Which is precisely why I snicker when I hear all of this “The remaining PAC teams will just raid the AAC and MWC” talk. So now AAC and MWC teams want to add west coast travel to their non-revenue sports just to be left out in the cold anyway?
-
And how do Cal, Oregon State, and Washington State fund their programs on a television deal that won’t be anywhere close to what they are accustomed to? ESPN isn’t paying a lot to televise the four least desirable PAC teams and a bunch of MWC teams (if they were willing to pay a premium for MWC content, they’d be doing it already). And how likely are MWC schools to jump at what won’t be traditional PAC level money knowing any of the traditional PAC schools will bolt the second a real P5 (or is it P3 now?) offer comes?

Those that expect the remaining 4 PAC teams to just grab MWC and AAC teams and soldier on, keep a few things in mind. 1) The PAC owes Comcast a LOT of money 2) MWC teams have a substantial buyout to leave that conference, and… 3) Teams in the PAC won’t be getting near the money they used to get (that affects offsetting #2) 4) Cal, Stanford, Washington State and Oregon State are used to operating on a budget that included $30M in television rights payouts (see #3 again)

Let’s be real, you can talk television deals and money all you want, but this is how it truly went down. George Kliavkof: “We have an underwhelming streaming offer from Apple TV and we’ll struggle to make the money the Big12 and Big10 make…and won’t even approach SEC money. Is everyone still with me??!” Pac12 Teams: George Kliavkof: “Great! Now we can move forward with expansion…first on the list is SMU…” Pac12 Teams:

So, because Alabama has chosen to play Chattanooga and Mercer in the next two years, what aspersions should we cast their way? They have, after all, "chosen to play" those programs.
-
Setting the bar pretty low there. If we played The University of Cairo, they would bring more fans than SMU.

https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/38134021/big-ten-set-send-invites-oregon-washington-sources-say Seems pretty official now. I don’t see how Arizona, Arizona State or Utah in good conscience stay in what they know is a house on fire 🔥 I’m sorry, if I’m a major donor of any of the remaining PAC schools and you tell me your response to losing USC, UCLA, Colorado, Oregon and Washington is….wait for it…”Dallas’ Team” I am not impressed

Now, now...don't try to get TOO high and mighty and claim all the credit. The Big 10 is going to help with the burial. -

Can I just take a moment to say "I wish the athletic department would do something to add to the pre-game atmosphere" while simultaneously saying "but here's why I'm going to nitpick any effort they put forth"? I want to maintain some consistency around here.- 14 replies

I think a program like North Texas should do ANYTHING to make purchasing tickets easier. I will search the internet (including this message board), subscribe to email blasts, and talk to friends to find out when/where I can watch North Texas…but I’m already invested in this program. We need to reach the “lived in/around Denton for years but never stepped foot in DATCU” casual fans who might make an impulse buy. Hell, put wing zone tickets next to the chap-stick and candy as people are checking out at Kroger.

You're talkiing about the Oregon State of last year. I believe Harry is talking about the Oregon State of tomorrow. Is Oregon State #17 when they're no longer boasting wins over Oregon, Cal, and Arizona State (or close losses to USC)? What are they ranked when their big wins are against SDSU and SMU?? -

I think it is fitting that a teacher’s credit union sponsors the stadium for a university that was started as a teacher’s college (and still is top tier in educating teachers).- 97 replies
