. Chicken...Egg...
- Several of the JUCO guys (and Chumley) were in attendance. They look like D1 players. I really am confident that this class will pay dividends...whether it's while Mac is still here...?
- RV assured us again that we absolutely will have six home games through the 2019 season and that 2020 and 2021 are almost locked up. Said conference rules prevent him from releasing the names of the teams we have lined up.
- RV tried to get the SMU AD to agree to sell $10 tickets to students from each school when the teams play each year. The SMU AD balked at the offer and said students will play $35 next season, so RV is in the process of trying to raise money to cover the difference for 5,000 students to attend at $10.
- The series with SMU is 20 years. I wasn't aware it was that long.
- The athletic department is looking at getting a circus tent for the SMU tailgate and turning it into a big party. RV said he'd like to put it on "the Boulevard".
- There is serious talk of making UTSA our annual rivalry game (someone get UNT90 his heart meds). RV is trying to line up the schedule to get the annual game put on an attractive date and the two student government associations are looking at a traveling trophy. (Right now the idea is a sombrero on the top...can't tell if he was serious on this one).
- I asked who would replace Jub Jub and Hank wouldn't divulge the candidates. He did say we are "looking within the family" so I assume it will be a NT alum!!
- There is a tailgate cooler that costs $265. I may have to sleep on someone's couch for a week but I am gonna buy that cooler!
- Coach Cosh and the new strength coach (name escapes me) spoke and I was impressed by their vision for this team.

emmitt01's post in Game by Game Breakdown of UNT's 2014 Football Schedule was marked as the answer
Never EVER underestmate culture. We won last year because we EXPECTED to, plain and simple . The kids we have this year aren't hanging their heads low because Orr, Trice, Chancellor etc. are gone...they are expected to and expect to pick up the mantle and carry it now that it's their turn.
A majority of these guys have had the bad taste of 4 and 5 win seasons in their mouth. Winning is a hell of a drug and the craving for it will make you run when it's hot, lift when you're sore compete when you're tired. Culture matters.

emmitt01's post in Getting tired of DFW Media was marked as the answer
Let's see...
1)Our band was on Good Day one morning for SEVERAL segments
2)Mac has been on multiple radio and TV segments over the last few weeks
3)The DRC did a 12 page Bowl Section
4)Our logo was plastered on the side of the most visible building in downtown Dallas (visible from the intersections of I30, I35 and all of the major downtown streets...isn't there someone on here who has ass-whipped us for years about the number of cars passing the intersection of highways?)
5)Driving to and from work (along 75, Woodall and 35S) I see no less than four digital billboards for the bowl game)
6)The Ticket did a live remote focusing on our University and bowl game
7)Oh, by the way, the PRO football team in DFW is in turmoil and the locals care just a little bit about that.
So, in short, we have been given more coverage than I have ever seen so quit your bitchin

emmitt01's post in UTSA feels the championship fever leading into North Texas was marked as the answer
It's like this El Camino.
UTSA is the guy in the member's only jacket and thick glasses sitting next to the main stage at the strip club. CUSA is the stripper. The San Antonio market is your paycheck that the bartender has converted to a stack of ones. The stripper is, naturally, all over you because you're giving her so many dollars. You, naive and nerdy, are getting all excited and chest bumping your geek friends because you think you have a chance with this chick (championship).
We (North Texas) just happen to be sitting across the room laughing our asses off because we know she's coming home with us (championship).
But hey El Camino, MAKE IT RAIN in the meantime. We could use some new Christmas gifts (bowl game).

emmitt01's post in Winning football is simple was marked as the answer
Had the opportunity to sit next to Brandon Byrd's dad at the game. Three or four plays in he turns to me and says (as if reading my mind) "This is a fast defense. Why would you keep running the ball outside? You gotta run straight at a fast defense to negate that speed!" And he was spot on. And what did we do when we weren't running sideways? We threw lateral passes in the flats to backs and TE's.
Oh yeah, and the screen that every defensive coordinator has seen on last season's highlight reel. Wanna know why Derek threw a pick six. Because the ENTIRE Tulane defense knew it was coming, a defensive lineman got his paw on the pass and the corner who was squatting on the route plucked it out of the air. That's coaching/play calling...not the QB. We didn't try to get vertical in the first half and Tulane ate us up.
Then, in the second half, we apparently realized that Tulane awards scholarships too and that you can't be cute against 8 men in the box...and we scored 21.

emmitt01's post in Passing on 1st Down was marked as the answer
I thought the game plan was amazing. And Chico deserves kudos for this...I know there are some that are critical of him.
We didn't ask DT to do anything above what he did well against K-State. Kept it short and underneath for the most part and the receivers turned it into long plays. I wonder how effective this will be against Ohio but I have faith that we'll adjust. I'd like to see some double moves by receivers and maybe a reverse or two to keep the defense from getting comfortable.

emmitt01's post in Big East may target Tulsa was marked as the answer
The five "mid major" conferences remind me of the guys I used to interrogate after a drug warrant. Each of them, in a separate room, could be convinced that there was only one who could "save" him/herself by cooperating. Each an every time they sold eachother out...and all still went to jail. Often times, if they'd all just kept their mouths shut, they'd have all been ok.

emmitt01's post in What if Thompson is the starter next year... was marked as the answer
This is how it goes EVERY year....
December to beginning of February...Everyone talks about how great our recruits look on film, how ratings services are overhyped and how our coaching staff will do amazing things for their strength and potential.
February...Commitments come in and we dedicate no less than ten threads to where these freshmen and JUCO's will slide right into the two deep.
March to August...Every time a group of players steps into a weight room or tweets how good they feel in off-season workouts we label them as being "a beast next year" or comment on how they look so much bigger/faster than last year. We herald the coming of a bowl team all the way through spring ball and then sing praises about either our offense or defense during the spring game...whichever happens to win that particular day. In fall practice we'll complain about how we're not allowed to watch practice but we'll also act as if football was just recently invented at North Texas if a youtube video of them lifting weights or hitting eachother is leaked.
August...the season record predictions will really take off. The usual suspects will rationalize just how we can stay on the field with...insert body bag game here...and how we should be able to win at least 6-8 games because of...insert new player/improved player or coach here.
September...A large crowd will show up to watch the home opener and, if tradition holds, we'll lay an egg. Those people will spend the rest of the season drinking on the hill. We'll muddle through our OOC games and at least one of them will result in a loss that we'll lament for the rest of the season.
October through November...Everyone will predict that "none of our opponents could be as tough as...insert BCS school here...so we'll have a better feel for where we stand". After playing .500 ball or slightly below we'll whimper to the finish line and the rallying cries of "next year" will ring from the mountain tops.
And then the process begins anew...

emmitt01's post in Remember when was marked as the answer
Remember when we gave Benford the keys to a new Ferrari?
Remember when he switched out the transmission for one from a Ford Taurus...because it fit his "system" of driving?
Remember when he made sweet love to Andrew in that Ferrari?
Ahhhh, those were the days.
