Cavalcade of Whimsey-Wish list for All 119 teams
emmitt01 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Pretty funny, especially the La Tech and aTm ones. -
Southlake Carroll beat Katy in the state final 34-20. I wanted Katy to win. On the sunnier side of things though Texas (#7) lost the battle of the "UT's" to Tennessee in a big way in Austin.

Actually I hit on the girl next door in a very polite and chivalrous manner well within earshot of the blonde goddess so as to exhibit what a nice guy I am. Then, after I have the girl next door's number, I come back the next week and work on the blonde. But that's just me.

Vince Young whines about the Hesiman Trophy
emmitt01 replied to Got5onIt's topic in Mean Green Football
youre right USC dosent play in the Big 12. they play in the Pac 10 which is only 1 smidgen better than the big EAST. or maybe a scotch I am not certain. USC hasnt played a good team yet this year. Notre Dame is the only thing close and they only played 3 winning teams. they lost to two of them. I am not calling a blow out (which some of you so kindly remind me that I did last year), but UT will win this game. ← -
Just how upset could we possibly be? We've already seen 65-0.

Vince Young whines about the Hesiman Trophy

Two things. 1)35 straight victories. That's impressive no matter who you are. Every week for at least the last two years USC has been given the other team's best shot...and they won. Maybe LSU would have beaten them, maybe they would have lost to Auburn last year....as the UT fans are ooooohhhh so fond of saying "they can only play the teams on their schedule." They took Oklahoma (hyped by many to be among the 'best ever') out behind the woodshed last year. They beat Michigan the year prior (You should remember Michigan; they're the team Texas beat in the Rose Bowl last year and got miles and miles of mileage out of it). They went into South Bend this year and won what may be one of the best college games ever played. They beat a schedule of teams ranked more highly than that of the horns. And, oh yeah, they have 35 straight victories. No matter how you spin it that is DOMINANCE. 2)If you want to see overhyped look no further than your adopted school (if only for Jan 4th) UT. They beat Ohio State, but so did Penn State. They beat Texas Tech, but so did Oklahoma State. Oklahoma State! Yes, 4-7 Oklahoma State. Speaking of Oklahoma State their running back Mike Hamilton had 3 carries for 194 yards against the 'mighty' horns. Wonder what Reggie Bush will do? Their other wins over a ranked team? Two over the stellar Colorado Buffaloes....the same Buffs who just fired their coach for the embarrasment that was the 2005 season after not 1, not 1, but 3 embarrassing losses to end the season. And what of their intra-state rival Texas A&M? They gave Texas all that they could handle WITHOUT Reggie McNeal. To put it plainly, they are in Pasadena this year by virtue of a very weak Big 12. USC doesn't play in the Big XII and it will show BIG TIME on January 4. -
Vince Young whines about the Hesiman Trophy
emmitt01 replied to Got5onIt's topic in Mean Green Football
The real reason Bush won the Heisman is that Vince Young is a once in a decade athlete. Reggie Bush is a once in a generation athlete. Vince Young will probably be a decent NFL quarterback. Reggie Bush will be a stellar running back, kick returner, punt returner, possibly wide receiver. They're not in the same class...no matter how pretty the picture of a cow on the side of Vince Young's helmet. -

"I'd like to congratulate Reggie Bush for winning the Heisman. It's nice to see a Bush with an actual approval rating win something for a change." Best part of the article. -
“I was real impressed with the facilities at UNT" And another excuse officially bites the dust.
-
I feel good about both of these signings, especially if Loren can play corner at all. From what I'm reading in the MGR the tight end signing may be the bigger news of the two though.

This may turn out to be a great sports day after all. The horns get their asses handed to them on the court and later on, if America's sports writers have a clue, Reggie Bush will win the Heisman instead of Vince Young.

You do all know what this is don't you? Anytime an AD or a football team owner comes out and gives the "vote of confidence" to a head coach it is the death knell for that coach. "Vote of confidence" translates to "produce or else."
-
I know that I talked with several of you about going down and supporting the belt in this year's NO Bowl. Is that still on? I took that Monday night off so that I could make the trip. Who is interested? Med? Pierow? Bueller?

I would try Voertman's. And if you really want to get him something special you can also pick up there a SMURF BLUE NORTH TEXAS T-SHIRT!
-
No, that was me.

Tulsa is playing for the CUSA championship so we may have lost to an eventual conference champion in this case. This is in NO WAY my way of saying I am satisfied with where we stand right now as a program but it removes a little of the salt from the wound.
-
That doesn't link to the recruiting page.

"AK-47! When you absolutely, positively got to kill every muthaf&^%er in the room....accept no substitutes!!"
-
Just got the AR-15 so now, along with the 9mm, the .380 and the mossberg pump I can say that I am ready for battle with Dallas' thugs.
-
My reply is none of the above. I will be at work. I do, though, think that if people were honest they would answer with "watching college football" or "whining on the board." We don't get the attendance support for basketball that we should...then we complain about CUSA not taking us seriously and being viewed as a second rate athletic department.
-
No change, not incremental or drastic, will occur until we set a goal and a big one at that. If we stop and pat ourselves on the back every time we do something that's not horrible as bad as it used to be then we'll never get where we want to go. All I'm saying is...where is the vision?
-
Exactly what I was talking about. For some of us the sky isn't the limit, the limit is the sky. Why can't we go toe to toe with UT and OU? Oh yeah, it's because we've already accepted it as fact and now we're bound by our own expectations. When I took over as President of Talons people told me "you'll never get people to wear North Texas stuff instead of UT, OU, aTm, Tech, etc because that's where they want to be." Funny thing is, I remember mailing a thousand Longhorn, Aggie, Red Raider, Baylor Bear, Miami Hurricane, etc. t-shirts to the salvation army in each school's respective home town because somebody gave the students a chance to trade in their old t-shirts, and with it their old expectations, for one from the school they attend. When RV put the plans for the athletic center to the public you could almost hear the snickering from across the state in unison. Now it sits over their as the beginning to what I believe will be launching pad for where we are headed. Folks, anybody who has ever played sports or been in a competitive field can tell you that the first AND last step in really beating someone is making them believe they don't belong on the same field as you. As long as we accept that we are always gonna be second class we will be.

I'll put full faith and credit in the Dickey plan the day he personally comes out and says "this season is on me. This season was an embarrasment to myself, my team and this fine university. We don't do things this way around here anymore, the days of the 2 or 3 win season have passed us by. We make it out mission to go out and win every game we schedule and we won't be satisfied until we do exactly that. I'm sorry." Instead we get "we'll be lucky to stay close to this team" prior to some games and "I just think it was the 'little things' this season, I'm going to evaluate the program" after an abysmal season like this one. The head coach is the alpha and omega of where the buck stops...show me you believe it DD! The first step in walking the walk, especially for a school in our position, is the talk the talk publicly and emphatically. Southern Miss has the slogan "anyone, anywhere, anytime" not because they have mulltiple national titles to back up their bravado but because they believe in their heart of hearts that everyone puts their pants on one leg at a time and nobody is worthy of cowering to. Where is our chest thumping? When will we stop believing as an institution that we haven't lost out to so called big-time institutions before we even get started? That's what I want. I want a school where our football team takes on a motto like "come get some" towards EVERYBODY, where our student spirit organization is revolutionary in their ideas to get students off their asses and fired up about their alma mater (Talons was that once, I know), where our fans don't give a rat's ass who is coming to Fouts or the Super Pit (or the softball diamond, etc) because North Texas is lining up on one side of the ball and that makes attending a necessity!!!! Am I dreaming of some unreachable utopia? I think we need to find out if the powers that be around here think so...cuz if they do the door works both ways.
