Where to begin with this? We WILL get better recruits because of the athletic center. If you honestly think the true effect of the AC has been seen you are fooling yourself. And, no, I don't really think we did get better recruits when the AC was a "blip." Have you seen yet what Charley Brown can do? Ajani Banks? Any of the "speed" guys we brought in? No, you haven't so judging this last recruiting class today is foolhardy. Do you honestly think that having a full recruiting season with the AC sitting across the highway won't help? Another mistake that I think you and many others make is comparing us to other "mid-majors." I love UNT heart and soul. I will not, though, make the assumption that we are on the level of a Southern Miss or Memphis...yet. Across the board, yes across the board, they are our superior right now. Not only do they perform better on the field (which is all many seem to point to and assume is an independent variable) they are our superior in facilities, FAN SUPPORT, monetary means, winning tradition, national prestige, and conference affiliation. Will we get there? I truly believe we will. Just please, for the love of God, when you bash coach Dickey and the play of this team keep in perspective where we have been when you talk about where we should be going. Name for me the North Texas coach post-Hayden Fry who has put us on the national radar. (Hint: The guy's name is Dickey) Is this a "I love Dickey" comment? Nope, I think he's unimaginative too. It's just pointing out that way back in ancient history...you know 5 years ago...what we are seeing this year would be par for the course. And we have "heighened expectations?" Who brought us to where we expect more? Could it be that same Dickey guy? I'll be the first to stand in line and throw stones and DD and Ramon "asleep at the wheel" Flanigan...but I won't be a hypocrit about it.

There was no pass interference on that play. Nwigwe pushed off to catch that ball just as much as the La Tech defender pushed off of one of our players to get their first interception. I know that whining about officiating is sad but there were several times when I would turn to other fans in disgust and hear "you're not gonna get that call AT La Tech." I didn't realize it was 30-14 at that point but I do believe we would have scored there.

This post brings up two very interesting points: 1)You're dead on when you say that the players are ripped week in and week out...it's a message board. We do say things like "Meager isn't any good" or "Our O-Line can't block to save their lives." I think all of us need to realize that no player goes to practice during the week and says "You know what guys, I hope on Saturday we get beat by 50" or "If we could just commit enough penalties we could completely negate any postives we might accomplish." These are young men who work their asses off. 2)Getting ripped on a message board is no reason to pout like a petulant child. People who are fans of this team spend hundreds of dollars in gas, food, tickets, MGC dues, etc. to try to be at every game possible...home and away...to show that we're behind this team. I wonder what kind of men these players are if comments on a message board can cause them this much damage. At a school like NT it is especially important to acknowledge those that make this extra effort.

I'll take Al Queda and the points.

Not only did I have to watch our team get dismantled last night I think I suffered the lowest of lows at halftime. Prepare yourself for this cuz it illustrates where we stand: A Player From ULM Talked Smack To Me As I Went Outside The Stadium That's right folks, a guy who plays for ULM said to me "It don't look good for when you play ULM" Then, he and several other ULM players who had come to watch the game during their bye week started screaming out their respective numbers and telling us to "watch out for them." What universe is this?
-
That is an issue that starts and ends at the top. It is in the hands of the coaching staff to instill in these players that they don't play simply for themselves...they play for this school, the alumni AND themselves. A coach that presses that point leads to players who make it their mission to acknowledge the efforts we make.

Yeah, that's way worse than my idea. How 'bout a picture of a football field and the slogan "They can't have this land either!" No?

Are you suggesting that a student at that bastion of academic excellence La-Monroe wouldn't be able to count? For shame. Guess they won't make him a distinguished alumus then.

Send me a pm with a phone number and the wife and I will meet you for Dinner and the bar scene on Friday

1)Cozy stadium with decent to good site lines- You can find one of those in Dallas or Ft. Worth 2)Multi-million dollar athletic endowment- you can find that at several Texas schools 3)History of winning 4)Prestige among high school students Other than that stuff, nothing.

There's a very good reason they have questions like that on there Zeke. It is so that when they hire whomever it is that they are going to hire they can issue a release that says "The members of the North Texas family told us how important it was to have a honest, trusted, visionary, ________(fill in the blank) leader and we believe we've found one in Mr. Yes Man." This way you can't come back and say you weren't asked your opinion while at the same time they don't have to give you any real substance to weigh in on. Your "comments" will magically not be heeded though they'll use the "poll" to validate their selection.

They're reporting that Wilma is a 5 right now on CNN and that it could hit Florida as a 3 or 4.

Then it must be a version of the word only used by the very, very, very, smart. It's not listed as a proper word on dictionary.com, merriam webster's online dictionary or any other online dictionary source. In fact, there is a site which claims to search 780 online dictionaries simultaneously and it returns this: http://www.onelook.com/?loc=pub&w=alumus

No, they didn't. Even the definition you provide includes the "n". Look up the word "alumus", it doesn't exist.

My "additional qualifications": 1)Personal belief in the importance of inter-collegiate athletics as a major contributor to student satisfaction and alumni involvement. 2)Ability to differ in opinion with the university chancellor and to stand his/her ground on issues. And, my "message to the selection committee": It cannot be emphasized enough how important this Presidential selection is. North Texas is at the brink of taking unprecedented strides both academically and in terms of nationwide recognition due to the steps taken by Dr. Pohl. Imperative in taking these steps is an understanding of the role that athletics can play in getting the university's name and mission out to the general public. Afterall, every nationally televised North Texas athletic event is a opportunity to disseminate information about North Texas as an institution. Only when ALL portions of the university are emphasized can any portion of the university succeed to the fullest.

Good ol' Junior Miller...the only guy I'd like to personally take an NT degree away from.

We're not too far ahead of CUSA though. We have three teams on the list while they have two. And how's this for depressing? SMU isn't on the list but they are the punchline for Rice's entry:

Lera and I will be leaving for Louisiana Friday afternoon and staying overnight in Shreveport. Anybody else going down early? I'd even be willing to discuss how much you don't like DD if we had some other Mean Green fans around.

I wonder, should OU fans be expecting more out of their coach right now? Should Stoops be grilled for going with the "same ol' gameplan" when he too has a quarterback who's just not quite getting it? They got rolled by UT who is the nation's #2 team...but they also got shut down by TCU and beaten by UCLA, all with the talent and resources at OU's disposal. That's not even mentioning the COMBINED 25 yards that OU and Kansas had between them midway through the second quarter on Saturday. And another thing...did DD lay the ball on the turf inside the 10 on Saturday or was that Jamario? Did he turn the ball over 5 times against Troy or was that the players? -
We finished with 226 yards total! That would make me feel REALLY bad if it weren't for this from the La Tech inside slant concerning their last game against Nevada: "La. Tech finished with 229 yards of total offense." What a shootout we have in store.

Ethan Szatmary is an idiot, make no mistake, but his analysis is spot on. This is why the LSU game will be in the 80 point range. You don't beat a team that is your superior up and down the line by trying to grind the clock...you won't get the first downs needed and all you'll do is put their offense back on the field. Besides, like LSU, Southlake Carroll recruits on a national level so you've got to try to counteract that with some gusto in your play calling.

Funny thing is USC hears a variation on this same theme every week. "They'll lose to______" It just never happens. Oh, and UT sucks.
-
He was the guy who jumped up and caught a Scott Hall pass WHILE RUSHING THE PASSER and returned it for a touchdown in the NO Bowl last year. Well, he plays for Atlanta now and he got through and blocked a field goal which someone returned for a touchdown...decisive score in their game. My point? That USM defense we lost to last year was not bad.

FIU only lost to K-state by 14... I know, I know...Darrell Dickey sabotaged the Wildcats

If USC and either Va Tech or FSU win out there is no way UT makes the national title game. The strength of the ACC trumps that of the Big XII this year. ACC: 3 teams in the top 10 and one more in the top 25 Big XII: 1 team in the top ten and two others who are in the top 25
