Well, what was supposed to be an announcement for a new chapter in North Texas history seems to be a funeral announcement for any great expectations. If the “breaking news” sprinkled throughout this thread is true… 1) Mac took all the staff but Hodge and the kids who have to wipe up the sweat with him (can we PLEASE get them a proper mop?) 2) TP is already picking out his Lubbock apartment from the Mission Tortilla NIL deal he got 3) No other players could/wanted to make it to a NIT Championship celebration because they left all NT related clothing on the plane when they returned to Denton…and they figure it would be rude to wear their new school’s gear 4) If we had only shown up in greater numbers at the Pit, we’d be capable of celebrating things on a D1 level

Two things. 1) Nobody will take this program seriously until this program takes itself seriously. Winning the NIT may not be winning the NCAA Tournament (or even the same accomplishment that it once was) but it is damn sure the pinnacle of where this program has been. If we celebrate it on a Wednesday in the middle of a work day, it communicates clearly that it is no big deal. It certainly doesn’t say “this is worth taking note of.” 2) Which one is it? Are we a program that needs to grow the fanbase and will use PERFECT opportunities like the celebration of a NIT title to “shake hands” and do so…or are we taking the tried and true North Texas approach? The sit back and wait for people to come to us strategy has never worked since the days of “if you’re not a member of the Mean Green club, it’s because I haven’t called you or you haven’t called me”

As long as nobody from the athletic department has to come in on a Saturday. Gotta have priorities.

This is precisely our problem. People should have heard of North Texas, and that should be the draw. Any program that ties attendance to the visiting team is already doomed to failure.

I’m in favor of Texas State, or how about Texas aTm Commerce, for a men’s and women’s double-header.
