Funny thing about some of those rogue alumni....they put you in the position you so haughtily condemn them from. And as far as cheers that demean the other team...cheering period from some of the actives would be a vast improvement. Talons has lost something recently...motivation for starters. What's in the pipeline as far as improving attendance for the Arkansas State game? How many have made it to the away games? What revolutionary ideas have been brainstormed to wake the sleeping giant that is the UNT student body? Anything? I would never knock the organization itself...it's the best organization that the campus has ever known....but a little fire in the bellies of the current crop couldn't hurt.

I'm kinda 50/50 on this one. if Drew didn't know the guy was standing in the back of his truck then he did what I and most anyone would have done....hear gunshots = get your ass out of there. But, once you see the lights and sirens PULL OVER. And, in what may be the bonehead move of the year for our players, when an officer WITH WEAPON IN HAND tells you to exit the vehicle you exit the vehicle. I don't care if you're Pope John Paul get out of the damn vehicle. Had it been me there would have been one request to come out of the truck....then he's coming through the driver's side window. And grade problems? Are you kidding? We had a little saying amongst those I ran with in college "What are you taking that they don't offer next semester?" Not that we intentionally screwed up in classes but college has a myriad of distractions and even moreso for an athlete...I hope he gets in under control but some slack is due here. I also won't knock him on being where there was alcohol....tailgating on Saturday took my "high and mighty" priveleges away.

Big trouble for the case against Bryant

Here's the real question. When was that last time you went to a hotel, called for assistance with the tv, and got into bed with the woman who showed up...all within the span of an hour? -

"she has sex with a star and then cries rape. I hate the Lakers but this isn't basketball, this is basic human emotion and they are dealing with this guy's life here." Stebo, I'm gonna hope you're right on this one...because I absolutely HATE it when we are so quick to condemn the victim because we don't want to believe our celebrities are fallable. From the moment this news broke the consensus has been "Kobe would never do something like that, he seems so nice" or "A guy like Kobe would never have to rape a woman." What about the flip side? What about the fact that celebrities have an overgrown sense of entitlement? What about the fact that we coddle our athletes and other celebs because we're so star struck? Again, I hope the man is innocent...but I can't stand to see us play judge, jury and executioner...against the victim!

I can tell you pretty much what the Mavs are thinking and that they are wrong in thinking this. They're thinking "hey, we have scoring so let's get some guys who aren't afraid to bang a little and play a bit of defense." Neither Marshall nor Fizer are amazing rebounders or defenders really. Either is pretty much Eduardo Najera with a little more scoring and a little less hustle. What they need is a b ig man, a real honest to goodness, no three pointer shooting, big man. This doesn't do that.

I"ll take Syracuse. Too much athleticism and, forgive the tactlessness, they play a "black" style of ball as opposed to the Kansas boys. Fundamentals will only win you games if the guy you're guarding doesn't have the ability to jump out of the gym or break your ankles.

Carmelo Anthony showed that for all the hype TJ Ford gets, the player who is more ready for the league wears the non-burnt type of orange.

Happy B-day! I"m short of birthday gifts but I hope the football suffices. If it doesn't shoot me an email and we'll work something out.

Thinking ahead to hosting the conf tourney..
emmitt01 replied to UNT96's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I don''t know if I'm just suggesting something that is already happening but has the tournament ever been pitched as an "event" and not just several teams in a tournament? What I mean is, realizing that Dentonites would only really care about NT (and that's a stretch given past attendance numbers) has anyone ever put together a package deal for all of the games so that basketball afficionados (sp?) could watch it all from start to finish and follow the progression of all of the teams? I know that I could care less about La-La unless they're playing NT but I might pay one lump sum to watch all of the tournament games and become interested by virtue of seeing it all play out. -
Perhaps coach Slinker is thinking along the lines of "shooters can go cold, but inside scoring is high percentage and you're bound to get fouled." Just the same, I used to love how players like NIcole Thomas, Heather Trout and even Rosalyn Reades to a degree could just blow a game open from the arc.

Sorry, should have been on the football board.

For those who have already ordered the DVD, what address did you send it to? I've looked all over the website and can't find one. I may just hand my order form to RV in person.

A lot of these things have been said already but here is what I observed. *Western Kentucky had no fear of our perimeter defense. This was evident when we trimmed the lead down to six (it had been at or around 13 for most of the night) and they come straight down the court and pull up for three...in transition! If they had any fear of us legitimately stopping their shooters they would have slowed the tempo w/ the momentum seemingly in our favor. They didn't. Why? Because that shot, even if they had missed, would be there aaaaalllllll night. *We play a perimeter passing style offense. I can't count the number of times I saw us set screens just to get somebody open to take a pass at the top of the arc or somewhere above it. Then what did we do? Pass the ball around the arc some more. Chris Davis had 30 points last night for one reason...he went to the line. Against a better team how do you expect to get points unless you attack them? CD was the only one I saw doing this (and Rogers on occasion). *We are a donut style team...their's nothing in the middle. Boyden took whomever he wanted, whenever he wanted to the rack. And if they missed they had the rebound. The offensive board, the defensive board, the chairman of the board, the chalkboard, the shuffleboard, all the boards. *We don't think out there. I counted at least 4 balls that were thrown to the peanut vendor (I know we don't have them at the pit but work with me) because of miscommunication on passes. This team is more than a good recruiting class or a healthy squad away from being competitive night in and night out. They need an attitude change. They looked, played and seemed to think "soft."

Greenbackers, As it stands now we have but 3 volunteers for the phonathon on Saturday. There are a great many people who have put a great deal of effort and sacrifice into making sure the phone banks will be available. I know that I personally have touched base with 5 different people just to be sure that someone will be available to open up the doors to us. Mandy McKinley with the Mean Green Club called me today to make sure there was nothing else we needed and to express the athletic department's immense thanks for what we have been doing and are trying to do. If there is any way, ANY WAY AT ALL, that you can be there Saturday please let it be known. It's a four hour sacrifice for what could be 1,000 new fans and their parents. Otherwise, I'm gonna start grabbing people off of the streets and offering them sandwiches for their time. Also, I am going to visit Ms. McKinley on Thursday to look at the script and possibly make a suggestion or two.

But wouldn't you join a band, any band, even a polka band, rather than play for SMU?

And don't forget about Jermaine Green. He could be a scoring threat as well. I think it would be a nice 1,2,3 punch for Johnny J and Co this upcoming season.
